I think I've managed to go as far as I can with my current theme, with some help and feedback from here I've chopped and changed it.

It currently stands like this www.jrjphoto.co.uk and I'm getting frustrated by the limited stuff I can do with the free themes, struggling to get it the way I want and with an unique punch!

So I think its about time I went for a premium paid theme, but there seems so many out there :help:

I'm currently looking at the avada theme on themeforest

Seems to tick all the boxes but everytime I'm almost happy to click the buy button I find something else I like :bonk:

I've also considered the Photocrati theme pack but at double the price of other themes I'm not sure whether its worth the extra?

What are peoples views/experiances? What are you using and how do you find it to use?

No its not! I think I'm back to favouring the photocrati themes, lot of monies though

Before you make that call, be sure to understand the way photocrati galleries work

Photocrati displays your images, either in a gallery, or through a blog post via a javascript application. If you chance your theme at any point in the future you'll have to change every image. Or if a viewer doesn't use java script they wont display. Support is awful too.

Excellent thank you that's the kind of feedback I'm after.

Only you will really know what you want. I've bought a lot of themes for various projects and I always tend to shy away from anything corporate looking, as it's really not my style.

A few things that are fairly critical and I always look for:

Responsive design (I.e look of website changes based on browser width) - take a look at my site on a desktop/laptop, then tablet, then mobile or simply resize your browser on your main computer and you'll see howthe site changes its look, to optimise itself to the device people are viewing on.

Good support
Seo friendly

Personal and current preferences due to current trends:

One page site
Parallax scrolling

It sounds like you have an idea of how Wordpress works, so get an idea of how you want the format of your site to look and then find a theme that fits that - the format can usually be changed slightly depending on how creative you are with using Wordpress, but can often involve changes to the code, which if you're not comfortable with, is even more important you find a site that is formatted the way you want (nav bar in the desired place etc). Things like font styles, sizes, and theme colours can easily be changed through theme options and plugins.

It's also worth seeing if the theme comes with demo content as this will allow you to easily replicate the format and style of the example site, then it's just a case of adding your own photos and words.

If you're not sure what can be changed without touching the code, ask the theme author before buying to find out.

I always think Codestag does some great themes, so take a look - Proxy in particular http://themeforest.net/collections/3037659-wordpress-themes

Have a look at the latest Rocket Theme wordpress templates. They do one a month and the last four or five have been responsive ones as Ben recommends above.

I've got Avada running my site - link in the sig, if you want a look at a live implementation. It's just my personal site so picked a theme I liked the look of rather than needing to be more cutting edge or commercial.

If you go down that route I've been really impressed with how easy the theme was to work with for a relative novice, I had to amend a few files to get the functionality I wanted but their support was very helpful.
