We had quite an adveture up near the Giant's Causeway last weekend.

With the help of an experienced climbing guide I made the first ever photograph of the inside of Ireland's largest marine cave. We got there using a Lidl dinghy costing £40 and 300 yards of static line.

We also made the Irish national press

What a picture  and what a story.

Congratulations, :woot: whats next?

Thanks folks,

Whats next? Well it will be hard to beat that one. I'd like to try and find the legendary Bruce's cave below Rathlin Island's east lighthouse. Again, it has never been photographed.

Saying that, we can only push our luck so far. :help:

Great story, and great pic. Good luck with the new adventure

Well done:thumbs: Have you been in touch with Lidl? Their PR people should be interested in this.

Congratulations but you may want to invest in a sturdier watercraft.

I could see the coastguard taking a very dim view of your method of transport if god forbid, anything were to go wrong!

Nicely done :)

How do you know it's not been photographed before though?

Gandhi,

Perhaps, but I suspect that they would take a more dim view of people with good craft that act recklessly. What we did may look like madness but I was in the hands of one of the UK's most experienced climbers with a string of first ascents on Orkney sea stacks to his name. We had the all the gear that we needed to do it safely. We also had a direct line to the Belfast marine rescue co-ordination centre and they knew exactly what was going on.

Regarding whether it has been photographed before, I wouldn't rule it out completely. There's certainly nothing online or in any published book. I have also spent the last 9 months talking to many, many experienced kayakers working the antrim coast. There was just nothing out there. I'm hoping my bold claims may rattle a few photos out of the woodwork, but despite the national press, nothing has arrived in my inbox.

Perhaps a kayaker has been in with a waterproof compact. But I would be 99.9999% certain it's never been photographed using an SLR on a tripod from the cave ledge.

Glad everyone is enjoying the story.

Good photo.Have only been on the tops of those cliffs myself.look forward to your next post

Great read and shots, certainly sounds like you are having a lot of fun and even making a bit of history... well done that man
