Weather warning

PM, Matticles!!! ;)

What time is this storm supposed to hit east anglia? Was planning to bike to a pub in the next village. Don't fancy heading back at 11 pm with 60 mph winds?

May get the same again next week.

Need go take the commas out of the link!

We sit a bit higher up in Paulton so end up with First Bus not even trying to get up the hill as soon as the first snowflake lands!

Just waiting to see what happens. SWMBO is out the door at 6:30 in the morning.

I will laze for the morning but will keep an eye on things.

Critical point is between 3am and 9am ! If you want to hear the show then set your alarms for 3

I'll be driving from Basingstoke to Oxford as usual at 6:30, could be an interesting drive tomorrow :)

Have postponed train trip to National Portrait Gallery and primed the chain-saws instead and put ratchet strap round hen-coop:)
Oh, the joys of country life. Looking forward to a good storm but only bit windy here.

My bedroom is in the attic so will get it in high def Dolby surround

When I was a kid we had a flat roof extension next door to my bedroom. On stormy nights I used to love falling asleep to the sound of rain hammering down on it whilst I was tucked up nicely :) I've always loved a storm though. Especially when thunder and lightening is involved!

Oh yes, I love a good storm but hate working outside in the wind, drives the animals mad. A walk in a gale, on the other hand, is great:)

I love walking in windy weather, just as well as I'll be out in it tomorrow, dodging whatever is flaying a round.
Thankfully I've moved since the last one, we had no electric for 10 days afterwards, luckily I had a fire with a backboiler so heat and hot water, plus calor gas for cooking.
Here I'm in a more densely populated place so hopefully will be higher priority, but all electric, so have been a got and double burner camping stive, at least I can have coffee and soup if the worst happens

Well its all gone very weird here, the wind is no more than a gentle breeze,
and its started raining steadily.
Its been dry and "howling" most of today.
The quiet before the storm perhaps?

Wonderful :D:D

Absolutely surreal here.
Somerset's highest village, flat calm, but persisting down in proverbial stair rods.
We seem to be missing out, the road reports from not far North and South of here are indicating huge wind at the mo.

Here in North London, its been really gusty all day, but now, calmed down, almost no wind at all, but bloody stair rods falling from the sky. Yet somewhere in London a tree has already been blown over earlier today and crushed a car  They are saying worse of it will be here between 6 and 7am... start of rush hour... that'll be ace... :|

All this hype....still nothing more than a little blustery and that's it  still nothing's due for a few hours is it....betting the media want scenes like America and that's how it will be reported no doubt reality will be a lot less

Well they are all excited because thsi storm is big enough to have been given a name!

St Jude, the patron saint of lost causes and desperate situations.... NO wonder the Met office and BBC weather forecasters LOVE it!! :naughty:

Honestly it's like when there is an inch of snow and the country grinds to a halt :( depressing

Got stair rods here right now but baromer reall low so still expecting some strong winds.

Got my camera set up on my tripod as we gett a really good view from the landing window (which opens fully inwards....) of tbe Cam Valley and in the far distance the A37 going towards Bristol and the A39 link.

Rain is qite strong.

Steve

Just hoping for some lightening.

It will be interesting to see the pics

yr.no shows wind up to 14m/s at 1AM, so not big deal (about 50 km/h). I suspect media made up a story because there was not enough carnage elsewhere

Met office forecast sat night showed wind speed of 52mph with gusts up to 85mph at 3am tomorrow .

Just looked and it now shows 37mph winds with gusts up to 63mph for 3am so maybe it was a bit OTT?

Things are a bit more accurate and systems for weather tracking are also better in general than in 1987 when we all went to bedwith Michael Fish reporting to us there would be no hurricane then his nothing to be concerned about forecast. Then the world fell in!

For me I have walls between 24-30 inches thick and very strong roof trusses etc. My main issues are flying objects more than anything.

So if nothing happens all loose things are locked away and I will wake to a tidier garden than Friday.

If it goes mad the cars are under strong cover and my garden should not yield flying objects. Just hope that others have done the same.

After 1987 essentially seeing angry nature at what was NOT nature at it's worst, a lot of effort goes into trying to protect against wind rain etc. Truth is nature can break through almost anything!
