I've got a WD 1TB hard drive that obviously has all my backed up photos etc on - this morning when I turned it on to try and search for a particular photo, it was not recognized on the desktop. When I plug in the power socket, there is a brief flash of the power light, and then nothing. I've tried the power cable on another Buffalo HD, and its fine. And suggestions? I can't open disk utility or anything, because its not actually connecting power wise.:shake:

sounds like the circuit board might have given up

Usually they are just a hard drive in a box, you might be able to take it out of the plastic case and plug the drive directly into your PC if you feel confident doing that?

There are no screws on the external casing...at all. It might prize open, just don't really want to do anything in case there's any chance WD or someone would be able to get it going. hmmm

One of mine did this. It did reformat and I was able to copy everything back to it but it happened again shortly afterwards. I've replaced it now but I am tempted to break the case open and retrieve the drive.

Thanks goodness! Tried it again for the upteenth time and it works! going to transfer everything to the new one right now! Thanks all for the adivice! *big sigh, and goes to have shower tp get rid of sweat!* :D
