Wedding tog on ebay - Thoughts?

I think it's "umbievable" !

Even looking at the three pics on the page there it's already annoying me half the bodies are cut off in the two of the couple.

I'm a very strong believer in you get what you pay for......

You've got to admire their entreprenurial spirit though :shrug::thinking:

hmmmm.

I think they need to sort their spelling out before they start selling themselves on e-bay. I'm not sure about this yet. For a start, I don't know how many people would actually go on e-bay to find themselves a wedding photographer in the first place. And secondly, they don't exactly tell you much on the ad... like how long will they be staying etc. I'd be dubious about this!

Seems thats the price for midweek weddings only.. Looks like an idea to fill up midweek.. but when does that leave time to process weekend pics... unless different people photographing and editing..

Would hate anyone else to edit my pics

god.
would YOU auction yourself off on ebay?
run away very quickly would be my thoughts if i were a punter.
although i bet some will take him up on it.
def umbievable

I think most would agree... But then theres that line although i bet some will take him up on it. and I bet your right which makes the photographer a winner as he is making 100 quid probably in his dinner hr :)

I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole either as customer or trying it myself.. But it might work for them.

Hell no. I wouldn't!

I wonder if they have even thought about the sellers fees too... I mean, they must lose about £10 from this too (I'm not an e-bay buff, so don't know what the fees are).

Me thinks business may not be booming!

you should check out their regular website at http://www.smileatus.co.uk

Looks like for £99 you get just the ceremony covered and a CD of pics to print yourself. I can actually see a market for this, but doubt the quality will be any better than a half talented guest with a p&s could do for them.

I wonder what PapaLazarou would think of this.

What do we think of this?

I think he's trying a clever low cost way of marketing himself, a great way of getting traffic to his site and a chance of up selling for those who do get in contact.

There are obviously issues with grammar and spelling but I don't have an issue with him promoting himself on ebay, it's as much a part of society now as the yellow pages

 Just tried his site and its off line, HMMMM  top notch operation he has there
EDIT jusy checked again and its back up, must have been all the traffic from TP:lol:

And there's me thinking spelling was not one of my finer points. mind you not all off his services are cheap there's a wedding package for £1895. No problem with ebay they seem to be part of every day life now.

our top end package is vaguely similar to his.
for a lot more money.
and we tell em about the albums on our site too.
sorry, i still wouldnt sell a service like that on ebay.
you go on ebay looking for a cheap deal.
not necesarily (sp) a high quality one.

At the umbievable cost of £99!....... and always mannage to get the best from the day.

 It's totally umbeivable, I can't hardy beive it, can you? How do they mannage to offer such a low prooce?

Hmmm...

It's not the same but for 2009 I'm doing a "make me an offer" thing. Simple idea, client chooses the coverage, package, etc. and names their price and I'll consider it. I thought I'd get a lot of silly offers from people hoping to get a cheap deal but hoped there'd be a few who would give me a better idea of the local market and how people really valued wedding photography. To my surprise I've not had a single one looking for a bargain, just people who've put together a package that suits them at a price in line with what I would have charged. It's also been pretty good at driving people to my site

Still waiting for someone to take me up on the free photography for a wedding abroad offer mind ;)

I wouldn't do a £99 offer though

Well its cheap marketting with a massive audience. But I think its worth having two user accounts, one for the business and one for personal. If you check out Hampshire weddings this is a list of things he/she has bought

The first item maybe was a studio prop :lol:.

There are a lot of people who buy everything from online and would consider a photographer but they would check them out

I'm not sure it's fair to criticise the guys spelling/website etc on here when he's not here to defend himself, as he may have dyslexia or some other reason why he can't spell. Maybe he should've run it through a spell checker etc, but is it really our place to take the P?

As for the business, if it works for him, why not, fair play to him I say.

He might be on later if he checks his webstats and sees "referer: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=90059 " anyway

edit:

i have just looked at his site he is a half decent tog BUT! i look at all his pictures and think where is the rest feet missing everywhere but worth £99 i would think

I have spelling issues and i find it hard to find the confidence to post on some sites because i cant spell a certain word. I hate to think you guys would treat your children/partner this way if they had a learning difficulty.

