Finally got round to building my website, I was going to get a web developer at work to do it but last night I found clikpic.com and decided to try their trial version just to see how easy it was. I started at 10.30pm with the intention of spending about an hour doing it as I'm not a techie but by 2.30am :shake: the site was 90% completed.

The style I picked was exactly what I wanted and it is easy to configure the various pages including Paypal payments, again another feature I wanted.

I've arranged for my domain to point at it but it will probably take a few hours so in the meantime I'd be grateful if you could have a look through and give me your thoughts and critique, even though it is still in development.

My site

Colin.

Looks good Colin ... and if it is precisely what you were after you can't complain can you ? Exudes quality in the style you have chosen.

Some nice shots too ... look forward to the additions and bookmarked it accordingly. Obviously you need more horsey stuff for your equine site ! ;)

Extremely easy to navigate but ... on my Tosh the text is tiny and quite difficult to read ? May just be me though ... where's that new lappy ... ?

looks ok to me, clean and simple. Not 100% sure i like the colours though!

what software is it, or is it something that you created all by yourself from various scripts around the net

Matty, when you say the colours what do you mean, the black background or the blue writing?

Or is it the colour in my pics. :'(

For me Colin the blue is quite difficult to read on the black ... especially as the text is so tiny !

Pics look OK to me ... are you able to add frames with this provider ? It would make a vast difference and you could maybe then add your own text/copyright notice to each too ?

Only my thoughts m8 !

A lot of the images do have a watermark on them and anything I upload for sale will have a bright orange watermark across the middle, I'm still playing with that to get it right.

The text is small, might see if I can change it.

I deliberately haven't read any other comments before posting mine to give an unbiased opinion.

I found the site easy on the eye and easy to navigate.
I like the style and feel and it looks polished and professional.

The text is a little small but that font size is commonly used by designers and if you make it much larger it you run the risk of the site looking more amateur.

Maybe change the colour of the blue links to one that contrast better with the black background.

The black background is a wise chose as through a trick of the eye it makes the colours in your images stand out.

You've optimised the site to also work at 800x600 which is great.
You might consider centering the pages instead of left aligning.

If I ever get round to rehashing mine, this is what I would want it to look like.

the blue text, other than that its fine. Clickpix...soo easy when you actually look for it..lol

Agreed - on a widescreen monitor it looks a bit odd. Otherwise I like it.

regards

I like it. It loooks clean, fresh, and is easy to navigate

I have no idea how to centre it but I've now increased the font size, had to be careful as I didn't want it to look amateurish as Bachs so rightly stated.

that works better!

As said, nice uncomplicated layout, simple, and clean - looks good to me:)

Text, along with everything else is spot on now Colin ... !

Looks great, as a matter of interest how are you going to implement the paypal options?

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I appreciate it.

Dod, clikpic is a really easy way to buld a website, everything is there that you could possibly need including the option of adding paypal capability. What I did was set up a paypal account specifically for this venture, then just fill in the relevant boxes when building the site. It also sets up a cart/basket, you input your prices and when ready to pay it re-directs you to the payment area at paypal (with your company name at the top). Try it on my site, just add a couple of items to the basket and follow the process to where you're about to pay (it would also help me out by testing it).

Seriously mate, it is so simple that I built the site in around four hours with just a bit of tweaking today, it would have been quicker but I wasn't taking it seriously for the first couple of hours and didn't RTFM. :bang:

If you register with them you can download the manual, and you also have a weeks free trial to build the site. I think I've been fortunate as the design I have is almost identical to what I had in mind and what my developer was going to build, and charge me £300 for.

works like a dream, I'm trying to integrate paypal into a Jalbum gallery just now and it's almost there but nowhere near as nice as that :bang:

I like it...........was it really easy to do?......fancy building one myself but I aint got a clue with things like this:thinking:

just had a quick look and found the first problem though. It allows up to 1000 pictures on the gallery. I've already got about 4000 on mine

It's actually 1400 with the biggest account but that is more than enough, it was one of my concerns as well but I'll probably do a rolling archive because if people haven't bought an image after 3-4 months it's a fair bet their not going to in the future. How the hell do you manage 4000 images? :notworthy: ;)

Will give it ago when I find time.

At least I know who to ask when I get stuck;) and if there is one sure thing...I will get stuck:bonk:
