I've had my website a little while now....and I've been using PixelPost.

It's got a nice clean layout and it's simple, but now I'm starting to get a more repsectable number of pictures up there, the simplicity is becoming a problem.

I'd really like a more full-featured gallery solution rather than a photoblog (and I really hate writing a sentence of blurb with every photo). I wouldn't mind having a paypal plugin and the ability for people to buy if they so wished....although not critical :)

I'm leaning towards wordpress at the moment....as it seems to have great theme and plugin support....any other bright ideas?

www.diffracture.co.uk is the current site :)

Chris, I've just started to create my own site using Gallery2, and I think it's an excellent solution. Early days, but - www.jtkphotography.co.uk

You can create private albums too, and there's also a PayPal plug-in.

I'm also considering Wordpress as a front end, with a link to the Gallery, but I'm not sure I really want to blog :)

I haven't used Gallery for a long time...looks a lot nicer than it used to! I'm thinking I might go for a combination of Wordpress and another gallery application. May start tinkering tonight, because pixelpost just isn't working for me at the moment.

I'd be interested in what you come up with. The only other gallery I'm aware of at the moment is Coppermine, but haven't tried it. I'll probably wait until I come unstuck with Gallery2 :)

I've opted for Wordpress and Gallery2 for now.

I'm in the process of hacking Gallery into wordpress seamlessly, a lot of faffing with stylesheets and changing code here and there....but it's getting there. Just lots of little style tweaks needed.

You can have a look at the work in progress. Gallery is only just integrated, I'm working on sorting the styles

Well, I just had to give Coppermine a try and there's one major flaw I can't find a work-around for. The albums are organised by categories and sub-categories, but you can't set group permissions on categories, only on albums. You can make an album private, but the category heading still shows to guest users.

Gallery2 works with albums and sub-albums, and permissions are inherited from the level above. This means that a guest user doesn't see any indication of private albums existing. This suits my plans perfectly.

Development has stopped for Gallery2 and Gallery3 is in Beta. I've tried this and it looks impressive, although a long way from being finished. At least there's a future :)

I've managed to get a half-decent theme on my wordpress site, and have Gallery just about playing ball.

The biggest problem I've found is finding a wordpress theme that has been coded properly. The stylesheets are a total mess for most of them.

Gallery is pretty ugly mind, even if the architecture and plugins are quite powerful. I'm going to do my best to shoehorn Gallery2 into the wordpress template styles and see what happens tomorrow :)

Had a look at nexgen, but decided I wanted the power of the Gallery2 architecture and plugins behind it. WPG2 does a great job of integrating the workings of the system into wordpress, but integrating the styles is a proper slog.

This is where I'm at now, pretty much got the album pages down, but still need to sort the photo viewing page, and then figure out how the checkout plugin all works.

Chris, I've been watching this with interest, and I really like what you're doing with your website. The theme is very nice and I'm becoming even more tempted to try Wordpress myself, but still feel I want to keep the Gallery separate, but with the same look to it.
