Hi,
I need to wear glasses for close up stuff, without them I can't easily read the panel on the 50D. I've always taken them off when taking photographs as the subjects are far enough away (anything more than3ft) I've recently got into macro and am finding this a real pain now as I need the glasses on to even spot the insects I'm going to photograph so am constantly taking them off an on. Does anyone use their camera viewfinder while wearing glasses ? Just wondering if this is a better route.
Thanks

There were specialist glasses available whereby the lens could be hinged up out of the way, rifle shooters sometimes used them and remember seeing some made for photography too

I have one of the Hoodman jobs mentioned above, wasn't that impressed (not for me anyway) and is now gathering dust in a drawer somewhere.

I wear glasses all the time, certainly wouldn't be able to take them off, i'd bump into things and get lost, i just assumed it was tough when looking through the view finder, the only thing that annoys the hell out of me is i steam up often:LOL:

I've got bifocals and they are a pita but there's nothing I can do about it, it just slows me up a little framing subjects up quickly.

Thanks, I do have the inbuilt diopter on the camera adjusted, it's just the faffing about spotting an insect, taking glasses off, framing then focusing. I might try just keeping them on.
Just getting old I guess :)

If I took my glasses off, I wouldn't even find the camera!
Extremely short sighted but never had any problem using the viewfinder, even now that I have varifocals.

It can be difficult looking through a viewfinder while wearing glasses, I held off as long as I could. Most of the time I do have to wear them using the Camera, I simply stop short of resting my glasses on the viewfinder, and I find this works for me.

Not too much problem wearing glasses when looking through viewfinder - I the exact opposite to OP as need to remove glasses to see close up rather than put them on.

What about contact lenses? Assuming your eyes can take them, that would appear a pretty straightforward fix.

I have the same problem. I always look over my glasses to see the view finder. I can't see well close up but only need a little help seeing distances so I wear multi-focal glasses. The part that is used for close up is at the bottom so I would have to tilt my head way back to even look through the correct part of my glasses to be useful. Well you can forget composing or even finding your subject while doing that. I was thinking about getting one of those diopter thingies. Do y'all think that will help my situation.

I have had variety vocals for years I just look through the view finder of my 550d it just seems to work for me never take my glasses off

I think it is more of the cutting the light out then anything. With glasses all the outside light comes in so I find it hard to see as well. I think that's why I move them and then look through the view finder.

I do the same as you (look over glasses) - and swapping the standard eyepiece glass for a +2 (or whichever is best for you) helps because it brings the camera's built-in adjuster back towards the centre of its range, hence you can fine tune it much better.
