We all should read this.....

Do you think the shots, particularly the roundabout shot, need to be viewed on amassive size to appreciate it more? It was shot on MF, so being displayed in a large size would increase the detail and enable you to get more out of the soldiers?

I very much doubt it Lawrie. You only have to read the spiel that goes with it. He's just been stopped by a patrol and told to stop taking pictures. As they drive off he lifts the camera and takes a nothing snap of the roundabout in no doubt petulant defiance, and good luck to him for that. He admits himself though that he didn't notice the significance of the soldiers in the shot at the time only noticing them later in the darkroom which is also the first time he noticed the IRA graffiti on the foreground barrier, which is tiny anyway.

On the strength of this he has a a moment of clarity and decides that henceforth this is his style - anti- surveillance?? Come on... I don't mind BS served up on a spoon but it gets a bit much when it's chucked at you off a shovel! :D

Do you work for the art gallery who are going to show this? Or the BBC, by any chance. I'd have thought you would have got it by now. They are crap......

I have already agreed they are crap!

As I have said I like a good debate.

Also, I am someone who likes to try and have an understanding of most things. So I am trying to understand why someone feels this is of such great importance that it deserves exhibiting, publishing and the full BBC promo.

I closed the link after seeing the first image and TBH I didn't read any of the background information but my overriding impression was I have binned better photos than that roundabout photo, to me it was just as shot that has been fired of then the photographer or someone else has tried to add significance to it with the explanation

TP I suspect would have acted as a heavy dose of gravity if this shot were posted on here ;)

Yeah they're crap. I mean the cars in them aren't exactly on two wheels flat out round a bend, and as for the birds, well I counted them and reached a figure of precisely zero. ;)

When you see the 'great shot' comments that are left here at some absolutely atrocious, cover-your-eyes-awful photography I'm not that surprised to see this thread.

Can anyone explain to me why 'snapshot' is being used in a perjorative way here? It's absolutely fine to not like photographs. What is odd is that a genuinely interesting body of historical work is dismissed, yet a picture of a cat is applauded.

 Not "hiatus": haikus.

Over here in pseuds' corner, I occasionally use a haiku to inspire a shot, or for a title. Most don't rhyme, so the Pam Ayres' Appreciation Society wouldn't approve.

Shussh - Freudian slip ;) :D
