Can anyone recommend an online speed test for website download times?

Also any idea of what download times I should be aiming for?

Ive found a few but they all seem to come up with different results, and some I just can't understand at all

Thanks

Speedtest.net will give you your Internet speed

Download speeds will depend on this plus available bandwidth to the download source

I think google analytics has some website load metricy thingummy in it. I'm assuming that would show load times for all visitors.

Your site seems pretty quick to load. Tried it just now!

Sorry I meant the speed my site takes to load on different browsers. As in potential customers not being put off due to waiting too long for site to load. :)

The GT metrix thing must be running on a 286. It takes 10x times as long to load my page as google analytics says! The load times I experience are the same as google says but nowhere near what GT metrix says.

Page load time of 23 seconds for a site that loads on my clunky old laptop in 2? Think they've messed something up!

Hmm similar issue here, maybe because it does the test in Canada? I made the changes it suggested and it has improved the score in their site. Though on another speed test site (Pingdom Tolls) its made it slower that it was previously:shrug:

It is not the speed that you need to look at in terms or seconds, I think that is how long it took to analyse, it is the rating it gives you and the information on improving your site. :)
