WCMUT....what cheered me up today

If I get that golf frustrated, I swear at putts on the living room carpet.
We have a prticularly nasty, hoover induced, grain, causing a viscous break towards the T V table. :D
Sitting in airport yesterday thinking a Golf Sim would pass 30 mins. Imagine it would be well used in airports in Spain or Portugal.
At 72 it's too late for me to establish a chain of sims .

I would think it could create problems if/when one punter decides to monopolise the sim all the time he's there. Besides it would eat into drinking time...

Now we're getting down to the real mear of a golf break. :D

We have occasional away days as day trips and try to get away for a night once or twice a year. On the 2 dayers, we play "properly" on day 1 then do a Texas Scramble on day 2. What happens in the clubhouse between day 1 and day 2 stays in the clubhouse!!! None of us take it seriously enough to go abroad for a week just to golf.

Living near Glasgow, my mates and I decided three nights on the island of Arran, took another three nights to repair the liver. Fifty minute ferry to mainland wasn't nice, we were green at the gills, not through motion of the ferry.
Ah the good old younger days when my prostate allowed these things.

At last. I've persuaded my wife to watch Sky News at 6.00pm and not the BBC. I go back to the BBC regional news to catch the local weather at 6.55pm.That's on Points West which is dire, to say the least. So much naffed me off about the BBC ,not least, refusing to call Hamas what they are..terrorists . After criticism they now say, "Hamas, which is a proscribed group by the UK government and others .. or 'designated by the UK government and others as a terrorist group' They refer to 'Hamas gunmen'..what's left of them..and 'militants. 'John Simpson, the veteran BBC journalist, said in defence of the BBC.."Calling someone a terrorist means you're taking sides and ceasing to treat the situation with due impartiality. The BBC's job is to place the facts before its audience and let them decide what they think, honestly and without ranting" ITV describes them as terrorists. There's also, for my liking, too much coverage of the Royals and when they are covered the reporter speaks in sychophantic terms. On the recent occasion of Trooping The Colour, William and Anne rode a horse in the parade ,the rest went in a carriage and, afterwards, waved to their subjects..yes, we're not citizens, we're subjects..from the balcony of Buckingham Palace and watched an RAF fly-past from there. . The reporter said...."and it gives the public a good opportunity to see .'the working Royals'..Working ?. Riding horses in a parade and waving to a crowd from the balcony of their massive palace before having a meal laid on by the catering staff...8-10 chefs on a normal day.

I suppose I'll watch Laura Keunsberg on Sunday mornings.

Agree with everything you say, try to avoid BBC if possible. Galling thing is they get our licence fees, sooner there made to self fund the better. Could go on ad nauseum about my gripes with BBC, but this isn't the place.

I think the BBC is good value, for the most part.

Better to have a public service broadcaster, all its faults included, than a spectrum dominated by stations where every programme is cheap rubbish, mostly decades old American cast offs, interrupted frequently by inane adverts. Mind you, every so often even the commercial channels come up with good stuff, so generalisations are, as ever, suspect.

In the meantime, television aerials perform a vital public service for our avian friends...

It's only the news I don't like .BBC2 has very good programmes. Ad-free is good but I'm prepared to put up with them on Sky re the news.

On our regional news..Points West, we have David Garmston as the presenter who shoudl have retired by now. He's like 'grandad'. Having said that...he's only 63. He's worked in the West Country TV for 40 years.

The two younger ones, Sabet Choudhury and Alex Lovell have gone to ITV.

No-one like to be reminded of things that don't align with their world view. That's an observation BTW, rather than a dig.

I appreciate that but it's not the reason I've switched. I can understand why you've,maybe, said that because of my comment re Hamas. I think that its possibly all about keeping costs down. It's also heavily focused on Parliament. ..ie Westminster/London-centric. When I said that Points West is dire, I really mean that. It's absolutely awful. I'd say 95% of its coverage is not news atall. I've watched ITV regional news 6.00 to 6.30pm then Points West 6.30-7.00pm and wondered why Points West hasn't covered a particular important event that was covered by ITV. I'm sure they call around the region's hospitals asking for stories that pull at the heart-strings, so to speak. Charity runs by individuals feature heavily, too. Even the main news does that...ie cover human-interest stories. Most of the Points West programme is beyond inane.

I've just checked re my suggestion it has to do with budget cuts.

"The BBC has made significant budget cuts in recent years, including a 25% real-terms reduction in public funding for UK services since 2010. BBC News has also announced cuts, such as a £24m reduction as part of wider efforts to save £700m annually. These cuts have led to job losses and the cancellation of some programs, including the global interview program Hard Talk"

The NUJ (National Union of Journalists) had this to say last October.

"The BBC has stated it is under significant financial pressure with cuts designed to pivot it to a more agile position within the landscape it operates. It is aiming to save £300m per year by 2027/28, in addition to £400m in savings already realised. Cuts to news and programming revealed, will result in a net loss of 130 posts as 185 roles are culled and 55 created."
In plans announced today, the BBC states it will close HARDtalk by March 2025, despite it being on air since 1997, replacing content with either live news or pre-recorded programming.
That was a great programme. No punches pulled.

"In addition, millions of UK radio listeners will now get their overnight news from the BBC World Service – including those on 5 Live, Radio 2 and the BBC’s 39 Local Radio stations. The NUJ is concerned that important domestic stories will be lost in a much wider, global agenda; these UK-based bulletins have been part of the BBC’s radio service for well over forty years and are now being scrapped for the minimal saving of only 2.5 posts."

Those levels of cuts have to impact the quality of output.

What started as a minor WAMT ended up as a WCMUT once I realised that the offending article was at least 11 years old and has been relatively poorly treated...

