Wedding in a shopping centre

I am shooting a wedding In a hotel which back on to a designer clothes shopping centre. I have the idea of doing a slow ss shot with the b&g to show all the movement around them.

Do you think I need to get permission or just try and wing it. Just wondering the security may move us on?
 
You could try and get permission but to be honest in the circumstances you have described I would just shoot it and just fient ignorance if anyone objects.

"just do it and apologise afterwards if needed" may seem reckless but if your not putting yourself or anyone else in any danger then it's sometimes the easiest way.
 
If you had posted this today, I would have thought it an April Fool. Why would someone want a shopping centre interior as a backdrop to their wedding photos?
 
Why not? Just something different. It may give an editorial aspect to the wedding album that could be fun. But you will likely get no more than 2 minutes before security arrive, so I'd practice it somewhere else with a different subject (perhaps just your friend in another shopping centre) to make sure you have the right gear and technique to pull off the shot you want.

It's always easier to ask for forgiveness than to seek permission. Just go with it. But I don't know if B&G will want to risk the hassle of it all, though. it's their day. Ask them for their opinions first, along with the example of your practice shot. Otherwise, it's a waste of their precious time.
 
The shopping centre is a fashionable arcade. And the hotel were the ceremony and reception are is a bolt on to the arcade. The b&g chose the venue as it is the trendy "in place to be seen". The fact that it has a flyover 50 feet outside the front door of the hotel and a canal at the back of if makes my job harder for location shooting.

Lawrie a b&g in an unusual location sometimes adds more interest to the shot, I hope this one works out.

My theory behind the shot as I said is a ss speed shot showing the world moving around them as a wedding is a world wind day.

The shopping centre is not a very busy one like a high street. I just hope I have enough time to get the shot before they kick us out.

I am meeting the b&g again next week to finalise some details and will runt through it with them. Hopefully hey are up for it

You must have some pretty fragile brides if security turning up is gonna reduce them to tears, I think most of mine would find it funny.

Army, naval bases etc or anywhere else protected by armed personnel or places that are properly private property/restricted areas it definitely makes sense to get permission first ..... but a shopping centre where there is gonna be joe public walking around taking pictures with their phones all day anyway I think its overkill and expect to be turned down if you ask beforehand.

If you were setting up lots of light stands and stuff then that would be the exception where I think getting permission would be a good idea, but taking a few pics as you walked through I would do without permission personally.

Thanks, that was my thought on it too. Meeting up with the couple tonight so will see what they think.

It will be a walk though, no studio lighting. Going to go their this weekend to do a few test shots so it's quick on the day
 
My local shopping centre is owned by a private company. Security would stop anyone taking photos ......but I suppose if you were quick........
 
Met with the couple last night and they love the concept so all being well I will get the shot.
Will post it If it turns out ok. Think I am going to take one safety shot which i can edit in PS for the same effect to turn back to if need be.
 
On the other hand, I would contact the centre first, but not just for permission. If you are shooting outside on public, or the hotel's land you don't need it anyway.

I'd want to get in touch with the centre so that I could shoot inside and really make a feature of it: b&g on an escalator, b&g on onside of escalator going up, rest of bridal party coming down confetti etc, reflection in a shop window; ie really really go for it, and not just take a sneaky pic outside. They want different and trendy? Then give it to them.

The other point is that if you sell this to the shopping centre well, then they could both benefit. The centre could generate some good PR from it, and you could flog some extra or background shots to the local paper or the centre itself - think laterally!

The planned shot is inside the arcade. So one I am their I can develop a few shots with the couple.
 
Did the Shots in the shopping centre and they went well. Got a bit of processing to do so will post soon
