Weather-proofing your Laptop

Having mainly shot for clubs themselves and only bits and bobs of live wiring, if it starts to rain I have just put the laptop away and braved it with the camera alone. I'm going to most likely need to be wiring images regardless of weather in the coming months and whilst we don't have much rain out here in Brisbane I'll probably be back in the UK photographing at some point in the not too distant future.

So, any advice on the best way to weather proof a laptop? Waterproof case / keyboard cover? I'm also interested in what you agency/freelance guys do? Keep wiring whatever the conditions? How? Just for detail, I use a 13in macbook.

I remember photographing at the KC stadium once in torrential rain, but as at the time they let you move around during the game, I found a spot protected by a stand and carried on. Not a chance of that at Bootham Crescent and I'm sure a lot of other smaller grounds?
 
I must admit I've never seen anyone with what I would call a waterproof case for their laptop - sure some improvisations are at play - man in black bin bag or sun screen doubling up as potential rain protection .... I had my MacBook touch bad go wonky at a Norwich City game a few years back ... on top of this the touch pad hates it if your fingers are wet ... I have to admit I've not managed to find anything that would have been wiring in heavy rain with confidence .... would love to hear other folks feedback ..
 
The iCAP Min Pro Notebook Tent was the best of what I have looked at for my 13" Macbook Pro from a coverage, stability and construction point of view. Used to be on Amazon - but no longer available there - looks to be OK direct though @ €83+shipping. Larger versions are available.

Think tank & a couple of others actually make a waterproof laptop!, a friend of mine uses one & it's weired sitting with mine in a seaport case/cover & him just typing away :)
 
Only seen one guy up here with one but not seen it used in the rain (Not sat his side)

That was a Dell IIRC.

Mine goes away, agree with Gary. I pop into the wire room at HT and wire the main ones needed and then back in at FT to dry out, get a culpa and wire the rest while the traffic clears
 
You're all a bunch of woosiees.

Laptop goes away in the rain....

Get a Thinkpad and a Think tank sun shade = end of problems.

In all but the worst of weather that is.
 
Laptop? Waterproof cases?

I find it much easier to just take my Amstrad PPC 512. Loves the rain...
 
to amplify my origional post,
You can of course invest now in waterproof laptops but that is a no go if you've already ploughed your cash into a set up?.
As Rob says a Think Tank Sun Shade will do the trick but it's view is restricted due to the deep alcove!, (I own & use one), if your sat anywhere above floor level!. I hear good reports about the "I version" of it but understand it's a mare to put up & down!.
I personally use in the winter my "Seaport Pro" case distributed via Callumet, it folds out to a covered shade & has the added benefit of an attachable front cover to shield from driving rain!.
It's by no means cheap but if a £900 lappy depends on sending/surviving what's £100?. Kind regards Graham.

yes it is but it's the I-Visor LS Pro model I bought (bottom LH corner of that page). Has the added rear area for sundries disc etc! & also can be mounted on a stand if required
. I also think the front velcroed cover only comes with this model?. Kind regards Graham.

Looks fab. Only problem by the look of that pic is that the hood doesn't look like it will give too much protection against heavy rain.
 
it's the velcroed cover that makes it an enclosed space!, tapes along the front edge of the shade, I waterproofed mine via a wash in product to add water repellant.
