Hi all,

I'm getting married in about a years time and I REALLY REALLY want to design the invties myself (under strict supervision from Mrs Fawks of course!) a) to save money but also b) to put something personal into it. I don't mind investing time in it, hence the long notice.

After doin some research and getting some ideas we'd love them to look SIMILAR to this:

But maybe with our initials in the middle, and butterflys, lovey/dovey insignia rather than then guns/knives!!!

As a relative PSer I can do the basics but am eager to learn the skills to make something like the above.

How difficult would it be to create the 'distressed/worn' look? I Imagine the paisley effect wpould be easy and the illustrations could be pieced together via line-art etc?

Any help greatfully recieved!

Not hard at all. Time consuming, faffy, perhaps stressful, but not hard.

You need to learn about layers to achieve the front (and the back as well)
- The background you can photo/scan/borrow_from_the_web
- The distressed effect can be achieved with a layer overlay of scratches on glass or lines on paper with a few smudging blurrs (this takes the time to faf)
- The bit in the middle is another layer with a feathered selection mask

Perfick, exactly what I was hoping for. I Don't mind putting in the hours/faf-time!

Need a little help on this, if that's Ok and anyone can spare a few seconds ....

After playing around and trial and error, i think I will be fine with the background and the scratched effect, fine with the layering and the actual illustration of the central piece but:

I am having trouble achieveing the effect of the transisition between the pattern and the white background layer - the mottled, coffee stained look.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial or give me a nudge in the right direction? Many thanks.
 
Personally I'd start with a blank piece of paper, put a coffee cup stain on it, few marks etc, scan that in and use that as my background layer. Wayne
 
You can get copyright free backgrounds from digital scrapbooking sites, I'll have a dig round and see if I still have the links

As per O.G. - Not certain, but I think you could achieve something similar by feathering a white oval with the right brush - either custom or one of photoshop's presets to get that texture.

Actually, it looks like a couple of layers to me - a bit of 'splodgy' (technical term) texture over the feathered white oval, which floats over the curly background image.
 
The answer to this is quite easy - don't get married, save yourself a fortune, and the hassle of DIY.... :D

:lol: Too late for that mate, the sentence has been passed!

Thanks all VERY MUCH fpr your input - after 6 weeks travelling in SE Asia, i'm coming back to this now. Will try some of your suggestions, see you in about 4 minutes for some stoopid questions. :)
