WCMUT....what cheered me up today

An inch makes a huge difference in a plank, so I'm told. Your legs and spine should be in a straight line with no kink of the bum upwards.

Google says.
  • Experts suggest holding a plank for around 30 seconds to a minute, with some recommending aiming for 1-2 minutes.

  • Focus on maintaining good form throughout the plank, rather than holding it for an extended period.

  • If you can hold a plank for over 6 minutes, you are in an excellent category
Over two minutes was doable at my first attempt but I doubt I'll be able to do 6 if only for boredom :D I might give it a go. I think the press ups are what helped as it's the same body shape with just the length of the arms varying the angle. Years ago press ups also helped with bench pressing which I'd never done before. Sit ups must help with planking too. I normally do 25 press ups and 50 sit ups as part of my little exercise routine. If I'm feeling good once I finish the routine I do it again.

This. At the gym she tells me to lower my bum. It’s only and inch or 2 but makes all the difference

Even I can hold a high bum plank for 2 minutes! Get the posture correct and I'm down to 15 seconds or so.

I don't really see plank as an attractive exercise but that could be because I'd never heard of it. Mrs WW does a lot of time on an exercise bike plus she does Yoga and zumba with weights on her arms but so far she hasn't been able to do any meaningful press ups or sit ups. She managed less than 30 seconds at planking. I think sit ups and press ups are very likely an advantage, sit ups especially. I've just finished my daily routine and although I didn't try and go further I wasn't out of steam after my usual 25 press ups or the 50 sit ups but I don't know how much further I could have gone. Part of the problem for me is that I have a total in mind and as I approach it my mind says "That's enough" and my body hears but if I set a slightly higher total from the off I think I have a good chance of achieving it. In the past I used to try and double the numbers but I think I'm too old for that now. I think 30 press ups would be easily achievable and maybe a few more if I push myself but I can't see myself doubling to 50 now :D Sit ups are a bit easier for me and I think that if I aimed higher I could probably do 70 or there abouts but not 100. Not now.

You can tell that's an old film - the timber's close to straight!

The black, vile, semi rigid, inflexible flexible hose on our pressure washer finally broke today. Not only did it have a mind of its own but it hated me with a passion and tried many times to kill me.
I've bought a bright orange replacement on Amazon today, at least if this one tries to kill me I'll see it on the way down!

Could have posted this in WAMT but here gets the edge.

I've already mentioned about the problem I had with the dental practice I used to be with...I left..so did my wife, in sympathy. As with everyone else, there was pressure to have six-monthly check-ups, not necessary 12-18 months is fine, regular visits to the hygienist, too and X-rays. I turned down the suggestion of a crown at £640 for a filling at £140.. Some of my fillings have lasted so many years I can't recall how long. As I walked out after the filling I was told that .."When it comes out you'll have to have an extraction (about £230) and said in such a way she was clearly annoyed I hadn't gone for the crown, People have problems with them anyway. No need to go into further detail but another incident happened in relation to the same tooth not so long ago and I was told that, "as there's nothing there when the filling comes out the tooth will have to be extracted." I'd love to know what was on my notes . Why did a different dentist say that ?

Anyway, today, I saw the new dentist because there wasn't much left of the filling which I thought odd as it was only done 18 months to two years ago. I was given three options on my intial visit. A crown but not really enough tooth left to do a proper job. Take the tooth out ..he didn't really want to do that or..and the one he recommended..put in a shallow filling . That's what I had done today and although it's a shallow filling it feels level with the other teeth and is great. Cost ? £92. I now feel vindicated about the reason I left the other practice.

Simple good customer service. Bought a Brababtia wall mounted washing line 2.5 years ago. It buckled (could in theory been my heavy handedness, I honestly dont know). Emailed them as had a 5 year warranty. Simply sent my address and pics as requested and 2 days later a new one turned up. Not arguments or dramas.

OH said a week or two ago she regretted selling her Canon EF 24-105f4L (mk.1) when she bought her R6. She still has the EF 24-70/2.8 Mk 2 but a) misses the versatility of the 24-105 and b) lacked the wider option for the new camera...

