WCMUT....what cheered me up today

New teef! They fit and are a better colour match to the real ones I have left.

WCMUT was me remembering to give the Box bush its second application of XenTari caterpillar treatment and the weather being close to perfect for the task!

Might have to give it a severe trim next May.
Ours got the dreaded blight and had to be "terminated"! It's taking ages to dig everything out and remove all the root system but it's got to be done. :(

TBH, when ours started looking bad last year, my first thought was blight but closer inspection showed lots (and I mean LOTS!) of the caterpillars. Started picking them off and moaned on here about them (OK, it was Mrs Nod doing the picking, with her "murder glove!!!) at which point Heather (Tigger UFO) pointed me towards the biological control stuff that works! They do do a blight treatment as well but it sounds like it's too late for yours.

Went to the teef specialist this morning, and he said no work was required.

Our little corded Flymo has seen better days. The blade is knackered after lots of stone hits and sharpening and the motor is sounding a bit rough. Even moderately long grass challenges it and despite not having a large grass area, the little blade makes it time consuming.

Popped down to B&Q just for a curious browse and spotted a MacAllister 36V with a 37cm blade reduced from £260 to a rather nice £160 and it even comes with a mulching attachment. That'll do nicely. Cheers me up when a nice sale is on just when you need something.

While gardening this morning we heard a racket from some gulls overheard, looked up & saw three buzzards circling overhead; it's the first time we have ever seen buzzards where we live.

The real ones need very little maintenance but the removeable ones are getting a bit worn (and, having been flung into the basin, have a couple of support bits missing!) so I felt a fresh set was in order.

WCUUY&T (Us, Yesterday & Today!) were 2 days of biking. Yesterday was spent with some of Devon & Cornwall's RoadSafe team to refresh my brane (re good riding practice) and to slightly retrain Mrs Nod's from the driving test's minimum skills to pass mindset. Very interesting and useful for both of us.

Today was the Exeter Classic Motorcycle Club's Dartmoor run from Exeter Quay out and over the North Moor. Mrs Nod's first time riding in a large group and I could see the difference yesterday has made. We cut the ride a bit short, heading straight back from Princetown because her Mum is in hospital. Might have found Mrs Nod her own Bobber too... Low mileage and the current owner is a fastidious restorer!

Just sold our son's bike - he was over from Switzerland last week, left the bike and took back a car. First viewer paid cash asking price. :)

Today I built a watch from parts off the internet. It was a bit fiddly and as they're only cheap parts the finishing doesn't stand up to high magnification viewing but it's good enough for a first cheap effort :D

If they're that good you better not lend them out as you might not get them back.

Just on teeth. A cautionary tale, Mrs WW had an infected gum and just wouldn't go to the dentist for 7 years. Eventually she had to go and what a mess it was. The tooth wasn't loose but it was dead so had to be taken out and she's had the first stage of an implant. She was really lucky as at first they thought that the infection had spread to her jaw but luckily it hadn't. She said she's learned her lesson and will in future go to the doctor/dentist and not put it off for 7 years.

Poor sod if they fit anyone else!!!

Regular trips to the dentist now, despite the cost.

Had a wander around the new houses being built next to us, found a road not on original approval that cuts out to the nearby main road, woohoo a shortcut going north, saves about 2 miles in town over the route we’ve been taking for 30 years in this house.

Car insurance renewal quote for next year nearly £40 less than last year, I still checked but couldn't find a better price for the cover I require.

Now Mrs Nod can ride her own bike!!!

4 Bonnies (modern) of assorted types. All have their uses so I can justify them (to myself!) One of those under cover is another Bobber - but one with a narrower front tyre and shiny black paint rather than the matt that Mrs Nod's has in the shot.

Yesterday and today one of my cars was in for a 10 year service and MoT so it was a big job and would take two days. The main dealer has been excellent to the point of going a bit too far, constant emails, txt's calling me to remind me they were coming to collect the car, calling me to say it had passed it's health check, more emails, committing to calling me the next morning, more emails and txt's and on and on and on. It got a bit annoying and I did actually say that they needn't bother and to just call me to make sure I'd be in when the car was due to come back.

They had a terrible reputation a few years back but these days I can't fault them at all and in fact I think they could dial down on the customer service and still be just fine.

Service dept should just go and help in the workshops, might get your car back quicker, 2days for a service sounds odd but just because never seen that,.

To be fair to them it wasn't just a service it was a 10 year service which is the biggest service the car gets plus the MoT and their usual "health check" and allowing time for them to pick up and return the car as they never pick it up at the crack of dawn so I wasn't shocked when they said it'd take longer than a day plus they washed it inside and out which was nice.

I suppose the health check and service should really take just a few hours to half a day or so with a break or two in there somewhere and then there's the MoT and a mini valet type wash and vac out taking it to what? 4-5-6 hours, maybe more, maybe less and then there's delivering the car back and probably by this time running into rush hour and the delivery guy wanting to clock off on time. So, yes, maybe it would be possible in a day even with a mid morning arrival at the dealership but honestly I do think getting it all done in a day would perhaps all things being considered have been pushing it. Other times the car has been in and out in a day but I did know that the 120 month service is a biggie.

I did tell them I would be out on day 2 until 12:00 and messages and calls started at 10am or so while I was still out so I could have got the car back earlier if I'd been available. This was my RR Evoque and just for comparison I've had a service and MoT take over a day for my more run of the mill MX5 and Hyundai at my local garage.

