Quite some time ago I had an eye test done and am supposed to be wearing glasses....

I haven't been and when trying to read some of the material that came with my camera I was struggling a bit. I found my glasses while cleaning (as you do) and tried them on again.

It made quite a difference and I had to put the on and take them off a few times just to make sure It was the glasses.

If those who wear glasses both before and after starting to take pics.....did you notice a difference in your work?

Do you need to wear them when you take pics? Or would NOT wearing them affect your focusing?
What about not wearing them?

I took a couple of manual focus pics last night and they were slightly off..and was just wondering if my eyes were off.....or I just need to practice more...:-)
Cheers
J

Ive worn glasses since I was two, lazy eye :gag:

If you've been told you need glasses, I would stongly reccomend wearing them

I stopped from about 10 until I was 19 and my eyesight got a whole lot worse, now I can barely see without them!!

I use contacts mainly as my glasses are heavy because of the thicker lenses I need.

Don't risk your future eyesight, take it from someone who knows

I was prescribed glasses a few years ago. Only because i have trouble reading small print. I very rarely use them as i don't read a lot!
I do find they help when i'm converting my pics but i never wear them out of the house. I find the diopter on the camera more than compensates. If a friend has a go on my camera they get a bit confused because it looks out of focus to them.:D

A very interesting subject!

I have minus 7 short-sightedness (so I'm in the realms of Velma in Scooby-Doo..... my glasses!....my glasses!!!! I CAN'T SEE WITHOUT MY GLASSES!!!!!

I normally have difficulty in getting my eye close enough to the viewfinder to be able to see the readings before taking a shot.... so I do a lot of chimping! :) otherwise if I'm over or underexposed I don't have a clue till I download!!! (and cussing at my glasses whilst downloading and/or inability to see very well!!!)

i dont need glasses but i like to where them to read fine print as it strains my eyes otherwise, ive had a problem with one of my eyes being twitchy and blinking constantly not in sequence with the other one and i realised its when i used to play my gameboy constantly and the screen strained my eyes, so i like to wear glasses just for fine print and when using live view. i can easily put my eye in the viewfinder to take the photo and sometimes i adjust the dioptre to help me a bit.

I usually wear my glasses when I'm out and about, but I cant for the life of me use them when using a camera... just cant get in close enough. Nor can I close one eye, so its always both open for me :P

I've worn glasses since I was asked to read the blackboard in primary school and asked, "What blackboard?"

How close to the viewfinder do you all want to get? I wouldn't be capable of getting a shot in focus without glasses...cos I can't see! Mind you, some would argue i don't get much in focus anyhow :geek::p

I was wondering about this as well, I dont really need glasses for everyday use - mainly for the box...

A while ago (last summer) I got my partner who wears them to see if the camera was in focus on a particular subject - to see if it was blurry to some one who wore glasses - to a reply was "slightly" althou according to the camera the shot was in focus..

I would have thought that it would have been more aimed at the manual focusing surely - as wouldn't the auto-focus of the camera make the shot "sharp" as so to speak?

Not really answering the question I suppose but when I first started wearing glassed I was astounded at how much detail everything had. I was about 12. I could see the leaves on the tress without being really close, and the blades of grass, without bending down...

If you AF it shouldn't make a difference though TBH.

I was in primary school when I was told I first needed glasses. Told to wear the for board work.
Put em on and it was like a whole new world, like MagicMynx describes above.
I haven't taken them off since! (well ok, I have, and have had many pairs since then)

Do you drive, and shouldn;t you wear them for that?

Likewise!

I genuinely thought it was normally for things to be blurry or out of focus the further away they were.

But, linking it to photography, I had a MF Ricoh at the time and when a whole set of snaps came back all out of focus in exactly the same way it was off to the opticians ..

You can buy additional dioptre correction lenses for the eypeices of your cameras, you know.
If the level of dioptre correction required is outside the range of the already-adjustable eyepiece, that is...

I've just got to the point of having to wear glasses all the time and it has taken some getting used to when using the camera.

Does it make my photography any better? No. Does it help me see the results better? yes.

Does it bug me when it's raining? YES.

i wear specs all the time, and have done since i was a toddler.
never been an issue for me.
but as has been said, if you need to wear specs, wear them.
it realy can mess up your eyes struggling along without them.
does it bug me when its raining?
no, thats what baseball caps are for.

i dont wear mine!!!

i do however take them with me when im doing pictures as i cant see very far away so when im doing dog pics with my dog i have to be able to see any other dogs about to pounce haha....

but close ups... im not too bad but do need them then too really...!

Like many people, I guess, I need to wear my glasses all the time. I've tried adjusting the diopter to allow me to focus through the viewfinder but then find I can't see the lcd screens so have to put the glasses back on. Take 'em off .. put 'em on ... too much fuss - wear them all the time.

I tried contacts but I'm too squeemish to put them into my eyes :'(

Do I hate the rain? Yes!

I wear my spectacles all the time and have needed them since I was 7. I'm -7 dipotres in each eye which means I can focus 5" in front of my nose without them. I certainly can't take photographs without them,

I have high refractive index glass with two layers, one constant thickness reactive layer and one variable thickness clear layer, so they don't go very dark in the corners. I can't stand plastic lenses - if they are so good, why don't SLR lenses use plastic ;) - mainly due to the way they scratch, even the so called "scratch resistant" coated ones, so when my perscription changed this year I told the optician to order me a set to my specification from Carl Zeiss.

Cheapest Zeiss glass in my lens collection they are too :D

I've worn glasses since I was 9 and I'm now a whopping Mr Magoo -11. Never had any bother using the eyepiece to focus. (Don't have live view yet).

One thing I would say to anyone thinking of getting new bins. I got some reactolite lenses last time and they are great but I forget I'm wearing them. So when taking photos in bright sun I have to try to remember that I have them on and adjust or keep checking the image (very close up) to see what it is actually like. I try to put my contacts in if I'm out and about for a while.

Oh, and I am appalled at the amount of people who need specs and have been told so and still don't wear them. You really should take care of your eyes more.
Please tell me that you meet the required standard for driving.

I am another lifer for glasses... My prescription means thick lenses but I pay extra to have them thinned..always have done before i needed to get near the vierwfinder

However the best thing I ever did re photogrpahy was to get bifocals.. now I can see through the viewfinder and can chimp with same glasses on.. its been a godsend :)

I am getting long-sighted with age and need glasses for reading and close work but not for driving or box goggling. So I am constantly taking them on and off when I am togging - it drives me nuts. I have set the diopter for the viewfinder but I can't see the LCD clearly without the glasses. If I keep them on then I can't see anything clearly beyond about 3 feet. So I have them on a cord round my neck, which then gets tangled in the camera strap...aaargh!

I only need mine for reading very small print...:-)
For those of you who are worried about the driving...I'm fine for that.
But I reckon I'll need them more often sooner rather than later....so I thought I'd ask..:-)

Contact lenses are great, no more misting up when you come in from the cold!
