Our Mac Pro came in last night!!! :D I'm like a kid in a candy shop. I must say whith my first play around with iphoto for quick touch ups (for family and such) it is not a bad little program.

Unfortunately, our modum doesn't work with the intel macs so I still have to use the PC to get online till we can get a new modum. We are thinking of getting a modum/router so our 3 computers can talk.... any recommendations?

ADSL or cable?

And its modem BTW ;) (modulate demodulate)

PS i'm so jealous :(

So its an intel based chipset, its in a rectanglular tower case, its a PC, with an apple logo on the side ;) The only difference these days is that it runs MacOS, I was looking at a Macmini the other day just out of interest, wouldnt mind trying one but nothing with the apple logo on it is cheap :(

As brummie says we need to know if its an ADSL (through your phone line), or a cable (NTL/Telewest) connection that you have at home. I'm guessing it'll probably be ADSL if you live in the sticks, Telewest don't like digging up those roads.

Actually to buy the same PC (as close as you can get) would have cost us about $200 more so apple is no longer that expensive. Before we went Apple we tried out CS2 on both a very speedy gaming PC and the Mac we ended up buying. There was no comparison in speed the apple just beet the pc hands down and was cheaper!

As for the MODEM ;) it is indeed ADSL, yes it's because we live in the sticks. I think we are going with the Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless Modem Router. That is unless you think it is rubbish.

I've got a belkin one but the netgear stuff is fine and I've used them in the past. from me.

Just remember - you'll need either wireless cards or network cards/cables for the other pcs.

Get bootcamp installed on it, then XP-pro and then install CS2.... youlll be amazed how well it runs. I know it a shame to install an MS product on such a beautiful machine but for CS2 its worth it, imo.

Dreeder - Actually I don't have CS2, it just happens to be what I used to compare the two computers before buying. I'm going to be using aperture mostly and elements for a few odds and sods.

Darksaber- Argos is running a deal and you get a free wireless card! Going at lunch to pick it up.

Renee - have done a few searches and that price is okay - I can find the router at about £66 ex postage but thats without the wireless USB adapter. If you have any problems getting it set up, give us a shout.

I'd have probably gone for a Linksys WAG354G-UK. Add an Omni direction high gain antenna to that for the price you going to pay for the Netgear.

brummie thanks for that - unfortunately I've already bought the netgear! But I will keep that link in case there is a next time.

There most certainly will be a next if you've bought netgear ;)

thats not strictly true brummie, some of the netgear stuff is okay :p

I used to say the same thing about belkin ;)

Now our desk isn't big enough. The sheer size of the tower is unbelievable.. More reasons to spend £!

Ive been running a Netgear ADSL Firewall Router at work for about 3 years now (24, 7, connection) with not a hitch. At home (here) I run a Netgear Wireless ADSL Firewall Router, again 24, 7. Been running this for about a year without a hitch :)

Darksaber, the Mac Mini is a little dream. I have one of the original units fitted in with me tele (big Samsung LCD) and surround sound system, connected to the network of course. Run all me music on there in iTunes plus a few films. Ideal for the living room as its whisper silent and wireless keyboard 'n mouse. It also means the wife can surf and play games whilst I get on with the serious stuff, like TP :D

I've got an xbox 360 that can stream movies and music from my pc so I wouldn't need it up with my TV, I guess its just something I fancy, and having a proper look at Mac OS too.

another happy netgear wifi router user here.
Been fine for years :)

Ok here is a pic. We now have it hooked up and the other computers are networked also! I am very happy. I've been processing some pics this morning and I am so happy we spent the money.

I know it is a crappy screen but one thing at a time. Also it is on the dining room table as it doesn't fit on our desk!
