Weird D750 problem

My D750 is having a fit in Aperture Priority mode and I have no idea how to fix it.

I shoot Aperture Priority about 90% of the time with a minimum shutter speed of 1/125 and maximum ISO set 12,800.

For some reason it's defaulting a crazy fast shutter speed of 1/4000 (even in low light) and maxing out my ISO up to 12,800. Rather than balancing them both out.

Any ideas?

What are your ISO settings?

If it's AUTO, but 12800 set, it won't actually go below 12800.
 
My thoughts are the same as above, check you ISO setting. In auto ISO it will go from your current ISO setting to the Max setting, it doesn't default to 100.

So you're saying that if you set max ISO to 12800 in Auto but then physically dial in ISO lo it defaults to 100 rather than staying at Lo? I never knew that (y)

Yeah, if you have Max 12800, Auto, ISO 2000 it'll only do 2000 - 12800.

But if you have Max 12800, Auto, ISO Lo0.5 then it does 100 - 12800.
 
ISO Sensitivity Settings: If

  • ISO sensitivity is set to 100, and
  • ISO sensitivity auto control is set to ON, and
  • Maximum sensitivity is set to 12800, and
  • Minimum shutter speed is set to 1/125

Then it should work as you want it to.

Correct.

The problem is probably that the ISO is set too high as a starting point. Realised that early on when I got mine, hence easier to make sure you have the full range by setting as I mentioned above under a user preference.

Wonder why it goes from 100-12800 rather than lo-12800 then? Weird :lol: Mine's just usually set to 100 and then Auto ISO ramps it up if it needs to, don't think I've ever needed lo tbh.

Most of your stuff doesn't look like it was tripod mounted Toby?? You must have VERY steady hands [emoji15]

As I said, I set it at 100 ISO and Auto ISO then ramps it up ;) :p
 
So, just to clarify you set auto ISO in Lo and it'll default to ISO100 where it needs to? But which one.... Lo1, Lo7, Lo3?

In fact as an aside what's the difference between Lo1, Lo3, Lo7?

any of them.

1/3 stop, 2/3, full stop. I believe.

Actually I may have misread. It won't actually use the Lo settings at all. It'll just start at 100 instead for some reason.

But if you set it higher than 100, then auto will start there.

Makes no sense but there you go!

Yes, I gathered that bit, strange isn't it. I had my auto ISO set to 200-12,800 but may as well use 100 as it's there to use!

Good thing is you can use the same setting on the Df using the dial, so set auto ISO then set dial to 100 and it works same way as D750.

That extra stop can be needed on sunny days if you want to shoot wide as poss. Remember how many ppl were miffed at the fastest shutter speed of the 750 when it was launched?