Mrs Nod's little MX-5 wouldn't start this morning - in fact, it wouldn't even show a glimmer of life on the dash. Bonnet up and battery condition meter attached - nothing! A more sensitive meter showed a meagre 1.8V, indicating that not only was it flat but it was deader than a parrot that has ceased to be! Given that it was the original battery and that the car gets intermittent use (at best - now she has her bike license, the car just sits there [plans are afoot to move it on soon]), I'm not too surprised - in fact, I think that battery's done well to last this long!

The CMU bit comes from the replacement being sourced from a motor factor that was on the way home from lunch, was relatively cheap (under £75 all in) and took 10 minutes to fit, including taking the old one out. A slight PITA was that it lives tight up to the garage door so the job had to be done at an awkward angle but at least the new battery has a handle!

Car's are great until they go wrong, thankfully an easy enough repair.
Suggest to her, rainy days four wheels, dry days two wheels.......duck at the correct time and you will be fine.

Rainy days are "proper" car days - the MX-5 is only worth using with the top down! Having let her ride my favourite bike, she now wants one herself so we're on the lookout for one so she might need to sell the Mazda to free up some funds.

Could have been worse. I'm sure you'll know of the potential pitfalls of disconnecting a battery in some Jags lol

Mine needed both a year or 2 ago and I let the specialist deal with the job! Luckily, the Mazda was a simple swap out job - but I expect the clock needs correcting.

WCMUT was 2 unrelated (as in "from different manufacturers") mesh and armoured items (jacket and trousers) zipping together. Wasn't sure they would after a try with the other halves - the starter tongue of the latest item is just too fat to fit in the slider of the older one - but the tongue of the older item does fit the slider of the new one. Should stop them sliding apart should they contact the tarmac. New Oxford Arizona trousers into older Jet Colt jacket.

I keep meaning to take my 2001 MX5 out. I will do soon and I can take it out as ever since I bought a trickle charger it's started 1st time every time. I need to check the tyres before taking it out though as they lose pressure over time, I think the wheels are corroded.

I have two WCMUT...

Firstly I got an email off Premium Bonds so I logged on and we've won £150, which is nice.

Secondly and this is a little bit rude... I watch a lot of Youtube these days and I sometimes just watch something that the algorithm has thrown up so when an interview with an attractive blonde lady I didn't recognise popped up I clicked on it as I do watch quite a lot of interviews. I didn't recognise her and I didn't know what she'd be talking about and you can't judge a book by its cover, she could have been a model or celebrity or a housewife and she could have been taking about anything from diet to EV's or economics. Who knows? I quickly worked out that she wasn't an attractive blonde lady she was an attractive blonde ladyboy and the first question from the unseen interviewer was, and I'll try and sanitise this... what was you best solo sex act. I howled with laughter and it got better... the reply involved a torch she'd bought off Amazon  :$ I howled again. I did howl but I did decided I'd seen enough so I watched "Just for laughs" (a sort of candid camera show) instead. Takes all sorts.

Whatever throws his switches, off to look at Amazon before SWMBO gets home

I'm sure you wont be using the torch in the same way.

I sort of wish I'd watched the rest now but Mrs WW almost certainly has access to my youtube so I thought I'd best not in case it got her agitated.

Gifted tickets for Oasis, fair play, considering they’ve been apart for 16 years they ripped the place up.

Oh yes always, first trips down south to Taunton though for a Tracker/immobiliser/alarm!

WCMUT was me remembering to give the Box bush its second application of XenTari caterpillar treatment and the weather being close to perfect for the task!

Might have to give it a severe trim next May.

Ment to post this last week

Coming home from Somerset, stopped off at Teals farm shop for breakfast (Highly recommended). Saw this in the car park and it just had to be done. :D
The Daimler Dart!

A bloke I did some work for in the 1960s, had one of those. Every time he drove me around London in it, I found myself thinking about the strength of fibre glass versus the strength of metal, in a collision... :wideyed:

IIRC the Reliant Robin would provide a practical demonstration of what happens when it goes wrong.

How right you are.

My wife drove Reliant three wheelers for several years, on account of her full motorcycle licence covered driving them. Her first specimen, a Regal, gave excellent service, despite being purchased for the proverbial song. After a few years of reliable use, she thought she'd "upgrade" to a Robin, found one for a very good price and sold the Regal to a local garage.

The garage owner's son and another lad showed up with their tow truck and realised there was nowhere on a Regal to attach the truck's hook. Nothing daunted, the two lads attached the two vehicles with what was basically a length of string. Then they set off. We realised that they might have misjudged the situation, when we saw that both lads were in the truck cab.

From reports, it seems that they had somehow covered most of the half mile to the garage when they misjudged a bend. The truck went left but the unmanned Regal continued straight on, narrowly missed an oncoming car and collided with a lamp post. It seems that people were still finding bits of green painted glass fibre and such a fortnight later.

I made a point of photographing the garage's check, just in case we needed to prove it wasn't our problem. In any case, a local copper, who we were very friendly with, came round to reassure us that it wasn't considered to be anything to do with us.

A couple of weeks ago I booked flights for a trip to Thailand in October and booked airport parking at Manchester Airport...... When it came to the parking it was showing no availability at the one I normally use, which is Jetparks Ringway, so I decided to book the only other Jetpark option that was available.........

Fast forward to today and I get an email from booking website I used which had a discount code for new bookings...... Did a new search for my dates and my favoured option was now showing availability, plus it was coming in at a cheaper price that what I'd paid..... Thanks to their T & C's, I can cancel my booking up until 72 hours before flying and get a refund minus their booking fee. Original booking cancelled and a new booking made.... (y)

Despite losing the original booking fee I've still saved money by changing my booking!!!
