Hi guys, can you give me your thoughts, comments and critique on my site please.

TheSnappingBishop.co.uk (Domain is not yet Live)

Note; Only a few of the images on the home page piccy graphic link though...the flower ones do...so does the WestHam stadium one ...few others too..

TheSnappingBishop.co.uk/blog

This site is intended to be a sales point for my images ...A gallery to show my work ... and a blog for me, so as to write a diary of my togging, things I find interesting, a London based wandering blog kind thing.

Spelling, Grammar, does it all make sense...?

Notes:
1. Please ignore the order page ... that'll be finished when i populate the database behind it with prices and suchlike.
2. ... also excuse the bull**** on the 'about page' still deciding how to be honest whilst bull****ting at the same time. :D
3. Please ignore the few IE spacing differences between browsers... being sorted with some IE specific code that is.

My main questions for you guys are ...

1. Suggestions for suitable names for albums ... How would you categorize my shots. ...?? Landscape, etc ...doesn't seem to fit well, thought please.

2. Coding/graphic question ...How do I do a transparent background so the crappy edges on small letters and suchlike don't ruin the graphic. (FF is ok at getting it neat, IE is crap at it..? (I'm referring to the small SnappingBishop Graphic at the bottom left of each page) .. this is a gif with index transparency ... but I don't think I'm doing it right. ..?

3. What else should I be doing with my blog ... how does this blogging stuff go down .. Really not sure which, what, or even why ...
How does this blogging thing expand.. your experiences please.

4. Please let me know if images you see in the Limited edition albums really should be in stock ...or possibly visa versa. :D

...better stop with the questions.

Thanks everyone. :)

Wow, looks like you have been working hard since the last 'release' Adam.

I like the whole site generally, its easy on the eye, professional, easy to navigate and the images are top notch.

More specifically - the home page is maybe a little busy for my personal taste, though loving the idea, I would perhaps have gone for maybe 4 or 5 less pictures in the splash.

In the limited editions [seeing as you asked], I think I might have put the two redbull flying shots into stock, and sea fishing into LE, but I think that is personal choice, you know your images and their market better then anyone.

As for the logo thing, not sure if it works, but I was once told that applying a matte the same colour as the page background can solve smoothing difficulties, but I am not sure, needs a better web developer then me to really help with that one.

The blog...totaly in the dark, I don't have one myself and rarely read others, so not sure what shuld be in there, but it looks ok to my untrained eye

I didnt notice any typos, but as I am one of those people that skim reads, and gets other people to proof read my own stuff, I am probably not the best person for that anyway

Overall, I am totally impressed, a professional looking website, best of luck with it

Thanks Yvonne, good stuff in that lot ... That redbull shot (eightG) is one of my all times faves. :( ... ... I know, its all personal eh.

Good tip on the transparency thing, I read something like that before, not quite sure how to do it mind " ... applying a matte the same colour as the background"... Ok, I'll look it up, no worries.

:)

The problem with your logo is that it's been anti-aliased to the background colour (white) but the gif trans. is only removing the white which leaves all the lighter grey shades intact giving it the nasty edges.

Is the logo being used against different colours? If not the easy solution is just to make it again but this time against the final background colour. I'd also consider giving it a small soft drop shadow to help lift it from the background.

Pxl8; Yeah, it does appear against different colours as the pages move etc ... hmm, maybe I should just make it a solid dark grey/black instead ...

Yvonne... I'll look for that tab in my older PS ... I tend to use Machro Fireworks to build these bits, it has more options generally (If only i knew how to use them. ;)) ... I look into it.

Ta guys.

If you're using against different colours then you need to redraw it without the anti-aliasing so there's no smoothing between the letters and the background colour. Then the transparency won't have fluffy looking edges

You could use a transparent .png file but IE doesn't support them so it would look wrong for most people unfortunately.

Bounce :)

Sorted that logo now, I followed both of your suggestions, and overall I found Fireworks did the job, seems to have slightly better sharpening tools at the save stage than PS did...

Had to make it darker to work mind, removing all the white which caused most of the problem I found.

Original PNG here if anyones fancies improving on it. 50 px high.

Any other opinion?
