Been looking to change my website, and been looking at the Bludomain sites as one option. I know they've been talked about over here quite a lot - with some raving about how good they are, others not so impressed by them.

Anyways - they have reduced their $400 sites to $100 for the whole of July.

So for anyone looking to get a new site - this sounds like a good move.
Suppose the only downside I can see to this is the fact that many people will decide to get a Bludomain site, and this will make the waiting time for your new site a little longer...

They did this at Christmas, special offer kinda deal, I got a $400 site for $200.

Great sites, so easy to update, it took around 2-3 days to get up and running due to the time zones. Customer service was blunt and to the point each time.

One thing I will say in a negative is the falling of the face of google since being with them, I'm not entirely sure about it all but it happened 2 months ago.

Sorry Tomas forgive my ignorance but what do you mean? Iv'e been waiting for them to come up with a special offer for weeks and was about to take the plunge, until I read your post.

No bother at all Sir.

In a nutshell, pre December 2008 I had made my own flash site with a HTML index page, I had been using this for one year and turned up in first position after searching my name 'Tomas Whitehouse' or 'Tomas Whitehouse Photography'.

I switched to Bludomain as I haven't the time to maintain my own site from scratch, I need a very speedy maintenance and updating routine that coincidentally Blu offered.

Around 2 months ago, the above searches no longer lead to my website, you have to type in the exact address in a search to find my site. In other words, useless.
My blog and my facebook page are the only addresses leading to my site on any google searches, so visitors can still find it but it's not exactly the conventional route.

The Google 'contributors' at the help forum were disgusted that anyone would use a website that forced folk to disable any pop up blockers (Blu format) and blamed my disappearance on the flash content. They were my worst experience on a forum to date, aggressive, abusive and outright rude.

Two other members here have Blu sites and don't have this problem though so I can't be certain of this conclusion.

Although Colin (Hacker) did disappear for a short while and then came back again. There was also a wedding tog in the States that experienced the same thing but he too came back.
No one seems to have experienced the amount of time that I have so far though. 2 + months is too long.

What I do know is that if the Blu site were to blame it requires some weighty knowledge in web creation/editing to fix.

I'll leave you to make up your own mind though mate, the sites and ergonomics are wonderful but this is a problem that I have not been able to solve, pinpoint or remedy in anyway as yet.

Gee Tomas thanks for the in-depth reply. Blimey if you think your a dunce on these matters as you suggest in your linked post, I don't know what that makes me

It's very odd that others don't appear to have the same problem. I do like the templates they offer over those of say ClikPic, Photium etc., that sold for me but don't like the prospect of going through what you have experienced.

The deal of $400 templates for $100 is appealing (plus of course the hosting fee).

Do you think it's worth the gamble? I am totally useless at understanding how to put these things together, is it straightforward? Sorry for all these questions.

Regards

Geoff

No problem mate, for 100 bucks it maybe worth it, especially if you are going to host with Blu, I host with fasthosts and this could also be the problem  I just find it strange that everything was okay for five months and then kaput.

The set up is very straight forward and easy, bare in mind though that if you need assistance with them the earliest they will contact you or answer your questions is 24 hours.

Right now, I'm looking into having a new site designed for me with a shopping cart and print ordering department. I dread to think how much that is going to cost :'(

Thanks Tomas and good luck with your plans. Just one more thing, having looked at the the $400 templates they have on offer versus the $100 jobs I think I prefer the look of some of the cheaper ones, they IMO are a little bit more clean looking. I think think the $400 ones look a bit cheesy/OTT.

What's are the major differences between the two?

I'm not too sure mate, most likely the addition of shopping carts and more to date ergonomics and mechanics

I'm with you though, the cheaper ones look better

Some of the $100 templates offer shopping carts but I'm still not sure. On the basis that I don't particularly like the $400 I'm not going to rush into this even if the offer does close end of the month.
Thanks once again.

The Blu shopping cart is pretty poor TBH ......
