Wedding tog on ebay - Thoughts?

"I have just seen a wedding done for £1800 and my dog could do better"

Must have been bred by Nikon then

I must have a 'Canon bred dog' myself... all it does is eats, sleeps and poos :shake:

But we're in agreement that it's a sound business idea as there's sod all work involved and his photos are ok. If you could can get into a Reg Office like ours, it's possible to do 3 even 4 a day easily if all you're doing is shooting and (assuming some batch action PP) handing over a disk of images

If this post is so new on ebay as Kippax says, perhaps we should all keep an eye on him - he may be the new 'Venture', coming to a town near you!!!

I dont think he has been running the advert that long.. in fact I would say its new.. I do a regular search on ebay for the word "Accrington" loking for anything local ... This came up for the first time ever yesterday..

Thats why I said look after 6 months to a year!

I think its a good idea, a little unpolished perhaps but a nice first try - I know some of my business paraphernalia needed refinement over time, I'll be interested to see how he does, good luck to him I say.

Fair play to him for having a go, but neither the Ebay advert or his website left me bouncing from the ceiling with joy.

dont get upset about spelling on here guys.
mine is often as carp as anyone elses.
my mrs is dyslexic , and a few spelling mistakes have crept onto our site where ive missed em. (thanks for pointing em out peoples)
but if its as high profile ,coverage wise as ebay, you,d think he'd spellcheck or summat.
or maybe its a deliberate ploy to get people talking about it.
seems to have worked.

websites a pile

needs some serious work, looks totally amateur and wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

After being harrassed off this site earlier this summer by YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE I didn't think i'd be posting here again. But this is an interesting one....
I saw someone doing this last year to a considerable success, not the best bya long chalk, but £700, had 60 reviews and a 99.8% positive feedback. He'd set them up for the weekends he had available and sold them like anything else, did a reasonable job and kept his customers happy. It's a very good traffic driver too.
The other thing with this is, and having seen it in the press I laffed me nogging off, once the couple had stumped up the £99 asked for the 'photographer' says thanks for your non-refundable deposit there's just a balance to pay of £599. Buyer beware...served the couple right frankly for treating there own wedding with such little regard.

Hmm, been there and got the t-shirt.

you should check out their regular website at http://www.smileatus.co.uk

but doubt the quality will be any better than a half talented guest with a p&s could do for them.

Why do you think the quality will be poor? They might be good togs.

I wonder if they're on this forum? It would be good to hear from them because they might actually be doing quite well. Because as was said above, there could be quite a lucrative market there. A quick half hour at a registry office, copy there pics to a CD and post 'em off. Could be OK.

Good luck to them. Think it's a great idea to help pay the bills.

Anyone else on here, like me, not working (through no fault of my own - other than getting ill) and getting deeper in debt just trying to buy food and a roof for their family?

Does it really matter what the quality of their work is like as long as the customer is happy.

Don't forget those customers are probably just a happy couple trying to make their hard earnt go as far as possible and not a bunch of highly critical toggers on a forum always seeking perfection (and acceptance).

i think there is no problem using ebay - or any other market place (and ebay is big), although i would be interested to know the reasons for using 1600iso in the studio shots, and f22 in daylight in p mode near a church

the repeated switching between Nikon and canon suggests two photographers or a photographer who cannot make their mind up

however if the customer is happy that really is the bottom line....often you do get what you pay for, if you have a small budget, then maybe he has Cornered the market and is doing very well thank you

Not the sort of this I would Buy from eBay and yes there are spelling mistakes, as the saying goes "First Impressions Count" but like most ideas/business you need to get the customers in first and then fine tune the details later, this is a low cost way of marketing, and could possibly work!!

A clever way of thinking and Good Luck to them.

I remember when I was the cheap wedding shooter. Looking back at my work, I don't think I'd have hired myself.

What's he charging for reprints?

Might undercut him by 50p ;)

WOW thats great but why undercut them?

Why not book them yourself & whack an extra £50 on & charge your
customer.

Think of all the work you wouldnt have to do yourself like printing, editing
etc

Spot on

Hi guys..... don't knock eBay as a way of promoting your business.... it's a very cost effective way of getting your details out on the WWW..... I've set up in business (only been running full time since April and eBay has been one of the best marketing tools I've come across.... yes I used it first to advertise myself cheaply... just to get a few bookings in to get the portfolio running... but now I have my full price ads running and its going well. I get a lot of site traffic from ebay and for £1.60 per month for 3 ads it can't be all that bad!!!!!!!
