Wedding Albums

Oh sorry, am I meant to agree with everyone?

I do not agree with Zoe's post on the previous page in which Zoe implies that most people are inept at album design. Came pretty naturally to me, having been there and taken the photographs, so I don't see what all the fuss is about, and think the tone of Zoe's post is a tad elitist (unnecessarily so).

Does the longer response above meet with your approval or am I still getting the thumbs down for having an opinion?

:agree:

I wonder what your perspective will be after you have designed your first album :D - if you want to compare yours against one of mine after you've done it I'll happily send you a pdf of an album so that you can understand better what I mean about it being a skill in itself, and you'll also see how I shot the wedding for the album because of how the images flow together.

I feel the subject for another blog of yours coming on ;)

ETA: perhaps the sarcasm didn't come across in my original post

Possibly correct but the whole point of these forums are to educate those who don't know, you have SWPP and the likes for 'pro' exclusivity.

Many members want to learn about workflows etc, not meaning that they want to become a pro.

Some people can't even wire a 3 pin plug so how can you expect everyone to design a wedding album.

Happy shootin'.

What an entertaining thread.

I use a Colorworld since their lab is local to me and they are excellent but you can't go wrong with Loxley.

On a side note, I'm interested to know how you guys shoot for the album. In my experience, the brides very seldom select the shots I expect them to! I find the skill in building a standout album comes once the shots selections are given back to you. Nothing to do with the shooting on the day...

Perhaps that works for you but I find that shooting lots of detail shots usually ends up as a page in the album of bridal prep plus a page of things like flowers and cake details, shots of the room dressed fo the reception. There's three album pages right there.

Then there are things like a recent wedding I shot a whole sequence of them coming down a red carpet with the guests showering them with confetti. 4 of those ended up in the album as a sequence. I also had the kids running towards the camera with the groom and best man. That also made a 4 shot sequence. When you put together little sequences like that it makes it harder for them to leave out of the album and makes for a bigger album too :)

It's called upselling ;)

I agree with all of that :)

Going back to the OP, it's not clear to me whether the question relates to an off-the-shelf album or a custom one - hopefully that will become clear later.

If it's a custom one, and the OP's first wedding, I would suggest it's better to concentrate on doing the photography justice, THEN put the album together, rather than looking through the viewfinder and thinking about page layouts.

Thirded!

The OP obviously just wants some direction in the best places to get an album. At the end of the day nobody knows what level they are at and I don’t think anyone has the right to assume that they aren’t capable of putting a great album together.

I do find that sometimes a lot of replies on here do sound quite elitist and could be enough to put someone who is new to the forum off coming back.

Maybe the original OP would like to elaborate on what kind of album they are looking for so responses can suggest the best place suitable.

Good luck to you.

No, this is the whole point of some of the members getting their knickers in a twist. Be a little more elaborate and you may find yourself a definitive answer.

Hope the forum can help.

Sorry i was at a wedding fayre last week and the photographer had hers set out in a Spicer Hallfield Album which looked absolutely stunning but as my friend has little money this is why she has asked me to photograph the wedding i know she will not have the money to pay out for one of these but i'm looking for a similar style or something basically that looks the part like

The trouble with Spicer Hallfield is (as I'm sure they'll be a rush to tell you) they went bust last year.

For a £100 budget, I'd be looking at one of the coffee table books, a really good blurb album for example.

A friend has asked me to do the photos for her wedding but wants them in a nice album but i dont no where to look for a really nice album has any one got any ideas thanks

Mario Acerboni  nice and simple slip in your prints.

Shame its taken a couple of pages to get a straight answer but thats the way things go these days on this forum regarding weddings :shake:

Well it must have been an old album Marie, Spicers went bust over a year ago!

The best alternatives I've seen to the Spicers albums are MTA, you can buy them in Calumet stores. You need to do the album design in photoshop and have the prints done to the right size and stick them in the album (it's self adhesive) They are around £80 to buy and the prints are about £12-£20 for a 20 page book.

That's actually quite cheap for a wedding album. :)

And once we got a simple question then what happened to the replies Dave?

Yes there are others but thats the one I suggested :D

The question seemed simple enough to me

seems like some are just up for a fight

As much as I love the Loxley products and the ROES interface, I also find the Sim2000imaging albums very lovely and their software very intuitive and their customer service second to none. The fact that they are on my doorstep is an added bonus!

Sim2000 and LDP (loxley's) is the same software I'm sure. I use ldp to design loxleys albums

Some of the Spicers team now work for Colorworld, making the same albums rebranded...
