wee iPad

Surprisingly i'm in zone 1 but 2 weeks is fine with me. I'm near Dunfermline. I just had a panic moment and logged in to check I hadn't done something stupid like order the sim version. My husband was insisting that 32gb was plenty for me but i've ignored him and gone for the bigger version.

Actually, i'm a Perth & Kinross postcode so that may explain the 2 weeks. We're literally 1/2 mile from the regional border.

i'll quote this post but mainly aimed at others saying the iPhone5 is ridiculously priced (£600/32gb)..

isnt the S3 £499 sim free, then you have to buy a microSD (£30 for a 32gb class 10).

its not really a huge difference is it in the grand scheme of things?

Well luckily I did not say iPhone, even if I was talking about one;)

Thus my quote applies equally to other phones around this price.

I guess I'll know more when it changes from processing/ estimated. Plus we have problems with couriers not showing up when they are meant to as the single track road we live on is a pain for them. I'm sure Apple has been UPS in the past though and they are normally good with us.

In my opinion without apple we may not have any tablets or smart phones not at the same level of technology anyway apple were the first and the best hence why they command a price worthy of such a good products.

Could of been a different world without apple let's just hope now mr jobs has gone that apple can continue to make great products and push technology.

Just my opinion of corse

1+ for apple! :-D

That is a valid point i suppose

But then again, without Formula 1 there are a lot of car technologies that would never have existed, but an F1 car is out of most peoples budgets too

I spent some time using a nexus 7 tablet recently and I can see the attraction of the smaller form factor for certain things but I do think the ipad mini is perhaps a bit too expensive, for me, for what it is.

I think the Microsoft Surface looks the most interesting bit of tablet hardware, it's a shame that the overwhelming opinion from those that have used it is that the software and ecosystem is lacking, it too though, with the keyboard cover is expensive for what it is.... £100 too much really.

We have an ipad2 and as a piece of hardware it's wonderfully built, but I find iOS an increasingly maddening experience as time goes on.

Why can't people accept that people buy Apple products with their own money as they prefer the products over the competition?

I looked at the Android tablets before I bought my iPad 3 and they were utter garbage, so the extra price was more than worth it as it gave me the product I wanted.

The same goes for the iPhone 5.

My wife is after one already. She has a iPad 3 and will probably sell it for this. But she needs to know a few things I don't quite know myself.

Is it even HD?
Is it quad core?
Does it have 4g / LTE compatibility?

Ta

Why would she want to downgrade? Is it just a size issue?

*** The ipad as a device and iOS as an operating system is worse than an Asus Transformer running Honeycomb or Jellybean.****

However the iPad overall is a better device for one reason, the app store. The apps are either better or just don't exist outside of iOS, why are they only there? marketing

I have 2 ipads and 2 android tablets. I prefer the android tablets and I prefer the OS, but sadly I'm stuck with the oddities of iOS because the apps are better.

So to sum it up, the bits that apple have done are average, but their marketing has attracted people to the device who produce great apps.

The most bizarre comment in the thread! The Asus Transformer is nowhere near as good as the ipad 3. I really can't get on with Andriod tablets.

Because everybody knows that they've been brainwashed. Brainwashed to be prejudiced against a platform with minimal non-malware applications.

Not at all, I have an ipad3 but build my own computers.

I don't really understand what you're saying? I'm not sure about Malware on iOS apps, but there are certainly rouge phishing apps and apps loaded with viruses on Android, one of the many reasons I decided to stick with iOS.

Sorry! I'm not 100% but I think it was

She thinks the latest means greatest, obviously not though. A both had no idea how lacking the new one was.

Ah well, finally her purse stays shut!

It's not lacking per se, but it's built down to a lower price as per its market so won't have the iPad 3's bells and whistles (in particular, the retina screen).

Sorry Mike, I meant the above post was sarcasm...

Excellent, be sure and give us a review.

In a moment of madness last night, I cancelled my order and ordered the full size with retina display. Mine is due next Thursday.

Tempted to pop to the Apple store tomorrow and have a look at one and buy one if I like it!

Do people think it will be busy or not? I cant be bothered with long queues and crowded places

Do people think it will be busy or not?

Yes. It will be busy.

Go later in the day to have a look but take the chance that they will likely have sold out so you may not get on on release day.

Ah forget that then! I hate meadowhell enough as it is! Forgot about it being half term :(

Do places like Currys/Comet have them on release day? Theres a few big ones out the way that aren't usually that busy.

no they dont usually get the for a few weeks

even specialsit mac stores that aren't apple retail stores dont get stuff for a few weeks

at the end of the day for me it depends if its any good - i don't hate any particular manufacturer or system - as that's just silly (the same goes for the other extreme of fanboiism)

Ive currently got a go pad running ICS - which i bought from the classifieds here for £40 - its okay , and it does what i need but the touch screen is unreliable, the interface unintuitive, and the battery life poor.

Having looked at both the nexus and the fire it doesn't look like either would be much of an upgrade on the 'go' so i've not bothered with them. If the Ipad mini resolves these issues (which to be honest it probably does) then I'd buy it for £269. The only proviso is that I need to be able to host excel spread sheets on my tablet for budget meetings, so If the Ipad can't do that due to Apple vs Microsoft , I maybe forced to look elsewhere.

well that answers that then - i may well be getting a mini - when are they actually in the shops ?

I'll give it a few weeks for the hysteria to die down then

I can reserve and collect at my local currys today! :D

No queuing in Meadowhell for me! :D

Zero hysteria. I work on Hannover Sq which is right behind the big Apple store on Regent St. They use the Sq as the overflow/queue area and have crowd control barriers, portable toilets set up for the lengthy queues. Except today there's no queue and they've packed up already.........when the iPhone 5 was launched there were long queue's all day.

got mine now and its sweet. Really light and the perfect book reading and movie watiching size in bed

chuffed!

And they still don't have sim-free iPhone 5s!
