Perhaps someone can helpfully advise that if he had taken the precaution of ramp to allow wildlife to escape he would not now be faced with the dilemma

that you helped him out.Re: path lab ~ not 30 years but about 8 years in the 70's I rotated every department except Biochemistry. Histopathology was especially fascinating though my first ever visit to the morgue to collect some samples was a bit of hesitation as I had never seen anyone on the slab before! Even as technicians we were a mixed bag of folk, a female colleague who was more than happy to do the 'frozen sections', I was told left the room when a foot arrived for examination.
I enjoyed my time most in Haemotology & Blood transfusion....those were the days ~ the mantra was very much 'you don't have to be mad to work here but helps'

We have a gentle slope up out of our pond at one end for that very reason..The depth of water there goes to just a few millimetres and we also have a surrounding shelf under water to about 15cms which we put plant baskets on so another way out.
Across the road from us is a 15m wide grass verge, 30-40m trees and a brook and,sadly, every few weeks or so I have to scrape a dead squirrel up off the road. They live in the trees and cross the road to raid bird feeders in back gardens and whatever else they look for to eat. We have a bit of traffic as people go to work and return home but it's very quiet after that. Not a main road,though. I once had to put a dead cat in a bin liner at 8.00am . I went to a nearby close to tell the owners. We often know where local cats live. I didn't take the cat as it would have been very upsetting so the chap came back to our house with me to collect it.

I must lack empathy but I don't understand the reaction.
The animal is, unfortunatrly, dead so isn't going to struggle or bite. It clearly died fairly recently so isn't going to be smelly or fall apart when handled, so what is the problem?
Though, good on DW for helping out and agree with BB some form of escape slope would be a good idea.

Some people are just squeamish. Why should some people..sorry to be sexist ,but especially women..be afraid of a mouse ? Some people have an irrational fear of spiders ..arachnophobia .Some have aversion to blood and aren't able to deal with the bodies of dead people. The man in question is obviously averse to handling anything that's dead. It's not really about empathy but a state of mind.

Someone made me laugh today but I had to hold it in... We were talking about football and we were both goalkeepers. He said he was short for a goalkeeper at 5ft10". This is what ticked me as I'm 5ft8" and taller than him. The only way he's 5ft10" is stood on a box. Still, if being 5ft10 makes him happy

Today I became a church warden. I was volunteered and didn't feel I could say no. I feel honoured to be asked and to be given a chance to help. My first duty will be do carry out their risk assessments. I hope they don't regret this

I just felt that I couldn't say no. I can't see myself getting involved in giving readings and thankfully there doesn't seem to be a shortage of volunteers for that so at the moment I'm a bit puzzled why they wanted me. The H&S stuff does need to be done but I could have done that without the title. Having just finished my last little project along that line I have no other work in so I have the time.
When I left work the plan was to volunteer for something but that didn't work out and I became a carer so this is my first non family helping post and at moment I'm happy to help.

It should have been explained that wardens are responsible for the fabric of the church, and they saw you had ability in that area. Wardens can also function in a spiritual leadership role, but where there's sufficient clergy that's not usually required.

They didn't know my work history before volunteering me. When they asked me I did say that I'm a junior member of the church and others may feel a bit put out but they kept asking and gave me a book about it and that's when I spotted the H&S requirements and asked about what they have, which is a bit limited. Until then it hadn't really entered my mind. I think they asked me because I take some of the less able here there and everywhere and help with the lifting and carrying and hedge cutting and I'm on the making the tea and coffee and washing up rota... and just maybe they couldn't see anyone else likely to say Yes.
I'll give it a go and as long as it doesn't take up too much time I should be ok and it fits in with my Christianity and ticks the volunteer for something box.

I have NHS hearing aids, as I have been hard of hearing for over 20 years, and refuse to pay the cost of private ones, as I would have shelled out around 25k by now for all the sets I have needed over the years. (Life expectancy of a hearing aid is 5/6 years.) I had to have my current ones repaired in December, but when the Audiologist tried to connect them to the computer to check them the computer said no! So I got another pair of used ones, so all my gadgets still worked with them, to tide me over as I was overdue another hearing assessment, (7 years since the last one), and they said it would be sometime in September.
Yesterday the Audiology Department rang me up and asked if I'd be able to come in on Sat or Sun for my hearing test and new aid fitting. I asked what time on Sat and they gave me a choice of morning or afternoon, so I went with afternoon. I was amazed as they never worked on weekends before! I check the NHS app and it was confirmed on that, but today the app said I had a message from Audiology, when I checked it was a copy of the letter for the appointment which they are sending out in the post. I will be lucky to get the letter before the appointment date! What an absolute waste of money to send a letter when they asked if I would like to attend and it was all agreed on the phone.
The only down side is that they are changing the make of aids, so I will need to by a new TV streamer to work with these ones, but not too fussed as the one I've got at the the moment is old tech, so it will be a vast improvement.