Didn't want to pay the full price for a new RF24-105/4 so been looking around using usedlens.co.uk. Prices of these used is highly variable and seem to have shot up in the last few days such that good examples are more expensive than a new price from Panamoz. Then this morning, Cambrian had one at a more reasonable price.

Saved OH £200+, did business with our favourite supplier. Result!

Mrs WW likes to take control of the sat nav and I'm ok with that as it's one less thing to do. Right?

Today the sat nav told me to turn right down what looked to be a suspiciously narrow road. "This doesn't look right. I asked "Did you enter the right post code?" and the reply was "Yes." So I pressed on down a very narrow track with farms and the odd private house and high greenery on either side until I was convinced we'd gone wrong. Mrs WW then googled the place we wanted again and announced that the postcode had indeed been wrong. So, correct one entered we set off again but the distance and the estimated time seemed way off so I asked about the post code again and again she said it was the right one. I said "Show me were you got it from" and she showed me.

What she'd done was google our intended destination and look for a post code. When she didn't see one she scrolled down until she saw one. The thing is, scrolling down on google doesn't necessarily show you the same place and might just show you different ones in other places :D She said "Sorry" :D

After what must be a year of no use, I finally got the camera out this morning for an Easter Egg hunt. Was a touch worried, but it seems to be like riding a bike! lol

That's cheered me up today. :)

Talking about riding a bike, went out on mine this morning for first time in 18 months, really enjoyed it though not sure if lungs and legs agree :)

Still on the bike theme, went out with Mrs Nod on her first "big bike" ride since passing her test on Tuesday. Lovely ride over the Moor with a good roast for lunch at a (relatively freshly) reopened Plume of Feathers in Princetown. Dropped down through Newton Abbott to see some friends (who were out - will try again next week) then home along the coast from Teignmouth.

Now, that is a blast from the past... .

I think it was in the very early 70's I was in a school party trip on Dartmoor, pony trekking and we stopped there a drink(lunch?) It was a fascinating pub and the room we were in had the ceiling (and walls?) signed by visitors ~ permitted graffiti ~ and we were told that every few years it gets painted over and starts again.

Also, the looks we got from locals including the Prison Officers taking their break in there.

We used to run a biker party there every February. Chuffing chilly, even in the bonk house (no typo!!!) This was about 35 years ago so we were a bit worried that things may have changed a bit... Needn't have worried - as we were leaving, a group of 15 to 20 bikes turned up after an Easter Egg run to a local Hospice. Will be revisiting.

Bought some tape from the range shop a month or two ago, thought it was a bargain at just £1, used it today and just doesn't look quite right :) , at least I know why it was cheap thoughIMG_0266.jpg

Spanish tape?

I printed a picture taken with my old Panasonic GX80 and 14mm f2.5, it's a slight crop as I wanted it to fill an A4 and I'm very very happy with it :D I do like it when I end up with a printed picture that I'm happy with in my hand.

And another thing. I've just received (yesterday) two rather nice watches from a far eastern website one of which Mrs WW wil be putting away for my birthday. They are both cosmetically perfect and have kept good time since arrival. One needed the strap adjusting and now fits very comfortably and the other was perfect straight out of the box.

I do wonder how many designs of straps are needed but at least these two didn't need figuring out :D

Reckon so, missing the E it will probably get more attention from the courier, not sure if that is a good thing though

Reminds me of the old tale about an envelope marked

PHOTOGRAPHS

DO NOT BEND

under which was written (presumably by the postie) "Yes they do" as it was pushed through the letter box, folded in half...

Posties do that with Royal Mail branded envelopes containing First Day Covers, it says 'Do not bend' on the envelope.

I wonder how many times that has ever happened.

None of the many 10x8 prints I sent out in soft envelopes, protected by nothing more than a rubber stamped warning not to bend, were reported as having arrived in bad condition. On the basis of my own experience, I can't help but think that is just an urban myth, possibly helped along by the purveyors of card backed envelopes.

happened to me at least twice recently, so not an urban myth..FDCs folded. And it's just standard envelope size and our letter box is not the type to trap one's fingers so there is no excuse.

I don't know what a FDC is but if that's the case, I'd complain to your local sorting office.

