WCMUT....what cheered me up today

WCMUT? Spare by 'Arry 'Ewitt being knocked down to 1/2 price in some shops.
It is fairly commonplace to launch a book with an offer that actually becomes the norm.

PS I heard that on release day it sold 400,000 of which it was commented 50,000 were the hardback version (other versions being eBook and Audio Book). So not a shabby first days UK sales and likely way more in the other markets especially the USA

Walking back from the local high street this morning a very (or even very very) attractive and age appropriate lady said a cheery "Good Morning" to me which caught me a little by surprise as although I'll gladly say good morning and chat to anyone at that time of the morning people are usually head down and hurrying and in no mood to talk.

Anyway. CMU :D

My MX5 has been in my usual garage for repair about half a dozen times and never fixed so I took it somewhere else and one day and £460 later and it's like a new car :D I gave them some Sake from Japan I've had in the fridge for a very long time (may be 12/15 years) as a thank you. Thankfully it's Saturday tomorrow so they'll have time to recover :D

Not a big drinker these days but I'm having a pint this evening - first one since we got back from holiday in mid September. Not needing to worry about the possibility of a panic dash to MiL means I can relax!

Can you keep him?

Also... Pictures! :D
That's great. It is always heartwarming when a dog(or any animal) that has been through a bad time responds to some decent care. As Alan said - photos please.

Dave

As promised pictures of the lovely boy.
He is going to a new home next month, I will miss him :(

Just an exchange in a local shop.

I was looking for some garlic sauce and I couldn't find it with the usual sauces so I asked a nearby member of staff who was stacking shelves...

"We don't stock it. Sorry."

I didn't have time to be disappointed as a passing customer pointed to it on a nearby shelf :D

I suppose the member of staff either made an honest mistake or "We don't stock it. Sorry." is their stock reply :D

Anyway. The incident did make me smile and I'll have garlic sauce on my chips later :D

WCMUT?
Receiving my 1st Christmas card of the year (y)

Although it was date stamped 12/12/22 :D

We got our last one last week. About 1/3 or maybe more of ours arrived in the new year but at least they turned a rather poor haul into what we expected :D

Some people resorted to ecards... I don't tend to like them myself but I suppose that's the way things are going.

The not so helpful 'help' in the store...................perhaps you should have given him/her a cheery wave with "not to worry I have found it here....". At least in my experience of the major supermarkets the staff either walk you to the (new?) location or state exactly where to find it!

Yes, I've had that in the bigger shops but this was just a Tesco Local, or whatever their high street shops are called. I was ignored at the checkout until I uttered the incantation "Just this please" and broke sleeping beauties spell.

My wife & her best friend (in New Zealand) exchange calendars every year, both were sent via 'air mail'

Last year NZ to UK took under 2 weeks, UK to NZ took more than six weeks, there must have been a headwind........

2021 I posted 2 calendars in the same (proper) post office on the same day (admittedly after the last posting date) one to Brisbane and one to Auckland.

Auckland received theirs before Christmas (just over a week!) and Brisbane got theirs at the end of January!

I seem to have woken up in a parallel universe.

Yesterday a tradesman rang me and we agreed he'd come today at about mid day. So, today I got a phone call from him at about 11:30 and I thought "Here we go, he's not coming" but what he said was "I'll be there in 10 minutes if that's ok?" Well of course it was.

And you know what? He turned up.

I must be dreaming.

Restores your faith until the next one/time........just saying;)

Had that twice this week. MiL's boiler developed a fault and a leak, luckily while we were there. Plumber came out within an hour, sorted the fault and patched the leak so the heating could be left on frost protect mode without any risk of flooding the place. Got the parts ordered for overnight delivery and was back the next day to replace the pressure vessel and the part that had caused the error code. Local chap - the boss of a small firm, as it turns out. Usually works in the office on Mondays but was happy to come out for an existing customer.

We have had a few drainage problems at our place over the 3 years we've been here. Had an independent company come and assess what the issue was and it seems that the drain pipe under the road has started to "delaminate" and I should call the local water company (Wessex Water). They came out the next day and agreed it was NOT on my property so their responsibility, however as it only affects me it may be some time before they get around to sorting it.

Low and behold, a week later I got a call from them asking if they could do a survey that day, then on Friday (about 2 weeks later) I get a call asking if they could visit on the 18th (yesterday). They turned up on time, at 08.00 and worked through the rain & sleet and finished it about 1pm. What was funny is that it took 3 vans, one with a trailer, and 5 guys, but only 2 seemed to do any work and the other 3 "supervised"

But, all done, sooner than expected, and they were very pleasant guys.

I spotted this in time to avoid it. That cheered me up today.

Out walking today I saw a young boy and IMO too young to be out on his own trying to climb over a fence and having trouble. I thought I might offer to help but then again there's maybe danger in an adult offering help to an child but I went for it anyway. "Are you having trouble getting over?" I said, "Nupe" he replied with a broad smile. So, I left him struggling.

What made me smile was the "because it's there attitude" was obviously strong with him as not 6ft away there was a gap in the fence you could drive a truck through :D

I did think he was too young to be out on his own though.

Almost forgot to renew my driving licence, which ran out tomorrow, DVLA did a really quick turn around and I got my new one yesterday (y)
What's even better is that I now have a UK driving licence not one with a euro flag on it :)

A right good session in the kitchen today. A huuuge pot of spicy sausage and lentil soup, cooling before portioning up and freezing. Then liver and onions for tea. Mmmm.

At my age, 3/5 is a miracle! Beer, curry, bed... :whistling:

Well the last few days really, the start of the road cycling season with The Tour Down Under, and the UCI World Championships being held in Glasgow this year and just to top it of Eurosport have joined Discovery + and as part of my Sky package I get Discovery + as a freebie so save the £40 annual subscription.
