I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, I'm not the official photographer, but I am taking the camera to get some shots. I've started doing a few weddings, but still very much learning the trade!

Should I approach the official tog and ask him if it's okay to observe and let him know I'm not going to be trying to do him out of any business, to avoid any suspicion from him or should I just take the shots I want and carry on?

Any advice so I don't make a backside of myself?

Take the shots and carry on! He/she doesn't need to know why you have a camera.

I guess it depends on the tog but I never worry about guests with cameras. A guest at yesterday's wedding had a 5D with grip and I was happy for him to stand alongside and share a few tips.

Of course if the tog gives you a few iffy looks you could go say a friendly hello. If the reaction is still bad probably best to put the camera away rather than risk causing any hassles.