I put my hands up to this guy and say well done on doing such a good and modern way of marketing himself.

Its 2008 guys and we all need to try new ways of making money! This guy has find a niche in market and is prob doing very well from it. He has had over 100 views on his auction lets say 70% look at his site thats over 70 people looking at his site which is prob more than most of you lot get. Just making the point that this guy is prob doing well from this.

I wouldn't knock it too much. Ebay isn't just for flogging your old or knock off crap. Used cleverly, it is a great marketing tool for directing traffic to your own site, general brand building, etc!

Edit: I cant comment on the services offered as i have no experience. It's the bit about using ebay that I am commenting on.

If he's found a gap in the market and is earning, good for him.

Won't crit his work as he's not here.

Surely any business oriented tog should applaud him for his ingenuity and as Dod showed he's not alone.

I think you will find I did.. I never suggested anyone should rag his website as i didnt even mention it..

I posted this thread in business section and asked what people thought.. ie as a business idea... I also posted later that I thougth he was probably on a winner even though I wouldnt do it

Its not my fault if others critique his website or his pics or spelling or anythign else... I just posed the question about the business idea...

OK ?

I think that's a bit unfair to assume that we would treat our partners or children in any different way just because they may have a learning difficulty. I think what we are saying is that if you are posting something to promote your website or services, then you should be checking and re-checking what you are putting. Personally, little things like bad spelling on a professional website doesn't inspire confidence!

I openly admit that I am bad at spelling, I have a mild form of dyslexia myself and struggle at times, especially with things like differentiating between lose and loose, etc. HOWEVER, I spell check anything that I am posting or e-mailing in a professional manner, and if I still can't spell the word, I change it to something that I can spell.

I'm personally not critising him or his photography in any way. I just think that his ebay posting is rushed and somewhat unprofessional!

To be honest i think some of the photos on his website are quite nice, and I've certainly seen a lot worse that people have paid for, I'm also sure I've seen his work somewhere else i seem to remember a couple of the pics, anyway EBay does seem to be a good advertising tool after all it gets millions of hits, so why not try and make it work to your advantage, i wouldn't mind betting this guy gets quite a bit of work from there, particularly in the economic climate where moving into now with the credit crunch and everything, bloody good luck to him i say.

Interesting Kippax - thanks for posting, anything as a business idea is worth investigating however daft it may at first appear

As a Business Idea I suspect you'd have to view this as more of a 'Loss leader', sure £100 to snap away for a couple of hours, perhaps run a batch process action on it and hand it over isn't actually a bad rate of pay is it

But I think it's more likely that people would decide on a little 'upgrade' to the £200-£400 packages on offer as, as pxl8 says, they have an expectation of what it should cost and may well be suspicious of anything 'obviously too cheap'. Although we all like a bargain, we also like to spend money too as that also makes us feel good - so the best is to spend a fair bit but feel that you've got great value, and not been 'ripped off'

If overheads are low, then I think this could well work - and the photos posted are ok, so it's sustainable

Not one for me, but I'm sure it could work - it is after all what Aldi & Netto do so well

OK ?

just covering my back :) :)

Most certainly wasn't having a go at you, i just quoted your OP so as to answer the question:)

Your back can be re uncovered? as it is safe:)

Maybe he keeps his prices down by using all the disposable cameras that he's bought. :D

Look at his feedback after 6 months to a year and see how many booked?

I dont think he has been running the advert that long.. in fact I would say its new.. I do a regular search on ebay for the word "Accrington" loking for anything local ... This came up for the first time ever yesterday..

I read that EBay has 77 million users so wide audience.
I first sold my junk on EBay in 2004 and in 2005 made £4500 Nice, paid for holiday that year.

If I was skint I would book this photographer because he is in my view above average and nothing like an amateur with point and shoot.

£99 is cheap memories and we are all talking about him so what a great marketer.

His website shows lots of weddings down so he is getting work

I have just seen a wedding done for £1800 and my dog could do better. This eBay bloke is perfect in comparison

He is quiets mid week so looking for more work That’s why you have happy hours in pubs on the quiet days. It generates business

Don’t knock it what can you do better? Just cos you charge a lot and have letters after your name means nothing. If the customers like em and pays up Job done!
