could any one point me in the direction please.

Somebody has asked me if I can put one of those misty circular borders (like you often see on wedding photos) on a picture I took for them, that they want to print.

I honestly wouldnt have a clue how to do it.

I am guessing it would be some kind of special layer with the centre masked out.

any ideas please

thanks

It's a vignette you're wanting by the sound of it? Use an oval mask tool (Usually a choice in the mask settings) Feather the mask by quite a lot of pixels- you'll need to experiment to get the best effect. When happy just cut out the pic and paste it onto a plain white background (or other suitable colour) When you finally crop the pic make sure you know what size frame they'll be using and keep each edge of the oval (top, bottom, left and right) an equal distance from the edge of the frame or it looks a bit strange when framed,.

Hmmm. It is fairly easy to achieve. You haven't mentioned what editing software you are using?

If by this evening no one else has responded, I will set out how to do it or give you a link to a tutorial. My work lappy hasn't got an editing suite loaded. Gillian

Aha! Cheers Cedric - you beat me to it.

Help Mods! what did I do with that post. Could you please merge them for me. Teach me to eat my yoghurt and try posting at the same time. Sorreee

If you use a layer mask for this technique then you can unlink the layer mask from the layer (just click the link icon next to the layer mask in the layers palette) & then transform the mask without transforming the layer - really useful for frames & such as you do not affect your image until you apply the layer mask.
Just shout out if i've not been clear enough :bonk:

Everyone should learn from Gilly & not eat yoghurt whilst trying to post replies as it leads to funny sentences

I thought that would bring you guys out of the woodwork.....
