I have not been able to access the website for several days, first time back was this afternoon but there have been several posts over the last week. No issues with other sites. There is probably a post which covers this but I cannot find it.

There were a few times today when it was a bit slow but as can be seen from recent posts it has been up continuously

Thanks

Could it be my settings, which as far as I know have not been changed.

DOWN
It is not just you. The server is not responding...

Thanks

Can I email you as it has taken me 50 mins to access your reply. Something is not right. I am having problems accessing the site from my iPad, iPhone, mac and a pc.

Regards

I had a similar issue yesterday, seems okay this morning.

It probably isn’t your settings, numerous members have had similar problems on numerous occasions.
There was a post response about ‘bot attacks’ as a possible reason. Whatever, it’s not you.

Yup, same for me last night, but been sporadic over the last couple of weeks.

Looks like it was a widespread problem yesterday evening. The server was up and I could see it serving requests all evening and the fact that its back now with no intervention suggests that the problem was external to our server.

Was down for me yesterday as well. Same pattern as last time. Gets slower around late afternoon then is completely unusable during the evening.

There could be a capacity issue somewhere so some people are lucky and get on and the rest can't which is why you can see some normal activity. Does the server keep logs of the number of requests it can't do?

As I said above the server was fine, very light load. it seems to me that something is throttling connections on port 443

Thanks

I got that late last, too.

The site was not accessible for me last night too. It’s responding ok now.

@lindsay whats going on with the site?
seemed down all last eve for me.

I've had sporadic access over the last few days too. No access at all yesterday morning for a couple of hours.

Bloody gremlins . . . :wacky:

Sirch chris has been monitoring and tweaking things a lot to try to resolve the issue. The problems are not with TP itself, the site is being crawled by a ridiculous number of bots which is causing response times to become poor to impossible at times. It seems to be mostly between late afternoon and late evening, and our usual detect and destroy techniques are being thwarted by apparent misuse of kidnapped ip addresses or computers. Chris is using various techniques to fight it, sometimes successfully but sometimes only for a while.

Can you add stuff to the htaccess file to stop the bots?

Site was down for me most (not all) yesterday.
Hope that you can tame the bots. I guess they are harvesting for AI training use, etc.

Thank you Chris and the team, been smooth running here since Friday AM (y)

I couldn't access TP all day yesterday on my Mac. Most of the time I simply got "server not responding". Once I got through but it took 5+ minutes to only partly load. I managed to establish through off-site contact with 3 members that TP was up and working fine. It wouldn't work with either Safari or Firefox on my Mac, but it worked on my phone and the downstairs family Win10 box. I tried all sorts of things including turning Ghostery off, nothing worked. I rebooted twice, and also rebooted the router and the mesh node I was connected to. No joy.

Eventually last night I checked my Deco app for the second time, only this time I probed a bit deeper. There were multiple blocks of a "malicious site" since around 8 am. Yes, that site was TP! I don't know what caused it, but I was able to unblock the "malicious site" and TP sprang into action again.

I don't understand what caused it, nor do I understand why it only affected one of the two Deco M5 nodes (the Win10 box would definitely have been connected to the other Deco) I had wondered if the problem was connected to an issue when Safari suddenly died, losing all tabs, but I _think_ that was later in the day. It's quite annoying that Deco blocks the sites silently, simply telling me they were inaccessible.

Probing back and bit further, it blocked a few other sites, including a Hertz site which explains a problem I had trying to book a car with them, and also googlemail's IMAP site (which now appears to be working fine).

Anyway, all's well (ish) but I thought it worth reporting in case others get caught out.

I think as things have become more capable they have become more complex and prone to stupid faults. I have a website with code written in asp.net hosted on a windows server; I can access it fine on a Win11 laptop with Edge or Chrome, but using Safari or Chrome on my Mac doesn't work - too many redirects it says. Same problem with a Win10 laptop by some users. I can't help thinking that the MS infrastructure has been built in such a way as to make life difficult for anyone who doesn't comply with upgrading to latest versions. Likewise with the Google universe maybe.

As to TP, I've not had any problems lately on Win11 or Mac in respectively Edge and Safari.
