That's a really good Blue Tit picture Yv  If it had been mine, I would have got just the head in the corner or the wing tip or the tail

Thanks again guys for the replies. The tit shot didn't really require much skill, just lots of patience and practice and a bit of planning, high iso [LIGHT, I NEED light] and don't worry, I got loads of shots that were just wing tips, or so far oof you would struggle to recognise it as a bird at all

Been a funny old week, with the snow and kids being off school, and karate back in real earnest [tournamnet yesterday, plenty of pots brought home with our squad], and what have you.

However, the studio lights arrived and like a kid at christmas I wasted no time in rifling through the various boxes and bags to see what goodies were in there. I gave them a brief try out in a spare free hour with the dogs, but as I will admit my dogs aren't what you might call perfectly trained, sit/stay was proving all too much for their tiny terrier brains to be really successful. However today I finally managed to get the teenager away from snowballs, school work, karate and msn for half an hour to play model.

There is a thread in the portrait section containing several shots and asking for advice. This is not straight forward, but huge amounts of fun learning how to use these lights, can't wait to get them out again armed with the good teachings of the Daves [diddy and M]. I saved this shot for this diary thread, my mad but adorable daughter. When I couldnt get the lights adjusted correctly to get that white 'venture' background because of space limitations, I just made her lie on the floor :D

What a great shot Yvonne, she looks relaxed and very natural. Fantastic use of lighting too. And I love the slogan on the T shirt

Well done. I think taking your own teenagers is the hardest! She looks totally chilled and you've caught a lovely expression, very relaxed. I think this is a bit gentler than the typical 'Venture' look and all the better for that.:clap:

Glad to hear you're enjoying your lights. :)

Hi Guys, sorry I have missed a couple of weeks, too much of a mad rush with holidays, karate tournaments and what have you. So, to get back on track I have decided to post a pic now for last sunday. Rather than a specific pic on a theme, I have gone for one that shows something of what I was doing on Sunday gone [22nd].

We were meant to be in Martinique, but there is trouble there atm due to the islanders feeling the French government are doing nothing to help them during the current financial crisis, whilst pouring money into mainland France, so our ships captain rightly decided to avoid Martinique and instead took us to St Vincent. The Caribbean is still quite old fashioned and many people are quite religious - church attendance is high and several Christian religions flourish as well as minorities of other religions. Therefore, Sundays are what Sundays used to be here, a day of rest for most people. Shops and bars are closed, especially during the day and the towns are quiet - quite refreshing really. So, we wondered round the Town of Kingstown for a little while, then headed up to Fort Charlotte. A small place but still very much intact, complete with cannons, one of many forts on the coastlines of all the islands we stopped at. The views were very good, but a strong breeze whipping up the spray out at sea meant we couldnt quite see the Grenadines as apparently you can on a good day, but still a good vantage point.

The ship moored in the bay was our home for the week but its fair to say that with tourism being a huge amount of the income on the islands, every Island we visited made us feel very much at home, even if they couldnt quite reproduce the cold wet rain or snow of recent weeks here in blighty

So, to get things back on track, I give you Kingstown, St Vincent and some sunshine - it was only about 29 degrees C :D

Lovely colours, wonderful scene...

but what is that odd looking sky :D it's a very strange colour, not the normal grey at all :D..

Hi Yv, and welcome back from your holidays. That's a great landscape shot and I love the way you've captured the curve of the bay, it really draws your eye through :clap:

And I'm possibly the only one genuinely not jealous :D
