Hi,

I've decided to take the plunge and have a go at building my own site. A friend recommends Joomla so have uploaded to my new domain.

Has anyone a few examples of sites built from Joomla? Is it possible to have a password protected area for client viewing and maybe a paypal option for payment?

It's going to take me several months to get my head round this lot but that's all part of the fun. Any other tips and tricks is always welcome,

Hi,
I use Joomla a lot, especially for sites that I know will need regular updates or when I want to be able to add new content quickly and easily, but so far I have not used it for a photo site.
Passworded area - in the global config > system menu set the option that allows user registration. Then you can put a login module on the homepage so users can actually log in. After that you can have a menu that is only visible to registered users after they have logged in - on that put the pages (articles) that are only for them.
Have a look at some of the commercial templates that are available, including the free ones, they will save you a lot of time and help with page layouts.
Get your head around some of the concepts - articles, sections, categories, module positions and you're well on your way. Try different editors - some are much better than the standard one, use xmap to submit a google sitemap, take a look at the Jumi module for adding Javascript too. There are really good Joomla forums out there, you'll solve most issues with a bit of searching

Hi there
I am interested in incorporating a 'client area' into my basic Dreameaver designed HTML website for customers to proof their shots. Can anyone recommend software or an online subscription service that does this well? Ideally I'd like to keep a branded header or something to keep them within my site. Not sure about actual e-commerce as yet, just password-protected viewing would be a good start.
Hope someone can help.
