WCMUT....what cheered me up today

My Broadband Contract :)

I have been with PlusNet for over 20 years and every time the contract comes up for renewal I call and negotiate the next one.

The new one is costing me less than the old, actually approx the figure of the old one but when it started 2 years ago. So, bearing in mind the CPI & 3.8% increase each year I am pleased.

The Customer Services Agent I spoke to was very much doing a good job and rewarding out loyalty :D

So, when May 2026 rolls round.....time to start the negotiation again in late April!

PS this package is the BB (FTTC), line rental and free UK & Mobile calls (from the landline) @in the mid £20's per month.

PPS our account number is <4000 and they are now in the 5,000,000 's

3...

Today I fancied a take away. For some reason they were closing early and as I was there just as they were closing up I think they gave me everything and for only £7 which was waaaay under price. There was too much to eat so I'll be having left overs tomorrow :D

This reminds me of something from years ago... At one place I worked at we often had fish and chips and they always sent me as the lady on the counter fancied me and always gave me lots of extra food :D Happy Days :D

Car sailed through another MOT with no advisories. Happy days. :)

Well, this one cheered me up for sure.

I bought a network product (discussed in another thread) from Amazon and after installing & configuring it I was putting the box away and noticed that the serial number sticker on the box did not match the serial number on the unit! The box was sealed with those clear round stickers and there was no sign of any suggestion that it had been opened & re-boxed.

I 'chatted' with Amazon and they could not explain why such would happen other than it must have come from the factory that way!

In the chat the CSC offered to refund me 20% without any impact on rights to return it should that be needed, is appropriate....as I was pondering that and about to add my thoughts to his offer.....he replied again, saying to me that as a long term loyal Amazon customer he was making an exception and giving me a "full refund" ~ completely unexpected, as I was going to email the manufacturer as well to get their insight on the matter.

So, I accepted his offer.....it would have rude not to have done so :D

It was not a cheap item so well pleased to have been treated with such courtesy and generosity.

PS and I will look forward to learning what the makers have to say about it

A fox visited last night. It was just a fleeting visit but I did manage to grab a couple of screen grabs from the CCTV to send to Mrs WW (she's abroad.) There was nothing for him to eat and no time for me to run down stairs and put something out for him and if I'd have tried he'd have run away. If I knew when he was coming I'd put food out but I wont put anything out just on the off chance as we're plagued with cats and I don't want them to be even more regular visitors.

Sadly the hedgehogs seem to have stopped coming, no idea why.

If you do want to put food out, peanuts are good. Foxes will eat them, well they will eat most things, but they the nuts too small for the fox to grab and carry off so they stay a bit longer. As far as I know cats are aren't interested in peanuts, but you'll need to watch out for rats. At present the foxes have deserted our garden. In the winter and early spring they were in just about every night but our trail camera hasn't seen one for about four nights.

Same thing with our hedgehog. It, sometimes two and once or twice we had three, was a regular visitor last year, but this year it did not arrive back after hibernation.

Dave

We had 4 hedgehogs in the garden a few times last year but the most regular one looked quite old as he was quite large and I think he must have died during the winter. At least we gave him a good last meal. Anyway, early today the hedgehog came back so I rushed out and put so food out for him and he went to it and later wandered off. Later I spotted that there were only a couple of pieces left and when I checked the cctv there were two hedgehogs, afaik for the first time this year :D

I don't know if they're visible here as they tend to blend into the paving at night.

My wife had suspected lung cancer. 2 biopsies showed nothing. However still a 96% chance of cancer.

The super biopsy from the Royal Brompton is NEGATIVE, no cancer detected. It's inflammation. Probably from earlier radiation treatment. They're going to scan it every 3 months to monitor it until it starts to fade. It was a 25 to 1 shot, but it came in.

That's brilliant news Brian, you must both be very relieved.:beer:

Ecstatic Trevor. Our whole vision of the future turned on a sixpence, in a 10 minute meeting. It ends 3 months of worry. So beer/wine, finally get a good nights sleep and book a quick holiday. We feel very lucky.

If ever I get a stroke of good luck (rarely happens), then I always buy a lottery ticket - just in case. It's never worked yet, but you never know . . .

That is excellent news, Brian.

