The girlfriend and I are looking to tie the know in the next year or two but are looking to do it a little different and am wondering if any toggers on here have seen something similar.

Neither of us are religious in any sense and are looking to get married in a hall rather than a church, also rather than having a priest or a registrar we would like our friend to marry us as he has known us both for years and it would mean a hell of a lot more than a stranger doing it. I know an individual can be ordained to marry a couple in the US and you can't do it over here. My question is whether my friend can do all the stuff at the front of the church with a registrar on hand to do the official signing etc.

Has anyone seen this before or know if it is possible?

I guess not, especially as all ceremonies have certain 'contract words' that have to be in there, but ask a registrar.

What kind of hall? Maybe a hotel perhaps?

Pretty sure that it has to be a registrar, but definately worth investigating if your friend can conduct the ceromony or part of the ceromony?

Remember that the day is about you and your fiance though - please, don't let others tell you what to do!

Ohh, I think it has to be a registrar 'legally' but I don't suppose there would be anything wrong with actually getting married legally in private maybe and then your mate doing the ceremony over again with your guest present.
I would be nipping down to County Hall and speaking to them, I know up here they are very obliging as they want to see the happy day be everything you want.

Of course everything I have typed could be rubbish, so just ask them - by the way it sounds a fabulous plan to make your day even more special !

Actually, what you could possibly see about doing, is bride and groom plus 2 witnesses do the ceromony with registrar, then call in everyone else and friend conducting the ceromony, then signing the registar? OK, it's awkward, but possibly do-able!

Of course you could always get married in the USA then there would be no problem. Or for something different go on a cruise and get the ships captain to marry you, thats something different. Even if its only on the Isle of Wight ferry for a quick service. :lol::lol::lol:

We both want a different wedding that is a bit wierd and more personal, traditional white dress, flowers etc but our friend doing the readings, another friend playing an acoustic version of greenday basketcase for the mrs walking down the isle and a pre-paid ice cream van outside for when guests leave the hall/hotel, partly to keep them busy, partly because I want one too and partly because I'd love some shots int the icecream van :D

That would be awesome! Love to get married in NY as we go every year. The togger we want is also from NY so we'd have to incur the cost of flying him over but flying all the guests out wouldn't be cheap!!

Sounds awesome, would love to shoot a Wedding like that - gimme a shout if fancy a chat !

Just stick to close family best man and bridegroom then, come back for the reception later. We have a number of our clients do that usually to the Bahamas or similar, saves on wedding costs over here. Block booking can work out a bit cheaper with flight and hotel. Weigh up the cost against the traditional English wedding, you might be well suprised.

Thinking Alcatraz would be somewhere different to get married at, after all you will be chained down for the rest of your life so might as well start as you mean to go on.:wave::wave::wave:

Ideally I would love Ryan Brenizer to shoot our wedding although it would be expensive but the guy is a genius, he seems to capture the feel of a wedding perfectly and as I want it to be a close, fun wedding he seems perfect

Realistically have to look at cost as we've been quoted about £2-3k to get him over here and shoot it.

Definitely keep you in mind though, love your work :)

Thats awesome! To be honest though I do want quite a few of my closest friends to be there though. We'll have the honeymoon in NY (or Alcatraz :S) and show people photos, its almost as good for them :D

Remember there are 3 rings to a marriage

1= Engagement ring
2 = Wedding ring
3= Suffering

I should know having been married for 38 years

That's all possible, honest. Ok, I married the same man twice :lol: the second time was a dream (there's a thread somewhere on here) we had the bridal march down and a sega song going back up, we had 10 bridesmaids, 1 ringbearer and 2 ushers (and best man) (and a "guest" who pretended to be a bridesmaid), we had a late afternoon wedding and afterwards went to our favourite restarant (granted had a break inbetween, I kinda had to), we had an aunt, friend and niece doing the readings, the men wore flourecent green ties :D and we had a bright pink and green wedding cake! (And all together, less than 30 people)

What I'm saying (with a billion words when 20 could probably do) is it can be anything you want it to be and if there's an obsticle, make a compromise if you have to, if it's something that you really want, it's about you 2, your love for each other and sharing the day with those you hold dearest. Just because traditionally xxxx happens, doesn't mean it has to for you two, weddings should be unique - because no 2 couples are the same and the day should reflect the couple IMHO.

(sorry for blathering on)

Eternity ring comes after first sprog traditionally, though it's becoming more common for it to be given on the first wedding anniversary or there abouts, or a special event/anniversary :thumbs:

Not as easy as people think

1.Even though it is believed to be a regular event, a ship's captain generally doesn't have the legal right to perform a wedding at sea. In order for a Captain of a ship to perform a marriage at sea, he must be a judge, a justice of the peace, a minister or an officially recognize officiant such as a Notary Public.

2.Japanese ships allow Captains to perform a marriage ceremony at sea, but only if the couple has valid Japanese passports.

3.Through Bermuda law, and because the captains have Bermuda licenses to perform weddings, captains aboard Princess Cruise's "Golden Princess" and the "Grand Princess" can perform weddings aboard ship and at sea. 800-774-6237

4.A romantic alternative is to have your wedding aboard ship while it is docked in a port. You need to follow the port's requirements for such a wedding. All cruise lines offer this option.

5.Many cruise lines will require that once in port, you will need to leave the ship, swear before a judge that everything is correct with previous prepared paperwork, then go back to the ship for your ceremony.

6.If you want to renew your vows at sea, you need to show proof of a valid marriage.

7.If the captain obtains a temporary permit to perform your wedding, a Cruise West captain can officiate your wedding within Alaska waterways.
