Hey all, looking at getting some feedback on my site. Does it flow? What would you change etc etc

Not looking at my images being ripped to pieces, that can be another time ;)

Just want some advice on the site layout and the written content.

Thanks!

dont know if its the compression, your style of photography, the host site or something else but all the images look like they have a hazy film over them

That would be my editing style. I like the Matt / hazy look :)

Yeah Iv been uploading 3000 width.. Going forward I'll go a lot smaller. Any recommendations?

Sorry Jack..but your editing style, i.e that hazy, gauze like finish does nothing to show off your photography to any thing like quality! apologies for the negativity

Hey robin, no need to apologies :) everyone's allowed their opinion. It's something I'm a fan of and my clients like also.

The about section is a bit pointless. I would rewrite it and centre around photography not your life. If I were looking for a photographer I couldn't give two hoots about your love of films and TV.

why not split the about/faq onto separate pages. I'd also write the about as a 'Why you want me to work for you' not just 'I love photography'

How about posting some without the instagramtastic haze? Not every photo needs to be PP within an inch of its life. You have some nice stuff on the site; most would look even better without the haze.

Yeah think I will split this up. Thanks for the input :)

Sat with friends and they have different views also on the about me. One couldn't careless and one said that was the big decider for them. I do think i need to rework it though :)

I like keeping the images and the gallery consistent. The preset Iv made I apply as soon as I import. For me this is how I'd want them from camera if that were possible. I know it's not for everyone but I know other photographers who have this approach also.

It is possible to have them like that from camera.

But from the sounds of it you don't need anyone's advice and already know best.

I'm open to advice, just don't agree with what you suggested :)

I'll have a look into getting it from camera though if that's possible.

I like the clean layout and keeps things pretty nippy.

A few major things I'd change though and although the editing is subjective, it still needs a bit of work:

Upload at 890px wide rather than let the website scale them.
Work on your black and white stuff. It's more purple at the moment.
Make the style consistent. It's different in most scenes.
Make the blog thumbnails larger.
Make testimonials and faq separate to the about page.
Remove that right click copyright thing. It's no good to anyone and it makes me want to leave the site.
"Speak pictures, wedding stories told by Project Valentine." Not even sure that makes sense.
Larger social icons

Thanks Ben,

Will try have a tweet today with some of these.

Some of the stuff I can't change as it's a format.com template but I will email them to see if they can custom code some stuff for me :) they've been pretty helpful in the past with that.

What is it you mean with 'keep your style consistent. It's different in most scenes'

I know some of the galleries are edited differently. Over time it have developed my preset to find the one I'm happy with. Iv used this on the last 4 and will use it going forward.

Thanks again :)

I suggest look at the positive side made some good changes as suggested and keeping them online is the best thing you are doing.

No problem.

Yeah, you may be limited with the format options. They're only improvements though, so if you can't change them it won't be a major issue.

I mean that even though your preset may be the same, it doesn't apply itself so well to different situations. It's better to have a few presets that may be slightly different, but apply themselves well to certain scenes whilst still in keeping with the rest of the set. Your outdoors stuff is much better than the indoors.

Can I just confirm that you have a preset that you apply to every photo you import?

Yeah I get what you mean now :) I'll have a play in LR to see if I can get it to work better indoors. I think it's the bulbs that throw it off.

I remove the shots I don't want then apply to all before going back and working on each picture to correct w/b, exposure etc

Surely it should be WB and exposure then apply preset on export? Otherwise you're adding a layer of inconsistency to an inconsistent product?

I'm still amazed you apply the same preset to each photo.

Why wouldn't it? How can you set a wb once you've added a tint? Wouldn't LR want to correct the tint?

I'm a LR noob, to me it seems you should always correct before you add anything.

When I change the white balance or anything else and then press my preset it puts it back to how it was shot then I have to do it again... maybe I need to look into the preset settings.

My preset is more based on the tone curve altering to make it more matt.

Here's a before and after from yesterdays wedding.. obviously with white balance changed.

I had a quick look before nipping out and spotted a couple of things:

On the packages page, bottom line is "Not getting married? If you still fancy a couples soon then simply get in touch!" I think 'soon' should be shoot. Can I suggest you either link the get in touch to the contact us page, or add a mailto: link to it.

On the contact us page, make your email address clickable so people don't have to copy and paste it.
