Hi Everyone

Our site has had a bit of a change recently and we still have so much more to do it but as we do most of it ourselves time is always an issue.

But I just wanted some feedback as to what people like or dont like about the site and any suggestions they may have.

We have lots of ideas ourselves so it would be good to get customers points of view so that we can make it a better site.

www.digitaldepotuk.com

Thanks

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Having had a quick look i much prefer the new layout with the menu running along the side rather than the top

Looks more "professional" and feels nicer to use :)

Hi Stuart,

The site is much better than before, There are a couple of pricing issues which are not clear on the front pages eg lightroom in accessories show he upgrade price not the full price until ordering.

Thanks Graham, we used to have one product showing the lowest price and it wasnt unitl you go in to it and select the different options that it changes. We are in the process of splitting them so each one is an individual product.

Thanks for the feedback so far....keep it coming ;)

It doesnt appear to list the D700 at £449 or have the 24-70 for £399

Aside from that, looking good.

Can't see much wrong with it, overall pretty good !!

I think I would go out of business very quickly if the D700 was at that price ;)

What do you think other websites offer that make you want to buy from them?

Amazon is one of the biggest selling websites in the UK and I think 1 in 5 internet orders placed is with them.

Im really looking to increase my web business this year as our shop is always busy so the web is my next project.

Is it price? Service? ease of use? im just interested to see why people order from certain sites and what we can do to encourage people to buy online from us.

I would say price closely followed by confidence in the seller should anything should go wrong.
Admittedly the latter can only be built up in time not by any website design, but you can state a straightforward return policy

Reliability and price of postage would also play their part along with up to date stock levels and good availability of goods
Perhaps packaging is also worth a mention too, not much use if a box of rattling glass turns up

Must be lots of other things, but the above spring readily to mind

Good luck, can't be easy to get these things right and no doubt takes a lot of time and effort

Amazon is easy - I can add a book, dvd, home stuff in one order.

For tog stuff I would use camera pricebuster. I dont buy just on price but am not going to pay what I deem over the odds. I bought my 50mm 1,4 from Jessops as they were cheapest and also I was passing one (and you were out of stock). Had they been £20 more I would still have bought there as it was the convenience factor.

From an online point of view, Warehouse Express imo are leaders, partly as they have virtually everything you can think of! Their (and your) site is easy to use and nice to use, unlike Campkins who are local to me (and also will not allow you to pick up from store).

I would say getting your site onto google shopping and high on search engines is the best bet.

Hi Stuart

Just been looking at the new site, definately looks more user friendly than previous one and is easier to work round.

Well I'm on a work PC using IE6, so please have your pinch of salt handy! No idea how it performs in a non-jurassic browser..!

- "About Us" has an image missing (http://web.digitaldepotuk.com/storelogo.jpg) as I'm just showing a red cross in the top left above "Opening in Stevenage".

- The banner/header logo "Think photography, think digital depot" is half on blue, half on off-white along with the currency selector. I'd drop them down a few pixels, or make the text lighter and have them on the darker background. Could be browser related though.

- Click on "Privacy Info" and the page tries to open a /customerservice/ page then fails and falls back to /index.

- Using some of the left hand menus to open stuff for sale works fine. However the basket drops low down on the screen along with all the resulting right hand "bar" stuff. (does that make sense?)

- Lastly, the left hand (grey) product catalogue menu looks a bit incongruous to the blue/white colour combination you've got going. That's just me though!

All of this is a bit picky I guess... Please don't take offence!

Hi Stuart,

I think an improvement you could add, and gain an advantage over your competitors with, would be to show the insides of camera bags and cases with cameras and kit in them.

Many shops do not stock sufficient of them to allow comparison and many websites just have stock photographs of the outsides.

Not sure what the logistics involved in adding such photographs would be but there are many reviews in which people have been suprised by how large or small a camera bag is once they have bought it.

I am not in the industry but imagine these are items which get returned quite frequently because they do not suit the purchaser.

Best wishes,

Tracey

Really like the site, small thing, I think the Contact Us page could do with a little more meat on the bones.

Maybe a form to fill in?

Having been to the shop in Stevenage a couple of times I tried to find the digital depot website today via google. Couldnt find it at all as all other links take me to digitaldepot.co.uk which is shown as the web address linked to the shop address, but it has no content. It is only because of a TP search that I could find the correct web page.

I think price is quite key and that goes with service, if price cheap and service is rubbish you might get a peak for a while but once it gets around the internet you'd find it really hard to get your rep back.

But if you can be cheap or cheapest and provide a excellent service not only when selling but also when buying, returning and helping with repairs you'd be on a winner.

Everyone checks Camera Price Buster and for online purchases if your not cheapish more then likely someone else will get business.

What you'll notice and even big stores do this is online prices can be cheaper then instore and you could have a reserve and collect at store where maybe it's slightly cheaper if they do that then going in direct to store.

Hi Stuart, I tried finding your site through google the other day and it took more than one attempt. I think you should work on getting up the google rankings.

Stuart

for me it's a mixture:

  • Price
Knowing who the supplier is ( in this case having met you i don't have an issue with that)
Being able to look at the website then call you up fr advice (or PMs on here as recently)

Thanks for the info. Our site was down a few days this week and becuase we have swapped servers there are some google issues etc.

Im working on it. ;)

As for the inside of bag idea. i like it. If only i had a spare 10 minutes to take pictures ;)