If you read his earlier post, the initial letters of First Day Covers is capitalised.

...and I'm supposed to notice that?

As the old saying goes: "if you don't say what you mean then you can't mean what you say".(or does that have to be written IYDSWYM-TYCMWYS, to fit in with the craze for initials?)

A mate built me a watch recently - a Seiko automatic movement in a bronze case with a blue dial, with the intention of me wearing it until it looked suitably aged. S*d that!!! I don't have the patience to wait the year or 2 it would take for it to patinate to my taste so a little research came up with either sealing it in a bag with a couple of hard boiled eggs or soaking it in a weak solution of Liver of Sulphur for a much shorter time. Well, the Liver of Sulphur arrived this afternoon (only 2 days late - thanks, post office...) and an hour later, I now have an older looking watch. It should continue to age more naturally and the "all over tan" will rub off on the wear spots as it's on the wrist.

Not sure I have 100% confidence in the "200m waterproof" case but if I forget to change it before a holiday snorkel, it should be OK. TBH, it was cheap enough to buy the movement but I'd rather not drown it!!!

I treated myself to a new hover mower and strimmer yesterday and I used them today. They are lighter than the old ones and it all went easier and quicker. The new hover is definitely lighter and maybe it has better airflow to power the hover as it's so much easier to use, the old one took noticeably more effort. The strimmer made things quicker too and the auto feed worked. The old one was a "demand feed" and it never really worked and I used to have to take the cap off and wind the twine out every few minutes as it kept snapping.

The only down point particularly with the mower is that it's flimsy compared to the old one which was probably made in the UK 30 or more years ago. That old one will probably last forever but it is heavy. The new one looks like it'll last a few years especially the "latch" to open the lid to take the grass box out as it's not a latch at all and relies on deforming the plastic. I'm not a fan of deforming materials and plastic has a habit of becoming brittle over the years and at some point I expect that my finger will go straight through it. The rest of the build looks equally flimsy but if I get a few years out of it I suppose that'll do in todays throw it away and buy a new one world.

The old mower and strimmer are going to a friend who snapped my hand off for them.

WCMUT was several things, not least it being Mrs Nod's birthday.

As part of her gift, we went on the Dart Round Robin trip - boat from Totnes to Dartmouth, ferry from Dartmouth to Kingswear, steam train from Kingswear to Paignton and then a bus back to Totnes. We were very lucky with the weather - gorgeous sunshine pretty much all day with enough breeze on the river to keep us cool. Used most of the layers we took, apart from the waterproof ones we took as insurance!

Not sure what tomorrow will bring apart from 4 wheels and 2 engines!

WCMUT ? ..Just some rain, that's all , but so welcome. I can't recall when we last had some. More to come out of the south in a couple of hours ,looking at the radar, but beyond that for the forseable, nothing.

From yesterday, could go into the what annoyed me today category but had a lovely chill morning watching the dragonflies and managed some nice images
at the end of the afternoon my lens packed up though the focus motor stopped working on my 100L macro, couldn’t even manually focus the manual focus ring didn’t work either

Its been well used, I have had it since they first come out so can’t complain and was happy with the pictures that i had taken by then

luckily the point at which it was stuck was about the right distance so was able to carry on shooting by moving the camera back and forwards to get the subject in focus

I phoned Canon apparently the lens is still able to be serviced, for now I will use my old Sigma 150 macro , I did read somewhere that it isn’t compatible with the R5 but I tried it today with butterflies and it seemed to work ok

WCMUT was getting a good enough bargain on something at the Devon County Show to pay for both our tickets.

WAMNT (What Annoyed Mrs Nod Today) was NOT being asked for proof of her age when she presented her over 60s ticket at the gate!!!

I bet not as annoyed as I was at Beamish last year. We turned up at the entrance and asked for one adult and one over 60's , the attendant asked me for proof of age, obviously I am a haggard looking 58 year old with a young looking 60 year old wife...

I'm a well worn 61 (and 5/6ths!) with a much younger looking better half! She did have her driving license with her in the hope they'd ask for proof!!!

Talking of age, it's a pleasure to call DFDS and get a 20% discount on my ferry crossings for being over 60. :)