Brilliant news. Calls for a restaurant meal,Brian..:)
A bit more than that John, we're going in a villa in Menorca for a weeks relax.
Main holiday in september is now back on too.
3 months of worry does steange things to your mind. We need a break to re calibrate our life. Sounds dramatic but the ups and downs of ct scans, biopsies and uncertain results, really grinds the whole family down.
We're lucky that, apart from health scares, our life is bloody good.
My heart goes out to those with similar issues but have additional worries like kids, mortgage, work etc. not to mention those who get the 'wrong' result.
The support on here has been terrific and played no small part in retaining my sanity.
Who would have believed a community of people you've never met could do that.
Social media has got some up sides.

Excellent. I've heard many callers to LBC Radio and Five Live telling of high levels of anxiety involved in tests and treatment, much caused by delays and cancellations.

We've been to Menorca and stayed at Binibeca..must be 20 years or more ago. It's a wonderful village/bay where all the houses are white.

We know Menorca very well. We went there a lot when the kids we're little. Cala n porter used to be our preffered base but we've stayed all over the island. Very friendly place. We saw a 4 tops tribute band there once, there were 3 of them and one of the 3 was white , :D very good otherwise.

Anyway. My wcmut. After church a little boy came up to me and gave me a card :D and when I opened it it's a Fathers Day card  :$ I don't have any children, it's just from a family me and Mrs WW has become friends with :D It is the first fathers day card I've ever received, with having no children :D but it was nice of them :D

Missed this ,Brian... Re the retaurant suggestion, with hindsight an underwhelming suggestion.

Well, since I posted I've read that so many tourists want to see this beautiful village of Binibeca Vell that they are threatening to block entry. It's just a narrow single road...it was when we went. It's down to social media. When we were there we watched an elderly lady feed the feral cats, about twenty of them, that came down from the hills every evening at 7.00pm. Infact, we'd taken on a week old kitten.. a black and white 'Felix' lookalike, just before we went to Menorca and the veterinary nurse was looking after it and its three siblings at home until they had grown enough to let go to adopters..They were found under a hedge..mom was killed on the road. So...what name should we give it ? We decided on ..Bini...Lol.

Here's the Guardian article. The photo has been taken from exactly where we stayed in a small self-catering complex. You can see what a beautiful village it is. So much has changed over the years . Places we used to go to and enjoy are now overun, too commercialised. I think Patagonia is ok on that score...Lol. Seriously, though..a fantastic place by all accounts, if you like the outdoor, scenery and wildlife.

Booked a holiday for later in the year and one of the kids wanted to book the same week! Not everyone's cup of tea, holidaying with the grown up kids but nice that they still wanted to do it. As it happens, they can't get the time off in their "holiday year calendar" at work (another modern work ethic it seems)!

We went away a few years back, we had grandma and all the way down to great grandchildren, wonderful time, 26 of us ;)

On my 40th Birthday, Wifey took me to Cyprus, at dinner on the first evening we were met by my lad & his partner, my sister & husband, and a couple of close friends. It was cracking holiday, doing our own thing but getting together over breakfast & dinner....

We were booked to go to Porta ventura with our 2 lads and their partners. Then the Pfizer jab tried its best to kill me, and in a year of tests the docs wouldnt ok me to fly, so the lads and partners went on their own.
We're re booking a joint holiday for next year. Really looking forward to it.

My car insurance company wanted almost £1300.00 for my renewal - a £600.00 increase over last year.

Before arguing with them I checked with confused.com and got a quote from Tesco Bank for only £506.00.
Guess which one I opted for?

An added bonus - they doubled the car's value compared with the last company (Dial Direct) too.

I've been looking for someone to come and valet three cars for me, an MX5, a Hyundai Getz and an Evoque. The first bloke failed to turn up so I rang him again and he failed to turn up again, both times without having the decency to call and say he wasn't coming. The next one I called didn't return my call and the next didn't want to work outside today.

The fourth company turned up when they said they would and are a father and son team. They seem to be very thorough and spent about two hours on the Getz and are now busy on the Evoque. The prices are reasonable too :D

As I may have said before a company/sole trader turning up on time and doing a good job for the agreed price shouldn't surprise us but these days I think too often it does.

PS.
He's just asked if I'd sell him one of my cars :D Sadly it's not for sale.
