Website with cart - non photography

Not sure if his is in the right place or not.. Mods please move if not..

Basically, a friend locally as just opened there own little shop within a shop, just selling vape products etc.

I have been doing some product shots for them for flyers and stuff in the shop. but he knows want to get a website up to advertise a bit more and attract online sales..

I have only ever set up a zenfolio page for someone previous. and do some website updating for the school i work in. (this was already set up though and sorted) i just upload a a few PDFs to newsletter page and some photo on events via adobe contribute.

So I'm looking for advice to help him, what do people recommend that we can use that is cost effective with a shopping cart, only wants a basic site, few drop down sections with products the people can buy and pay via paypal i think he would prefer

Woocommerce on a wordpress based site - but in it's basic free form it is pretty limited, and costs can spiral quite rapidly the more functionality you want to add.

It's a very powerful, full featured e-commerce platform which is very easy to set up. And it's an absolute bargain. I used it to get LensesForHire off the ground and I'd still be using it today if I'd been able to find a way of shoe-horning the essential functionality for hiring (basically, the management of date-dependent availability) into a platform designed for selling.
