Week 23 Broken added

Thanks Dawn, found this pump on a farm this afternoon, whilst driving round looking for some rapeseed fields, flash of inspiration for object. The horizontals do look a bit odd, all the ground is un-even & the garage behind was leaning a bit. Might try some different effects to add a bit more ageing

 and an absolute treasure of a find ;)

Don't know if this adds "oomph" or if it just looks noisey, certainley looks older

Hiya Andy

SPOT ON with your 2nd edit! Wow that is exactly what I had in mind for the photo ..... BRILLIANT

BTW the colour version don't work for me ....

But then I ain't bothered by it, because I have the 2nd edit to look at :D

ACE!!!!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Is it wrong or is it art?

Grimgraffiti-1-1.jpg

Probably think it was wrong if it was on the wall of my house, but looked pretty cool on the side of an old warehouse in the middle of Bristol.

Had play with HDR & added a lighting effect in PSE

Hiya Andy,

That is soooo cooooool and just up my street (I love graffiti :D)

I would be interested to see your original pic before processing ,....... if you don't want to add it here, could you please PM it to me? I'd love to see what the original looked like.

Otherwise I think you have done well here (even though I don't think graffiti is wrong in the right places).

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Andy, I love what you have done to the image ..... it defo works for me ..... gives it a bit of a moody bar feel :D

Well done on a great job!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Love "Wrong". I too like graffiti if, as in this case, it's done well. The PP gives it more impact, brilliant! To me the HDR gives it a super hero comic type feel, so well done with that. I've yet to give the HDR a go, is it straightforward?

Thanks for the comments

Darren, I use photomatix 3 for my HDR effects, not really sure what I'm doing if I'm honest, usually load up 3 copies of the same image & have a play around. Quite like the effect on urban shots & seems to work well with the graffiti

Thanks for the info Andy. I don't have that software but cs5 has the capability I think, but probably a lot harder to figure out! Lol. I'll have a play in cs5 when I get chance.

The Boat Paradox
Imagine you build a wooden boat. As time goes on, you find that part of the boat needs to be repaired, and you replace it with another piece of wood. This process continues until each of the original parts has been replaced by another. Now the question: is this the same boat? If not, at what point did it become a different boat?

Hiya Andy

Great take on the theme and love the photo too.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi, Andy, there's sssooo much potential in these beached boats. Great photograph and what add the finishing touch is the small boat..

I don't usually edit posts but I had a try which helped be with my composition as well; I'll remove if you like.

I wonder if there's a list of answers to these paradoxes :thinking:

boat 2 not mine by andysheader, on Flickr

Hi Andy, great paradox. My wife and I had a similar conversation last night about cell's regenerating and the fact that we are no longer the same people that originally met. Apparently I took things too far when I said I preferred the original!
When i first looked at the shot I cropped it in my head the exact same way as Andy(posi) has cropped it. Not sure what Andy used to crop it and if he brightened the image intentionally or not but this to my eye has taken something away and I prefer the original exposure. The frame which you have used also enhances the image.

So to sum up for my preferrence, crop of the original with exposure and colours as they are and framed the same as the original shot. IMHO of course.

Week 17 Tropical, had a bit of a hectic week (moved house & all our stuff is now in storage), so went for an obvious "Tropical fish" had a bit of play with some effects in PSE, could be a re-shoot ;)

Yellowfish-crop_edited-border.jpg

Agree with the comments about week 16 needing a crop & it looks much better:thumbs:

WOW...POWER!!! I dont personally like the effect... never actually seen it before... but that said it makes for a WOW image! Almost out of this world look to it! Actually the more I look the more I think the effect is not my cup of tea and I shouldn't like it... but I actually do like it!

Well done... good work!

Thanks Mark, I know what you mean, I've been playing around with different images & kept coming back to this one, I quite like the fact it's a bit different.

So here's the last one of the 3

Tulips-2-1.jpg

Twisted Tulips.

Moving house has really thrown me & not so much time for photos. Just 1 week to catch up now

Just too much photoshop going on now for my tastes... but that said it is a fantastic image... from what seemed to start out as a good photo anyway!

Hiya Andy,

I seem to have missed some of your weeks, so I'll do a quick catch up:

Tropical: I quite like the colours in this one. Perhaps if the whole background was the same as I find the blue and black part on the upper left a bit distracting, but otherwise a good shot.

Power: Quite like the processing on this one and definitely fits the theme.

Promise: Lovely reflection in the water and like the big pink cloud (I love clouds). I may have cloned out the stray leaves bottom left and right corners.

Twisted: Not sure if the processing has worked here, the tulips look a bit like lollipops. I think the photo would be great left in its original form. But I can see why you applied it to suit the theme.

Well done on catching up, even though you have been very busy. Good luck in your new house.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Love the boat shot and the take on the theme - it reminds me of Only Fools and Horses Trigger and his broom sketch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbha4XclSMU

The cooling towers for Power are great. My only small issue is the shadow on the right-hand tower.

Twisted - nice PP work and great shot

Hi, Andy, nice one for catching up.

Overall, your photographs fit the theme but a little too processed (says me...:$)

First thing I said when I saw tropical was "WWWWOOOOOAAAHHHH", that's one vivid fish.

I quite like the background but may have cloned out the dark top left section.

Power, not sure about the processing, especially on the left. It's the bases that really shout power to me.

Promise has a painterly feel to it which i like and it's well framed. Was the colour in the clouds or was it 'emphasised' in pos? Nice reflections and I wouldn't have noticed the lower left and right leaves if Dawn hadn't mentioned them

Twisted, not for me, I'm afraid. I like that you're thinking differently but it looks a bit to artificial; that is, the tulips don't look real.

Cheers and looking forward to the rest of your 52...

Hiya Andy,

Love the photo for 'divide' it looks spot on to me and fits the theme well. Like the use of lead in and the good control in getting the blue, yet cloudy sky in the distance.

Cheers

Dawn :)

What a carp picture!
Sorry, I really couldn't resist that. As Neil has said the oof foliage on the left is slightly distracting and a few blown highlights on the lilly pads. But it's a very well framed shot and good detail for shooting through murky water. Great catch! or did he get away?

Hiya Andy,

Ooops I seem to have missed some weeks here, sorry.

Hidden: fits the theme well .... not only hidden in the murky water but also framed by the lily pads.

Bright: Gorgeous photo and love how you have maintained all the main colours. Agree about a slight crop on the left. Otherwise well done.

Rescue: Fantastic .... I really like this and the selective colouring works well for this shot ... and definitely right on theme.

Well done on all three.

Cheers

Dawn :)
