I'm going out on mates boat this weekend as its meant to be sunny with the camera to get some Wake boarding pics.
Was going to pre save some setting in my 7D but just wondered what people would recommend, ill be using a 70-200 f4 and after nice crisp close up shots.

Hi,

I have taken Kite Surfing pics on a few occasions and have tweaked my settings to get more keepers.

I tend to use AI Servo for focusing, High speed continous and only the centre focusing point (you can crop later to improve, but prevents the camera tending to focus on waves, splashes, ropes etc).

Depending on light I'd aim for staying at f4, f5.6 to get plenty light in and blur backgrounds. Shutter speed about 640 ?? check a few for sharpness and see if you need to go up from there (unless of course you are going for panning shots). Hopefully you'll have decent light and won't need to push the ISO up too far. Remember to check the histogram after a few, you may need to dial in some exposure compensation depending on lighting.

Cheers,

Kenny

Thanks for the advice I'm looking forward to have a play at something different.

Agree with the above I might be tempted to go a bit faster even around 1000/1250 etc but see what they look like. You should be alright for light during the day. Great sport to shoot though.