3 years ago I had to have a CT Angiogram done and my appointment for the scan was on a Sunday morning!!!!

I had CT scan on a Sunday afternoon at 4.00pm about eight months ago as part of an elimination process.All ended ok..but yes, its the norm now to help reduce backlogs.

WCMUT is being properly clean and not covered in either sunscreen or insect repellent! Of course, foregoing either of the "contaminants" means greater consequences than being a little sticky/oily/smelly so they're a necessary evil.

I got up today intending to go to the supermarket and clear the weeds on the block paving and maybe think about washing cars too as they're covered in dust or sand or something that reguarly falls here. It was sunny when I was having breakfast and also when I went outside to pick todays ripe strawberries and raspberries (got a good harvest today) but it then clouded over and the wind started (er... weather wind, not flatulence) so I had a rethink. I could have been disappointed that the weather had changed but I'm not desperate for anything from the supermarket so I can wait until I have to go out on Saturday or Sunday, there's no point washing cars if it looks like rain and as I don't want weeds blowing all over the weeding can wait to. I don't have to do anything today. I gave up the 9-5 15 years ago but sometimes I forget that often my time is my own. A warm feeling came over me

It's quite an arduous job getting those pesky weeds up from between the bricks.I used to do it with a thin-edged sharp knife. Unless you kneel down it's back-breaking work. I now just spray them with weed-killer and they wither, die and disintegrate. By the way...re the dust on your car. Maybe you know but we get Saharan sand/dust here in the UK quite regularly carried on the southerlies/Jet Stream and if there's no rain it will travel on out over the North Sea but if it rains where you are then the dust will be washed out of the atmosphere down onto your area. The upside is that there will often be spectacular sunrises/ sunsets ...
Last November and February we experienced this in Tenerife where the westerly wind, which is quite strong, is called Calima. It usually comes in July,August and September..sandstorm season in the Sahara but can occur at any time. That sand/dust from Morocco and the north of Western Sahara, east of Tenerife,...620 miles away... of course, traps the heat, too so it's also very warm. The waiters told us when it was due and the ground staff took down all the pool-side sun-brollies and cleared the sun-loungers. Of course, I loved it re the sunrise/sunsets.. Everyone else was cursing..lol. The winds, which can reach 80mph, carry that sand/dust, not only up into Europe on southerlies but as far as the Caribbean, North and South America on westerlies . The scale of nature is amazing. It can last a few hours or as long as a week. Most times it's a few days. The Cape Verdi Islands are hit quite badly,too. They are 970 miles south of Tenerife and off the coast of Mauritius/Senegal. Another little tit-bit..lol. The clusters of thunderstorms that are generated off the coast of Senegal..transitioning from continental to maritime environmental conditions, can evolve to rotate as one, anti-clockwise, and then, sometimes, start a journey across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and, mainly Florida but sometimes into the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America now...lol) as a hurricane. Not many people know that...

I usually use a knife for the block paving weeds but in the past few weeks I've started to use a strimmer as it's much quicker and achieves the same end. The weed killer seems to have just no effect at all. What do you use? On the dust/sand. It's not the usual slightly red stuff. This new stuff is almost plastic like to the touch and just coats everything. I don't remember seeing this before.
Both jobs can wait until another day.

We have some Mares Tail (amongst others) and the only treatment that I found works on that is the highest strength 'Resolva'
Unlike most weeds, you need to injury the Mares Tail. This i usually do with my hands just crushing it's stems slightly NB avoid breaking bits off as they will find a niche to grow.
I need to go round again and IIRC they show die back after about 4 weeks!

Re Weed killer.. Roundup. It's pretty nasty stuff, though. Some say use agricultural vinegar...seems you can get 30% in some places I was told that vinegar/salt with a few drops of washing up liquid is good. Sounds more friendly to the environment.
I've just Goggled that agricultural vinegar and here's what I read.
'Gently mix together 2 cups of distilled vinegar and 1 tablespoon of dish soap. Put this in a spray bottle and spray the weeds on a sunny day, when it isn't likely to be washed away by rain. Make sure to thoroughly cover all the leaves of the weeds when you do this. If necessary, repeat this again after a few days'
I wonder what the plasticy stuff on the car is, then ? I assume it doesn't damage the paintwork or you'd have mentioned that.

I'll look into weed killers.
I haven't tried to wash the car since this latest fall of sand (?) but we have had some rain and some of the plastic feel has gone so I hope the two cars covered will be ok.
