Okay my skills on web design are very poor so I opted for the free built on design kind of site....please let me know your thought so far...(The only picture I have taken are under the Studio section)

http://www.wix.com/danblac8/daniel-black-photography

Note this is just to publish my photos & me...selling and applying this to a business model would come much later on and from another kind of site....

many thanks

Dan.

Hi Dan, looks good so far, I'm building one myself so understand how difficult is can be as a non techy type of person.

One comment though, you email address on the contact page contains upper and lower case letters, is this correct.

I like it. As a first freebie site it works well and is simple to navigate. It's not obvious how to access enlarged images or how to scroll through them, but the general feel is good to me.

(Email addresses - and website addresses - can be shown in any case, they'll still work. The general etiquette for email adress has been to use all lowercase, but it makes the different elements stand out if you use capitals for the name. What you don't want is ALL CAPITALS as it looks like you're shouting.)

Good call....I can add some kind of text or note to resolve this.

Flash sites aren't good. Don't get me wrong they look good, as this does but why do you get a website? Most people:

1. Get a webiste -> 2. Attract People to it -> 3. Get your work noticed/ attract customers/ make money

The problem with a 'Flash' based site like yours is step 2. Search engines can't Index the content in Flash sites and it is very difficult to get people coming on the website, is this not the point of getting a website?

For me its like opening a shop in a back lane that no one walks down, the only people that will come is people who know where it is. What would be the point?

Hi Tpd,

I kind of agree...but I would also say most retail shops use flash content nowadays, so would they not shy away from this?..... as any kind of impact on sales/distribution would not be acceptable....I could be wrong as I’m no expert in web development.

Yes Flash is used by many websites for a range of functions by many top webistes and retailers. The difference is they design they design their site in HTML (or a programming language) add their content, images and text and use Flash as part of it when a function cannot be performed by a standard programming language. You would be hard pushed to find a site designed fully in Flash and performs well in searches.

Not wishing to be contradictory, and knowing nothing at all about Wix.com, but the site does seem to be constructed with HTML Meta tags, which the search engines should pick up.

Having said that these Meta tags should contain your keywords - i.e. those words other people will use when searching for your site. It's not those that know who you are that you wish to attract - it's those looking for a photographer in your area.

The background code reads,

I'm guessing that you have some control over the Keywords and Description tags. Use the Keywords tag for, er, Keywords. Then scatter those Keywords into a sentence or two for the Description and Title, with your most important Keywords at the start of the sentence.

All Flash webiste will have the meta data, Google and most other search engines do not use these in search results though (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/keywords-meta-tag-in-web-search/ < Works at Google as a software Engineer) and haven't for years

The most important factor is the keywords in the content and the density of these keywords. The code above is all that Google will see, it will use the description and title but that is all, none of the content on the website will be indexed as it is invisible as the code you posted shows.

youve lost anyone browsing from an ipad (for example) already.. and no not all retailers use flash, and those that do usually have an HTML content alternative.

This

People defending flash will always cite some popular site that uses flash, in isolation that's ok, but it ignores.

There will always be non flash alternative content

The site has plenty of other seo important aspects, visitor numbers, back links etc.

I know from experience ( 3 years of a flash site) that in 2 years of flash only I had no google ranking to speak of. 3 months of Wordpress got me onto page 2 and a total change to wordpress got me well to the top of p1.

If its a hobby site then the seo isn't important, but of you have a real ambition to go somewhere with this you need to consider seo as the most important point of a site.
