Following advice on here I have been going through my sites ensuring that there are some good descriptive alt tags for all my images to try and help my seo.

For info, I have two wordpress sites, both using the same theme.

Working on a new site I have just finished alt tagging (as well as changing the titles) all my images in my portfolio and then went to check the source code for the page, only to find that there alt tags are not being fulfilled!

This is the portfolio page of my events website
http://events.photographerinessex.com/essex-event-photographer-portfolio/

This is a snippet of the source code for that page for one image. The title has not been updated to what I set and nor has the alt tag.
<imgstyle="opacity:0;"src=""data-big="http://events.photographerinessex.c...15/02/Essex-Event-Photography-003-600x900.jpg"data-title="Essex Event Photography 003"data-description=""alt=""/>
</a>

And just to show I have actually updated the info, here is a screenshot for one of the portfolio images with the updated info.

Now this is a new site I only built last week. But my wedding site which has been going a while which I have been struggling with uses the same theme, so I went to go and check that one too.

Checking the source code for one of my portfolios there and there is even less info!

I assume this may go some way to explaining why I struggle to get my site to rank well, if it is full of images with no relevant descriptions!

Any idea how I force the changes I have made to the image info to actually translate through to the relevant pages where these images are used?
And while I am at it, if I can get to the bottom of this, is the description tag worth filling in too? I have only been advised about the alt tag in the past.

It's probably due to the wordpress theme you're using, is there a setting for it anywhere? Then again it could be an SEO plugin conflict, try disabling that and see what happens.

Thank you.

I can't see any settings anywhere. I have contacted the themes support and am awaiting a reply.

I have tried turning off all plugins which hasn't helped, though I have noticed that the image titles have updated, but the alt descriptions haven't. This was before I turned off the plugins.

I think you need someone familiar with the Galleria plugin, as it appears that's what you are using judging by the custom attributes for the img tag in the HTML snippets you have posted (I am not the someone you are looking for).

I am not using that plugin or any other for my galleries. Just what is included within my theme.

All fixed. It turns out the folio that my theme uses defaults to caption text rather than alt text. A little tweak to one of the .php files as instructed by the theme support guys and its all working. Keen to see if this has an effect now.

On a side to this, is there a quick and easy way of inputting alt text and the like in the images meta date before uploading it to wordpress, I do find the media library very clunky, especially when you are trying to find images uploaded a long time ago.
