There is certainly enough of an overlap that you should not have to be asking "which lens"

You should know what a head shot is and how to light and shoot it, you should know how to pose and shoot a 3/4 and same for a full length. You should understand the priciples of lighting and how to pose a person in that light to best effect.

The only thing you don't have in fashion is the shots during the ceremony which you can't control but then, having done events you should know how to shoot that too.

In fact, with the fashion/events mix, you should really be able to teach us never mind ask what is always going to be perceived as a very basic question.

So that's perhaps why we are being a skeptical bunch.

Ali's got the whole thread summed up in one post

Yes I am stupid....

To be honest, I really did not think that asking the questions I did would conjure up the smart remark alley....negative and postive feedback I expected as in anything, but not the stupidity.

I also did not think I had to share my whole self behind photography in order to get a more repectable responses. I thought that this would be a place you can ask a question you have thought on or interests tips, and they would be answered.................... without the fluff......

This is just like a reality show! Always someone that has to add the fluff where it is not needed in the first place!

I can see you're defending yourself from a perceived attack here, but honestly, that is the biggest load of nonsense. Information relevant to the questions asked is not fluff...it's information.

Would the advice to someone with a studio who shoots people every day be the same as a rank amateur who's never shot people or used lights? No, of course not. Your original post put you firmly in category one...until you added the so called fluff.

Tch.

One question though, if you are already a professional photographer and you have all this experience why would you not know what lens to use at a wedding? The presence of a lady in a big white dress should hardly worry a professional fashion and events tog.

That's not quite adding up in my head, but having spent all day talking to wedding clients not a lot is right now!

If I want to inform myself of something I am entitled to....whether or not it makes sense for asking it or not.

I never stated that I am a pro, just that I have a studio which will tell you that I am not a hobbyist as some of you may think.

Regardelss of that, if I am approaching something I have not done before ..I will ask questions even something as a newbie question as to what lens would be reccommended to use or even to have one hand(would it be something I would need to rent as opposed to what I already have in my camera bag? As I do not have all the lenses in the book)

I feel ther is nothing wrong in asking especially a wedding being a big deal in all...DAMN RIGHT I AM GOING TO ASK QUESTIONS.

Also maybe I am wrong ...but I honestly think of a wedding day to be quite important as you hope that the majority of the shots you take would be one of the great ones..so I saw it as something that had me nervous so I wanted to ask the basic questions. To you all who have experience in this this may seem a silly question to ask, but maybe other newbies would not....perhaps I am the only one that does...who knows

I think I would be a real fool to just assume because I am experienced that I could head into shooting a wedding blind folded without having any experience in that domaine.

Fast lenses, main ones for me is 24 70 and 70-200. Some peeps like to use prime lenses.
16 35 has been handy in the past as have my 15mm fish eye for the odd novelty shot.
I use a FF camera.

just make out the bridezilla and groom are fashion models ,,

You are an American though aren't you?
The words and phrases you adopt as well as that shrill, defensive tone is a dead giveaway...If I'm wrong then I apologise, but it would explain a lot of why this thread went way off track from the start.

I know some female White House Staffers from the previous administration who sound just like you...some of Condoleeza's harpies, in fact... couldn't stand them - everything that I detested about that government was summed up in those 'funkers'...

I told you in my first response you were opening a can of worms by your Opening Post and sure enough, that's what happened... quite how you managed to interpret that as 'smart-mouthed' is quite beyond me, unless, as I suspect, you're a Colonial... We may both speak English, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can understand one another - I work with you guys a lot and it's pretty bewildering at times when you can both be talking to each other using the same words and phrases, but you can see in their eyes they haven't a clue what you're talking about... I might as well be speaking Egyptian, sometimes...lol

...and even though almost everyone here is still offering you solid, practical advice you still seem to think we're all ganging up on you...

How different this all could have been if your opening post went along the lines of:

"Hi, I'm a fairly experienced photographer in the fashion and events industry and I'm thinking of branching-out into weddings.
"Anyone here care to help me with some advice on any technical difficulties I may not have considered?"

It's not just the words, it's the whole tone...

You have a studio and shoot fashion for mags yet you're not a Pro , and it seems you have never been to or seen a Wedding  - otherwise you'd know what goes on and what sort of light there is. In the UK lots of fashion shoots are done wide open on fast lenses, perfect for Weddings, so you most likely have the right sort of gear already

But I say again - anyone with the knowledge needed to do what you say you do (a link to your website as evidence would help too?) should know or easily figure out what gear you may use on a Wedding. It's  that you don't know, and frankly I don't believe you

:eek::eek::eek:

It's suddenly dawned on me - - it's a wind-up - must be - it's some silly TP chap re-registering to play games Good one, you got me - now though "I'm out" - and unlike the OP I mean it

Maybe someone from the suddenly dead-jealous AP forum to see what all the fuss on FB is about...

This is the reason I wont comment on any threads started about weddings by a newish member..

Mostly started on a weekend for a bit of fun.. " SIT BACK AND WATCH THE FUN"

Not saying this one is .." But I have seen these threads so many times."

Actually, no. I saw the thread when it had no replies and that was the first thing I checked.

Now. My BS filter is playing up, I don't like popcorn and this "I'm leaving/no I'm not" get's right up my nose. Nsmall, accept the advice and drop the attitude.

It's not just the words, it's the whole tone...

You are right we may speak the same language and yet, not understand each other. But I think you going into a political analysis is completely unnecessary.

Regardless of what I have said, I am entitled to respond to posts that keep appearing with remarks, just as this.

As I said, I am not going to do the wedding as many posts have indicated that there is a lot more to it for a wedding. So I am taking those and being smart enough to say hey.....I am getting into something I cannot and will not be able to handle.

You are dead wrong by the way.....I am not American.

Now the responses that keep appearing are as though I am being ganged up upon, but this is okay as I made my decision in regards to what I had questioned in my very first post. I am taking the advice.

You are also right again.....I should have worded it differently and came out more detailed about myself and to what questions I had asked. I am not sure what kind of tone you picked up from my original post because there was no tone at all.

is that supposed to make a difference?
Having read the remainder of the thread I'd put you down as a fiction writer.

NO it does not make a difference at all, but If I am a female when everyone thinks I am a male....why can I not correct this? That is it, simple, no attitude, no nothing.

I have accepted the advice and with no attitude. Just responding back to responses that keep coming up!

Okay, I do not know where you see mags...I said newspaper. At this point I do not care what you believe or not believe as I got the info I needed to look at myself and say no....shooting as a second shooter, yes.

This thread has become like a puppy chasing it's tail.

The End :)
