Hey guys and gals,

I have put my website up for people to look at and review so that I can make it better...

the website is currently NOT FINISHED! The website will be up for a short time so people can review it.

The blog page isn't live currently as this is a wordpress blog and my server has issues with it. A new server is being looked at, that will allow me to use it.

Also there is no content on some of the pages as im being a bit lazy...

Thanks in advance!

Hi mate, Like the compact nature of the site, , but I'd get rid of the background it cheapens everything. Once that's gone drop the opacities of the shadowing on the fonts it will make it look much cleaner. overall though not bad :).

Also I'd look at highslide instead of light boxes, woks very similar but it auto sizes to the viewers window (even iPhones ect).

Make about me before portfolio :) add a contact page also! :)

Hope this helps.

Hi Mathew. My thoughts are: lt looks quite clean and easy to read. Thats a funky font for your logo and nav. I'd suggest that you could simplify the nav by using a more standard font and using semantic mark up. It is possible to use @fontface and have the font on your server (as long as its available) which works in a good number of browsers. That way, you can have drop shadow on the text and do away with using images. Just a thought.

hmmm it's different but not sure I like it too much or not......

the logo is too in your face - too dominant and crushes everything up.

not convinced either way on the squashed up links via the pics.... just looks a bit odd......

lastly, I know it's not finished but you may want to consider the grammar on the "about" section...

Only a couple of minors - but if I were to hire you I would expect the attention to detail...

Hi matthew..I like your site, colours are muted and I like that, my gripe is logo and fonts are too big and bold!

Thanks for the constructively critical comments!

I took a look at highslide and I have started to change over to this.

I agree that the background can look a little strange. But I want a slightly textured background instead of having a flat white.

I tried having the links as text but none of the standard texts matched my logo. I will have a look at the suggestion you made as I want to try and keep the text.

I think that I will probably downsize the logo a little but it has to be the same width as the main content of the portfolio and the about pages as I want the logo easily advisable and to be easily noticed.

The about section was a quick bit of text put in, Just to get an idea on what it might look at it... But this is a first review so hopefully all the details will be perfect in the end ;)

bottom of every page.... copright ... should be copyright :)

Okay, I have added a new texture onto the home page. It is the herringbone but with the opacity put down to 30%. I also took the gradient out at the top...

How does it look?

Can't see anything different. Get rid of the drop shadow on the 'text' content though.

There is a very light herringbone background design instead of the speckly, noise sort of background on the first/ home page.

I will try it without the drop shadow but it might look out of place as everything has a drop shadow on it... I wanted it all to look like it was hovering off the background.

A new version of my about page has been put up. Haven't changed the text but I have put up a email contact form within the envelope image

If people could send me a few messages through the contact form would be great as I have just been sending them to myself so far...

Sorry Mathew, I think its worse, not better. Loathe the bg image and that combined with the dropshadow makes my eyes go funny! Not for me.

Okay, well I dont want that to happen...

Have you got any suggestions on the background? I am going to try a striped version as well

Hi Mathew. I don't go for patterned background where you have text. However, if there was a wrapper for your content that you could make narrower than the browser window, you could fill the <body> element with a background image so you get some variation. That doesn't seem to exist within the template you have used.

I did a screen shot of what I got just now, double-text going on with your navigation?

Oh, and the email address doesn't work as a link. In any case, you have now put your email address in plain text for the spambots to harvest - there are ways to fend them off!

Here's a link to a typical web template that has a background image but keeps the text on a plain background as well.

You could try this approach.

Hey Carol,

I have gone back to the orginal background but made it a little lighter which seams to work.

There is double text as I have just changed from pictures to text. just refresh the browser and it should get rid of it.

There is also a new about page up now. www.teaguephotography.co.uk/About.php

This has a little letter button which brings a contact for up. See what you think :)

Thanks for the good feedback though! everything helps as this will hopefully get it near perfect :)

Okay, the Logo has been made 10% smaller and the shadow has been taken off. The text shadow on the text on the about page has also been taken off.

It also now reads copyright instead of copright too :P

Hi Mathew. That's much easier on the eye! I would just say that given that your about page doesn't have that much content, its a shame you have to scroll to get to the contact link etc at the bottom (at least on my laptop). That could be solved by making the 'content' part wider, so the text columns could be wider and shorter. Just a small point. I also think a small amount of margin at the bottom would mean that the footerlinks aren't stuck right at the bottom of the browser window.

Well, the about section is going to fill up a bit. It was just a bit of place holder text I wrote. I am going to put a little more detail into it. Should fill up the rest of the space...

Read your comment through a second time and I have put some padding under the footer so it isnt slammed to the bottom when using a smaller screen resolution than 1920x1080...

That padding helps. Now just reduce the amount of space at the very top so your logo sits a bit closer to the top to save wasting real estate on the screen.

Good point. Haven't noticed that :) Hopefully I can sort out my new server and the blog very soon!

ohhh snap :D woops haha

I did have a twitter account but gave up on it... shall change that!
