just wondering if any of you lot have counted how many shots you take at a wedding?.
our proof books have been upto 400 shots, and weve been known to take upto 750 shots on a full day coverage job(make up to throw up) .
there are two of us shooting , but wondered if anyone else takes as many.:thinking:
 
400 proofs does sound on the high side - how many are going in the final album?

How many shots I take does depend a lot on the size of the wedding and how much is going on during the day - next year I've got one with outdoor games and activities such as giant snakes & ladders, greased pole fighting, etc. so the shot count will be very high for that day. I'll still try to edit it down to less than 200 shots but I can be pretty harsh when rejecting photos - not for technical reasons so much as the emotions and expressions just aren't in the shot.
 
I shot 300 and gave them 185 to choose from.
They were supposed to be choosing 40 large and 40 small for their album................but they loved so many that they are choosing 70 large and 60 small and paying for the extras! :thumbs:
 
I've only done two weddings so far, the first one I took over 600 shots, although only 150 made it to the proof stage, and the second wedding I took 399, and got down to 255 proofs - but then this was my sisters wedding so I didn't mind.
 
Back in the day we (2 togs) would should around 500 shots. We would try and restrict the proofs to between 100-120 ish if we could, though this would depend on the level of wedding we did - I think the largest proof was around 180 irc.
 
I usually shoot 2-3K shots, show the clients around 4-500 images.

yup the 400 proofs was unusual . we probably average about 200 proofs. between 30 and 80 shots go in the album , dependant on package purchased,album or photobook etc.
weve found that large proof books are an advantage tous.we have the proof book back , but let the client keep it if they spend x amount on reprints.we often get a lot of reprints.
as janice has found, clients will often upgrade their package by a fair amount when they see the proofs because they like them so much they cant decide on just 30 to use in the album.
we discard a fair few for the same reson aspxl8.plus theres always a fair amount of posed shots where we take two or three of the same shot. theres always some burger who closes his eyes or looks at uncle arthur with his box brownie .
again wow wedding hack.how do your clients pick their stuff. ?
 
I would normaly take around 150-200 and full day and night coverage around 600.
 
I proof online, like this - no paper proofs. An objective this winter is to get a proper shopping cart setup ...
 
cool. we do put the proofs online too, with password protection so families can see em. we sell prints online too.i,ll ask the gaffer who she uses cos i cant remember.
order online and pay by paypal. the company we use print and post for pence per shot plus £3 postage then bill us direct.a sister of the bride who lives the other side of the country just ordered £200 plus of prints online , and wouldnt have seen the proofbook otherwise.we also sell direct too obviously.
do you actualy do albums? or images on disc?

Duncan, some stunning shots there, it looks like it was a good day. I presume the groom is a helicopter pilot, the shot of the B & G with the helicopter above is superb.
 
It was a great day, shame it was so overcast. The groom trains Apache pilots for the Army, hence the flypast at the taxpayers expense !
