Weird 5D MK2 shenanigans

Cheaper to get a new one from a shop! very strange!

thats probably the 2 i was looking at yesterday for someone on here
there was a thread started regarding refurb models from canon outlet
i linked that page and warned the poster to be aware of bidding as a lot of models go for more than the cost new, and bingo some Muppet pays way over the odds

Do you think its some sort of shill bidding though? there were cases of it in the past on the outlet.

lot of 100% bid activity going on there

I would never buy from them. Ever!

Any decent sought after item always goes for more than they are available for a brand new item. And whoever is bidding these high prices never seems to buy. Check their feedback a few weeks later, there is never any left from the Canon outlet. Bunch of crooks IMO.

They were dead cheap when they 1st started! (think it was with a different user name)

I bought my 5dii from them maybe 18 months ago. Got a great price, a good £250 odd below the best new price at the time. It was during a phase when a whole batch of 5diis came through, one ending every day. I just put in low, almost silly bids on each near the end ... most failed, but then I bagged one. All fine with the camera that arrived. Happy customer, although a lot of the auctions do tend to edge towards the high side.

With a bit of patience and luck it can be worth while.

Is this outfit Canon UK, affiliated to them, or have they just got permission to use their branding/logo in return for buying their returns/repairs off them??

makes you wonder
also wonder if the people who pay over the odds are affiliated with this planet

If I remember correctly my cam came with a 1year warranty from Canon, so there must be some sort of affiliation and quality control, but I can't say for certain.

They (canon_uk1 Ebay seller) seem to be getting quite a few negative feedback comments now, 41 negative and 323 positive in last month isn't that good, as 12 month total is 154 negative - almost a third of the negative responses have been in the last month??

I did think about buying from them, but the prices don't seem any cheaper now, and with the high level of negative feedback, I'll be buying elsewhere now.

In an earlier thread about the same outfit I read that if you do manage to bag a real bargain surprise surprise they send you an email to say the item is not available!!.

That wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't mean there's not any good deals though, although it sounds like things have gone downhill now.

I bought a 5D2 from them a couple of months ago, loads of problems, so returned and took ages and lots of phone calls (to Ireland) but nothing happened till I opened a paypal dispute.
In the end I got a refund but it was a tough battle.

I will never buy from them!!!

And they would then just relist it and give someone else a load of problems no doubt.

Hmmmm ... Before I read this thread I'd have definitely considered buying from them again.

Not anymore.

Thanks for the heads up.

I suspect what they will do is contact poor old a***k and say... "Good News, the winner backed out, you can have it for just £1,855.00 - lucky you!"

This is one of the reasons eBay is going down the drain, that and their appalling seller support, which for once looks like it may be justified.

You could be right

Reported to ebay...

Thanks for reporting them but, I doubt egay will do anything about it. They earn so much from these stores in fees that they would be shooting themselves in the foot to do anything about it. If it was a private seller I'm sure it would be a different story though.

I just stay away from canon outlet & try to warn others when I can.

I don't blame Canon for bidding up their items a bit, after all, it's very important they don't de-value the camera or annoy all existing owners by selling them for hundreds less than store or 2nd hand prices. But that is totally different to bidding up the item to inflated over-the-odds prices to make more money (tut tut).

At the end of the day though, it's a free market, and an item is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, so if people pay the higher prices then so be it, I just won't bother shopping there because I know I won't get a good deal.
