Hi guys,

For the first time i am covering a wedding. But it needs to be really good. So what all should i keep in mind before clicking in the event.
I ll be using D600 and 70-300 lens...
Please advice...

Yay another wedding thread! If anyone wants me I'll be at the back with the popcorn :)

Don't tell me....................you did a search but the threads are all closed?

Before this gets silly.

Are you the photographer or just attending?

Are you charging?

What other gear do you have?

Can we see examples of your work to assess your current standard so we know what you're realistically capable of?

Over to you.

Check to see if they read The Sun

You lot probably scared the op half to death......

Nah the sheer volume of people sitting hear munching popcorn sounded like a pack of wolves.

Hire someone that knows what they are doing and doesn't need to come on a forum to ask the above?

Pah! :suspect:

To be fair, Phil's questions are a good start, however, the fact the OP said he's covering his first wedding and "it needs to be really good" (to me) negates the usual questions ie cost , are you insured, have you done it before etc etc.

So yeh probably right, there's a stink of popcorn, but.....

Whilst this thread did make me choke on my cuppa, I think we should all remember that everyone has to start somewhere.

Simple advice?- if you think a 70-300 mm lens is adequate, give up now, while you're ahead......:D

Haha you guys are so cruel the OP asks a simple question and your cuing up to throw popcorn at him lol

Jeet use the forum search function it has a wealth of information

Swap your lens with a 24-70 and keep the fingers crossed...

Last month you posted a thread saying you were a beginner.. and have just bought your first DSLR... So I hope this wedding is as a guest.. We do all have to start somewhere - but not sure if a full 'paid for' wedding is the best place to start that if you've had your first DSLR for under a month.. Are you starting as an assistant? Is it a friend? Or have you been 'booked professionally'?

Worrying indeed this is......

OP also seems to have a d3100, which I suspect inadequate for the job, simply because nothing at a wedding is ever ideal for photographs. Seems OP has had issues with noise already, this won't improve at a wedding.

Don't charge more than your "expenses" and you should be ok. :D

Perhaps you should read more closely before criticising. He said that over a year ago in 2012. It wasn't last month at all.

You are correct - my apology..I incorrectly thought that with the low post count, the OP was a newish member.. When I saw the other posts around being a newbie, it didn't occur to check the year.

Seems like they've been here a while, but not made that many contributions..

It's still jumped from 'I'm a newbie' to 'I'm shooting a wedding'.. So it'd be good to get some additional details as we don't know what's happened since this time last year..

Of the 25 replies, 22 have no relevance to the OP's question.

What would you do if you were the OP?

To the OP; This is a friendly forum (honest), give us a bit more info (as per my earlier post) and we'll try and be helpful.

I would run a mile Phil, and nicely put here's hoping the OP does come back for help hey?

Well lets hope you never need any advice then.

What is wrong with you all?

Do you all know everything? I very much doubt it.

I'll just get my flameproof coat on now.

I thought Kevin had agreed with you and me?

Oooops!

I thought he had put

The fellas been here over a year, albeit contributed very little. I think they kind of knew what the response to a question like " how do I shoot a wedding and make it good"
I think the responses have been light hearted and completely in keeping with the TP mentality of friendly and truthful
Can we stop being (mock) offended on his behalf, it hardly comes over as a serious enquiry after a year aboard, or does it?

Actually it does come over as a serious enquiry.

OP obviously doesn't post much and is probably unaware of the previous threads on this subject, so how would he know what sort of response he would get?

I am sorry but the responses so far do not come across (to non-regulars) as "light hearted" they come across as unhelpful and childish, however they may appear to regular posters.

Not everyone wishes (or has the time) to post on a regular basis. Does this make them less worthy of a friendly, polite and appropriate reply?

Heather

Agree 100%

If anyone feels this is a genuine enquiry, answer away. Im not so sure myself
Regardless of number of posts, im sure anyone remotely interested in weddings would gave seen several wedding posts descend into chaos after a year on here
Maybe better if the posters taking the time to comment on light hearted (childish) answers, took time to answer the OP if they feel somethings amiss
Now im off to work before another argument begins

Wow...!!! Didnt expect that many replies thou... Especially that kind... But yes any helpful comment is welcome. I have posted after a long time but am nervous about this wedding...
I am getting paid for this one and i am doing this for the first time.
I ll be using D600 and my D3100.
I am working as a second shooter.
I generally do street photography.
So i request serious suggestion on the kit.

And people who have enough spare time to comment ******** are also welcome...:-):-):-)

If you are the second shooter then it's probably most important to agree with the main photographer what is expected of you and to agree a plan.

Generally if I use a second then their primary role is to get the candids and help organise guests, carry kit etc. If I am the second then that's what I do.

You say the wedding has to be 'good'. Well that is the primary photographer's judgement as to what is 'good'. So it's him you need to talk to.

Few more questions jeet....

What lenses have you got currently?
Are you in a position to hire additional kit or maybe acquire in time?

The good news you are a second shooter which will reduce the pressure slightly on yourself but as you are doing this paid I'm sure your expected to deliver a certain standard have you got any previous work which we could have a look at to help you on your way.

Phil posted some questions earlier on try answer them best you can then will get more direct advice.
