Wedding Togs:

Where do you get your albums from and how much do you pay for them / charge clients for them?

I'm keen to hear from people that have used the services and what they thought of them, too many cowboys on google!

Cheers
-Rob

I use Loxley Colour based in Glasgow for most of mine and am about to start using SIM2000 as well, although there are many others. As to prices it depends what you want - size, pages, finish etc all have an impact on the cost of an album. Your best bet is to register with them and go through their offerings.

Graphistudio are probably the most 'famous' but they have an incomprehensible ordering and pricing structure and because of that I haven't bothered with them - I have also seen some QC issues with their products.

Thanks for the info Hacker - Much appreciated.

I've just signed up with Circa London. I don't know what they are like yet as I have received my sample albums, but so far the service has been great and the swatches they sent through to me are impressive. When you are an affiliate photographer to them you get discount on the albums, and if you want some for display you get a further 40% off three of them, prices aren't bad either. It's worth a look I think. I'll let you know what I think of the albums.

Thanks Aimee, Circa sound good too, I'd really like to know what you think of their albums :-)

I've received my circa books and they are beautiful! Especially the Akron one, it's a really fat hefty album, strong and looks expensive! :) I'd recommend signing up and ordering that one as a sample with the swatches just so you can have a look. It'll cost you about £50 and if you don't like it, you can always use that one album as a portfolio album for portraits (or flogg it!)

Circa quality is superb, cant go wrong there.

Ultimately it depends what you are charging. There's a need to build it into your quotes/pricing or you'll end up paying for them yourself! Been there, got the t-shirt...

Good luck anyway.

are these Cerca books printed or do you need to get the photos printed serperatly and add them in?

On the form it has a bit for 'Professional Membership' what do you put in there?
I'm looking at starting up sometime at he beginning of next year and am doing research at the mo. I know you can't join the AOP until you've been a pro for 2 years.. I've already got a price list and catalogue off Spicer Hallfield (I went on their mailing list while I was at college years ago and have just updated my details)

Thanks, Rhys.

As far as I know the 'professional membership' is the part photographers sign up to once they have set up their business. Have you set up a website or anything yet? As long as they can see that you are trading (or planning on it), then you can buy samples. Otherwise I'd ring them for the swatches and say you are just setting up. Plus ask for the price list, you get 40% off their listed prices.

The books aren't printed, you have to buy them seperately from whoever you prefer!

Ah, thanks. I've got a basic shell of a website up but no galleries etc. as of yet. Need to pull my finger out and get something done.

I did sign up for 'motivation classes' but couldn't bothered going in the end :coat:

And how do we sign up for the 'Professional Membership' once we have setup the business?

Just go onto the photographers page on the website, click that you want to be sent information, fill in the online form and they will send you the info you need. That simple. From there you become an 'affiliate' and have access to their traders discounts etc.

I'm no expert on them yet, only just signed up myself. So I'd recommend signing up and judging them for yourself!