All in all I'm very happy with this dealership as they've really turned their customer service around.

For around £200 per hour, I'd bloody hope so!!!

WCMUT is getting the little learner bike sold. Space on the drive now...

I think they went a little OTT but it might be just me who could be happy with fewer emails, txt's and calls. I'm fine with just ring me when it's ready.

Anyway. Today I saved £60 insuring the above car which was nice as my previous insurer put their price up.

Last time I had mine done at the main stealer, I told them not to top up the washer bottle - so they didn't. Instead, they put a 1/2 litre bottle of diluted fluid in the passenger footwell and tried to charge me £30 for it. They also tried to charge me for some warranty work as well as trying to charge me twice for removing the wheels. Now got a VERY good specialist who employs only JLR trained mechanics (NOT technicians!) and charges less than 1/2 main stealer hourly rate.

I've tried two independent specialists and was disappointed with them both plus there's the cost of getting a taxi home and back to pick the car up. I suppose it depends where you live and what's available. I use a local garage for my MX5 and Getz and I have used them for the Evoque but for the last two years I've given the main dealer a chance and I am happy with them. Yes, they will be more expensive but at least everything is done first time and the car isn't covered inside and out with oily finger prints. So far there hasn't been any need to go back or whinge for any reason. That could change but I hope not :D

I had my Honda mot’d other week, car left as they opened and went for a walk, 45 minutes later text popped in, mot done- pass, collect when convenient. Braw.
When working in the main dealer cars required back by a certain time done first, others done when ‘urgent?’ services complete and ready for late afternoon.

I think to compare to my experience you have to look at major services. For eg. This was my Evoque's 120 month service which is apparently the most extensive it gets + MoT + they collected it and delivered it back again + they cleaned it inside and out + I could have had it back earlier as they started calling and messaging at 10:00 or so.

People don't seem to agree with me and that's fine... I think it was good service and I'm still happy :D

Rain.
I've not got to water the pots.

Dry.
Managed to get down to the beach on the bikes for a cup of coffee. Now looks and feels like rain for the garden!

You might get an odd shower or two tomorrow but that's it.

A couple of weeks ago I booked flights for a trip to Thailand in October and booked airport parking at Manchester Airport...... When it came to the parking it was showing no availability at the one I normally use, which is Jetparks Ringway, so I decided to book the only other Jetpark option that was available.........

Fast forward to today and I get an email from booking website I used which had a discount code for new bookings...... Did a new search for my dates and my favoured option was now showing availability, plus it was coming in at a cheaper price that what I'd paid..... Thanks to their T & C's, I can cancel my booking up until 72 hours before flying and get a refund minus their booking fee. Original booking cancelled and a new booking made.... (y)

Despite losing the original booking fee I've still saved money by changing my booking!!!

LOL.... a month later just out of curiosity I did another price check on my dates and the price for my dates has dropped again..... Booking cancelled again and remade saving me some more money....

Excellent service from Amazon. I've just received a 5 Lt tin of garage floor paint. It was inside a box and when I opened the box the tin was wrapped in a plastic bag...with the paint spilled inside it. The tin was dented and the lid buckled. Despite a red label..Fragile..it had obviously been thrown around. My wife had ordered it through Prime so she contacted the the customer care chap who went off to speak to someone..Did we want a refund ? We'd have re-order. Yes, but we can't return the tin as it's leaking all over the place. No need to send it back. It cost £39.40. There was enough to do the garage floor. Another purchase. Garden fence preservative . Ordered two 5Lt tins ..£28 each on offer. Then my wife got an Email/text..from Amazon to say that Evri had lost them. The tracking showed they'd left the warehouse, then nothing. She was told to apply for a refund. The price has now gone back to £32. At B&Q here, they are £37 each so that was a good deal. My wife phoned Amazon. Answer. Order two tins and when they are delivered then contact them for the £8 difference.

The first chap re the paint even sent my wife a text saying she was the most patient and courteous customer he'd had and it had made his day. Just shows...no need to shout and demand

I ordered an item off Amazon yesterday.... It was advertised as including a battery. Collected it today from my collection point, unpacked it and found no battery was supplied.... decided to on-line chat with customer service about the missing battery and they said I could return it and have a refund.... My reply was I didn't want to return it but would need to buy a battery for it so perhaps they could credit me with the cost of a battery for it since it was advertised as coming with a battery.... The CS agent replied I would receive a full refund and I didn't need to return it!!!..... I double checked with him and he repeated it.... no need to return and I would receive the full refund..... After thanking him I got a "thanks for being a patient and courteous customer and dealing with customers like me was why he enjoyed working for Amazon"

Just checked and the £15.29 has already been credited back to my gift card balance.... :)

Amazon CS is usually pretty good though suspect most of the time it is the supplier who ends up paying. Best CS we have had was one broken bottle in a case of wine, contacted them to get a replacement bottle and they sent another case :)

I've been looking for a case for my bass guitar (long scale) and struggled to find a decent one for decent money. I got fed up looking, so ordered a new one from Gear for music as it's basically just to keep it safe from the vacuum and the visitors to the house! I don't know how they do it for the money! Ordered yesterday, delivered today by DPD. Decent quality and for less than some folks wanted for an old, used one with postage costs. I priced up to make one myself and it would have cost double! You've no doubt guessed where it was made!
