Yes
I've been approached by a neighbour who's daughter is getting married in February next year at Roxburgh? about 2 miles from Kelso. She only wants about 20 shots and she's being quoted horrendous prices by the local pros so there's a nice little job here for anyone who wants to earn some good dosh for a couple of hours work. ;)

It's a registrar's wedding but it's taking place at a local hotel. If anyone is interested please post here and I'll put you in touch with the bride's father. :)

The date is Tuesday, 12th February, 2008

Weddings and Babies. Hmmmmmmmm? :D Sorry jusy can't quite drum up the enthuisiasm.;)

tempting, 4 hour drive though :(

Go on, Allan!

I'm doing my very first one at a castle in august, I've never even shadowed anyone.

Go for it........she only wants about 20 shots!....no big church do!

Ah, go on, go on, go on, go on!!!! :D

might be tempted if i could meet the couple at the venue first. I'll PM you when ive got a bit more time.

I'm tempted, I've never shot a wedding before, but February is a long way away, who knows, I might have some experience by then. What budget are we looking at CT?

Well the best quote they've had so far is 800 quid with some being a lot more. If it was more local I'd be happy to do it for around 500 quid - silly money for a couple of hours work -tops. How much you charge is up to you though, you could do it for less if you wanted the experience, and still make good money - the overheads aren't great. ;)

We charge about £400 for a full days wedding shoot. Shame we are 600 miles away!

I went to a wedding two weeks ago and the 'Pro' turned up with a Canon 350 and Jessops tripod. Took about 20 shots in and around the church - looked flustered as hell and left soon afterwards... he kept saying 'Just take another shot for Insurance!'

I Nearly went home and got my camera!

Turned out he was a friend of a friend of the family who was just starting out doing weddings..... oh dear.:'(

I take my hat off to you all who do weddings, I don't think I could stand the stress!

went to a wedding for the first time the other day. there was a pro and assistant there, as I pulled out my camera I got a couple of interested glances, they had 5d's so its not like my 1d would have caused much envy...(?) :D still, did my best to stay out of the way and I was watching carefully...though after a time they started to follow me around as I went looking for different angles, cheeky sods! It looked more of a 'PR/be nice and organise everyone' task rather than a massively demanding photographical one. thats not to squash the efforts of the wedding photographers out there but just an observation, and to anyone starting out all I can say is have everything planned out before you go to bed the day before...things like poses you'd want of the couple, family, friends, at the church/reception venue etc and then be good at firm but polite commands, as well as all the equipment you'd want to use. an assistant is a real advantage to have who can operate a back-up camera and take different angles etc. I was impressed with the stamina more than anything - takes a fair bit of effort at times getting people to do what you want, bit like herding cats!
still, I came away with a good number of shots that the couple are happy at, what its all about really

£800 quid sounds like robbery to me. Do you no what this included, album, printing, website/internet display etc. Could probably do it for a lot less and still make a healthy profit, some 'pros' are gready.

£500 is what I charge Cedric, Makes a nice round figure..:)

ERM!!! ...

A couple of hours work minimum at the venue Cedric..;)

Then all the processing/sorting through what pics they want/Getting the prints and most of all hoping they will be happy with the results.

Would I do it again, Too right I would any time..

OMG £800 for 20 photos

I paid about £500-£600 when i got married for unlimiited amount from Kodak before they went bust and they offered me £15 for all the negatives

How to inspire client confidence!

Well I'd have to take a day off work from my "real" job if it's a Tuesday....

I normally charge £400 for a days shoot. See some of my wedding images in my gallery. http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=908

My only problem is I'm nearly 100 miles away (in Hamilton, Lanarkshire).

If you are struggling, I could probably do it but would need more info on the types of shots they want. PM me if needed.

Cheers
Jim

No probs Jim and I know you've done weddings before. They're not looking for anything fancy at all, just some well posed, traditional type shots.

If you're interested (or anyone else) I'll put you in touch with the bride's father. :)

CT grahamb from S2KI did my mates wedding and he is now up in Edinburgh. HTH :)

It seems a shame they are getting quotes for so much. If it was local anmd at a weekend, I would do it for a lot less!

Can I suggest that they try the local camera club there? There's usually a few that do weddings (there's a couple in my club that do that).

They would most likely be reasonably priced and generally the quality is very good with an experienced photographer.

Let me know if you don't get anyone..... wouldn't see them stuck :)

Well - there's plenty of time, but thanks for your input Jim.

I did suggest to my neighbour that he buys some entry level kit and I could train him up between now and February.

No worries CT. Keep me informed.

Cheers

If wedding photographer is still required, I may be interested as I live in Jedburgh. Able to show examples of wedding photography we have "done" in the past
