Weather warning

It's coming...

Am getting first gusts that are making the electricity wires scream.
Still raining hard.

Yep - definite strong winds coming along the valley.

s

Very very heavy rain and winds here now too!..

The storm has entered a new phase.
The house is shuddering like a fully laden articulated lorry going past, and its not just gusts.
For the first time it actually feels like this storm might live up to expectations.

At least the taps have been turned off and it is now only raining in bursts.

Very blustery and blowy over here at this end of Kent. I'm expecting this to last until at least 9 am as it hits a peak at around 7 am which is about two hours from now. It looks like the Isle of Wight is copping it the most from what I'm reading.

You have to admit - and without blowing my trumpet too much - but this was well forecasted on my part.

Hope you all are keeping safe.

Currently, it's raining steadily (but not heavily), and there doesn't seem to be any wind at all...

We've got quite a wind out there. Our village is in the middle of woods so lots of trees. Just had a text from our commuter coach company saying that they can't serve our village so must mean our only road into the village is blocked

Our power has just gone out. House alarms going off everywhere

Hope all is keeping safe ? Just witnessed a 747 coming into land miss the approach at Heathrow and had to climb again and another one JUSt as iam typing this, the planes are really struggling here they are all over the place.

I guess this is where pilots really earn their wages, don't envy them at all.

Apparently loads of houses have lost power around Exeter...anyone seen Nod, he is normally awake at this time :naughty:

Suddenly getting much windier here

I know Yv looking at these planes you don't want to be on board they are scary to watch!! I have seen one land the rest about 7 planes so far have missed the approach completely

We are under several flight paths here with Heathrow, Stanstead, Luton and City all within 25 miles as the crow [plane] flies. I just went and stood at the window for 10 mins and there is LOT of aircraft up there, even for a normal day, never mind one where flights have been restricted by some airports.

Just been clicking on Flightradar24 and there are huge numbers of planes stacked around London.
Their trails indicate quite a few of them have been there for a while and most of them have had at least one attempt at landing.
I also found a Thai Airways 747 that's on it's way towards Manchester after an aborted landing.
I would't fancy being on them planes at the moment!

Good news everybody, I am still here and in one piece  :suspect::suspect:

No sign of hurricanes here, slept like a log :D

Already eased back again here now, though the dramatic break in the clouds just as the worst of the winds arrived and as sun was rising, has now been replaced with what looks like rain heavy cloud :(

Apologies, crap photo from bedroom window, pretty much at the limits of the X10's manual settings and still over exposed the high lights trying to get the movement on the tree, but you get the idea, a sudden blast of glorious blue sky and a sun rise happening somewhere in the distance.

Haha, as I type, the heavens have just opened, back to a bit gusty and stair rods

make that 10am..

South West Trains ‏@SW_Trains 57s

No trains are running across our network at the moment. Trees are blocking most Mainline and Suburban routes. Engineers are attending.

South West Trains ‏@SW_Trains 3m

Customers advised not to travel this morning. Most routes will not get a service until at least 10:00 - 26 trees blocking lines.

Aye, but they are still showing rail users on the news saying that cancelling trains before any known damage is an over reaction... damned if they did and damned if they didn't really, there would have been hell to pay if they hadn't and a trains were derailed/damaged/stacked up in stations because of those 26 fallen trees ;)

Makes me laugh really, how many times every winter do you hear people moan that the problem with this country is it's never prepared for really bad weather... so this time bad weather is known about, lots of preparation, and they are still moaning :bang:

Absolutely nothing here, yet again the press are leaping on to a none event. We were forecast heavy rain and gale force winds, well its the weather people got it wrong yet again, all we have is a light drizzle and no wind at all.

agree - storm in a tea cup here

I would describe last night and this morning, here in Beds, as wet, and a bit windy. And that's it

Not sure why we are getting minute by minute live updates on the BBC. I feel they are scrabbling for anything

But maybe it's way worse elsewhere.

Here on the edge of Dartmoor we had severe storms overnight, with torrential rain and winds well in excess of 80mph...

Daughter has just come in from work, complete with photo on her phone of a fallen tree on two cars by our local tube station less than a mile away. News reporting several fallen trees on rail lines across London, so whilst some people may have gotten away with it, still plenty of damage and regardless of media [over]reaction, I am still on the side of the preparations were necessary by the look of things.
