Hi

Are there any web programmers out there interested in programming a new web start up?

I am looking for highly creative people, who want to build something original and hopefully very cool.

This is something I am doing in my spare time, so do not have a budget as such, but can offer a % of the company. I intend the site to have some kind of revenue stream, but that is not the primary focus. I am not interested in going down the corporate route or any advertising.

It's all just a muse at present, but if interested pm me and we will go from there.

Thanks

Simon.

If you want to protect your idea, meet people in person and have them sign a non-disclosure agreement first.

Well. I don't want to give away the idea, don't mean to seem paranoid or anything....

can you PM me?

I think that he means what skill set are you looking for and at what level; ie Php, Java, SQL, Html, CSS etc etc

Programmer would indicate coding in php, SQL, Java whereas a developer would be more likely to work in html, CSS, javascript etc. The divides aren't exact, but that's the rough idea.

Are you planning to do your own business analysis or is that to be included; ie concept breakdown to programme workflow?

Are you intending the programmer/developer to also be the designer?

These are all things that you can talk about openly without giving away the basis of your project.

I am happy to meet people in person, but I don't think I need a disclosure type deal. It's more of a niche market type thing, but that doesn't really encompass the idea. It's more a creative artistic project.

It's going to be browser based, but hopefully, something new. Concept based, Apologies for the cliche but out of the box type thinking.

It's just a muse at present, and not business based, so no standard concept to workflow. Imagine you were being shown a web page for the first time, what questions would you ask? Why does that do that? why does that look like that? add any more questions you can think of.

I have some ideas for design, but it obviously depends on the programmers to bring them to life.

I appreciate it sounds a bit vague, but that is because it is! I am hoping to get a few people together as a first step, and build it from there.

I'm a web designer and I have no idea what you are looking for?

If you are wanting to create a web app you will need a web designer to design the front end and user experience and a developer to design the databases and do the back end work.

I don't think you understand what it takes to build a web site or understand what you need to create your idea. I'd definitely go and think about what you want to create and what would be involved - you need to learn or get someone involved who does and share your full idea.

Yes, it's the getting people involved that is the difficult part. Do you have any links to online communities I could post a request in?

You'd still need to provide them with some tangible incentive and some clue as to what you want to develop. A share of a company (assuming you mean a legal entity) which has real costs, but with no intention of generating revenue isn't a particularly attractive incentive.

I've worked with people from all levels of systems development and it reads to me like you need to speak with someone with more business sense than technical knowledge who can help 'develop' your idea before you start engaging technical people and getting hands on.

It's difficult to suggest anything more (even suggesting where to go next) with such limited information.

I see what you are you saying, I am looking for creative people, that want to take on a creative project. Purely business/money driven people need not reply. Imagine wedding photographers versus street photographers. I want the street people.

Programmers with some spare time to help generate something new, cool, useful really. The main reason I posted in this forum was to attract creative types.

What sort of programmers? Creative types like to see requirements, and business models. Creative types have bills to pay as well.

I see what you are you saying

No offence, but you obviously don't.

OK, OK forget it. It looks as though I have gone about this the wrong way. I will re-think my strategy.

I was hoping for....

Hi, I am a web programmer, with some
free time, I might be interested in your project, PM me with the basic outline, I will let you know if interested.

but it doesn't matter, I have a few contacts at work who may be up for it.

The problem is that you haven't said whether you want the person to make it look sexy or the person to be able to cross reference the fact that user x likes product y and so may be interested in service z. Modern content management systems tend to split out into those two main areas - a team/someone who can see how the database underlying the information you have holds together and can program it to exploit it given "marketings" inputs vs people who can make it look good, know what they want to present, but couldn't get the systems on the server to produce it for their life (sorry, I'm making sweeping statements here to make a point :)).

I suspect you want the person who can take the information, put it into a database and cut and slice it as you want it. If you know how to present the information, then look for someone with database/scripting skills. It's not knowing what you are after that is causing people so many problems...

Maybe try SitePoint forums, but I reckon you'll face a similar line of questioning.

I think you are probably right. Like I say I am going for a different approach. There are a few people I know that may be interested, I am going to begin with a brainstorm (if thats what it's called these days) with them and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies anyway.

I appreciate it was very vague, I have been watching too many ted talks and google IO's I think lol. The idea is to build something completely new. So existing business methods/models do not apply. I need to get a group of creative people together and see what happens.

I do appreciate all the replies, thank you.

Develop the idea until you have a solid concept of what your thing will do, who will use it and why. Money will have to come into the equation at some point as there will be costs involved (domain name and hosting as a minimum). So, you need to consider who will be putting their hands in their pockets and keeping it running. What if your idea proves popular and your costs sky rocket?

Once you've got a concept and know how you're going to sustain it then maybe consider talking to someone who can translate your requirements into a real specification which can then be developed.

This is a very general suggestion based upon the information you've provided.

Nice one, I will take this on board, thanks again.
