Wedding Photographer needed!!!

I wasn't going to jump into this but I'll just make a quick point.

This to me looks like an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to get into wedding photography to get some experience and shots for their portfolio without too many expectations.

Good luck to Amelia finding what she wants and good luck to whoever takes the plunge, this is a great chance to get started in a tricky field to break into.
 
Poor analogy. A better one would be to ring the sparks and ask for a quote based on you doing most of the job yourself, but him coming round just to wire the sockets and connect up to the mains supply. Most would put the phone down on you

in any industry if a potential customer comes and asks for a quote you give them one

Im not an electrician but if I went on a spark's forum and someone came on asking for a quote to fit a socket I would expect to see someone provide it, if they want the work
not start going on about quality of wire and time taken to drill holes - just a "i'll do if for 70 quid love" - "here's an example of a socket I fitted last week so you can see how good I am", "if that quality of work is acceptable to you we have a deal?"

It's not quite the same thing though. Amelia has said she can and wants to do most of the work, and that she just wants someone to take pics! She has also challenged several quotes that have been provided, and thus it isn't unreasonable for the community to come back with a response.

Also, your analogy is slightly flawed. A better one is sort of a reverse of the one you suggested. It'd be like doing the wiring yourself, connecting the cables yourself, putting in the sockets yourself, but asking the spark to sign it off as his/her work.
 
Ok again I don't want a big debate on this! If you have read my request and are willing to help me out then please give me a quote. Im not knocking any quotes given...i will just get them in, compare the prices/people work and then make my decision accordingly. I have emailed a lot of photographers and each have given me varying prices...so thats all im after.

Im sorry to have offended anyone, but im trying to make the project simpler, by the photographer not having to do the tedious job of retouching. For instance if we were making a brochure for a client and we supplied with retouched photography already, as a freelancer, we would charge less for the project then if we were to spend time having to do it all ourselves.

If not interested then u can ignore my request, but if you are, just send me a message and cost quote.

Presumably this is a response to my post, so I'll explain why I made it.

The are plenty of students who will do the job for expenses and experience and my first reply pointed Amelia in this direction.

However, Amelia's comment that when wedding is mentioned the prices hike up shows how little she understands the effort and work that is involved. Something that MusicMan picked up on as well. My post was to demonstrate the level of work that does go into a wedding job, that it's not simply taking photos and not the money making scam people think it is.

With wedding photography you do get what you pay for and the photos are the one lasting record of the day. Doing it cheap is a big risk and often ends in disaster.

Amelia says the idea is to save the tog some of the work by doing it herself. I would never allow any of my shots to be used in such a way.

Call me precious if you want but my shots are MY shots and only I will process them. Not doing the processing work isn't a time saver, it's a non-starter.

This is very true, I wouldn't touch a job if anyone else is involved.
 
I'd be quite interested in how Amelia's responses have differred across the various forums?

I dont think we're a bad bunch on the whole, but i would suggest to StevieF8 that a translation of Amelias request was unnecessary and the beauty of a forum is that it promotes discussion on a theme.
 
Jeebus! Missed this whole thread and kinda glad I did - one of the oddest responses to a post I have seen on here :(

Amelia at no point said she was after a professional wedding tog and it seems a lot of the pro wedding togs on here have leapt on this and taken out a fair bit of frustration on someones simple request.

I am just glad this wasnt the first ever thread I read on here!
 
Feeling a little guilty that perhaps my flippant remark at the start of this thread set the tone.

I got married about five years ago before I got into photography, and we decided to hire a family friend who was a keen photographer to take the photos (gave him £300). The result was an album full of rubbish - while he was a half decent photographer, he had no idea of the sequence of a wedding, fixated on certain guests, made poor use of available light and lacked any kind of people management skills. My frustration around the 'just take photos' remark comes from this.

My advice to Amelia is to find photographers whose work she LOVES first, and then cut down the list to the ones that fall within her budget, and then pick one of those, rather than thinking of price as the prime determining factor. It's usually fair to say that the one's that charge more do so for one reason - that they can - i.e. the work is of a standard that attracts more customers, and hence creates a sellers market.

Approaching photographers thinking that they are rip-off merchants is hardly a good way to start a relationship that is going to give you the best images.

Amelia, in your last post you described the job of retouching as 'tedious'. Tedious it may be sometimes, but it's also a part of the photographers craft. For me the image capture is only the start of a process that produces a finished image - the initial sketch say. I would be dubious about photographers that would be willing to supply you with images straight from the camera, to me it shows a lack of pride in the one thing that should be important to them.

No it wasn't nesessary, quotes were flooding in for the work :shrug:

I think this thread has run it's course and it's time to close it, as I think all the ground's been covered. If anyone fancies quoting Amelia for the wedding then they can contact her via PM. :)
